Thought I would start this thread up now that we've got a subforum!

Apparently he's fully mastered the mystical trick of "lighting own hand on fire." *ahem*

I've not seen Matt Ryan onscreen in any shape or form. The only thing I can judge him on would be his mocap performance as Edward Kenway in Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag. Yeah it's a videogame, but motion capture has come a long way that an actor's performance does come through even in virtual form. And I thought he was great as the pirate turned assassin Edward. The trailer has me intrigued, so here's hoping he gives a great performance as everyone's favorite cynical chain smoking modern day mage.

I've seen Matt Ryan in things like Doctor Who spin off Torchwood and the movie Layer Cake but I had no idea who he was at the time.

It's been so long since I've seen Layer Cake. I don't remember him at all there.

However, he looks great here. I loved what I saw in the trailer.

When I saw my first thought was "what does the Falcon's QB have to do with this show" :hehe:

Ryan was hands down the best thing about the pilot. I can see why they canned the Liv character; neither the character or the actress really holds her own against Ryan's Constantine. I suppose that was kind of the idea, since she's intended to be "us" in a sense (ordinary person being introduced to an extraordinary world) but when you have a performance as engaging as Ryan's, a less interesting character runs the risk of dragging the story down. I saw some idiot reviewer complain that Ryan was miscast; yeah, people are entitled to their opinions and all that, but seriously, go **** yourself.

Thr poor diluted fool.

Not a day goes by without me wondering how things would've been had Keaustine gotten Roger Corman'd instead of being released.

LOL... I have to admit, I kinda like Keanstantine if I just try really hard to forget the comic it's based on.

Whenever I read a comic with Constantine now I read all his lines in Matt Ryan's voice. He really was born to play this role!

Goddamnit, before seeing the first episode I didn't realize he was the actor who voiced Edward Kenway in AC4: Black Flag. The way he talks and even the way he walks is soooooo similar to how his character in AC did. Now I can't unhear or unsee Edward and it's weird! :o

I take it the actor doesn't smoke? Smoking is such a key aspect of Constantine and actual plays a role in one of the most pivotal moments in Constantine's graphic novels.

Oh, he does. He was kicked out of four non-smoking hotels during Comic-Con

So why doesn't he smoke on the show? Censorship?

Ask the FCC. They're the ones who'll ok sex (up to TV-14 only), booze, and violence (also TV-14) but not smoking on Primetime (it's ok for cable networks though)

How there is a dropped line of dialogue to explain he smokes like a chimney. Show don't tell is always better but I'll take it.

Best role I've seen Matt Ryan in was Criminal Minds:Suspect Behavior as the Irish Sniper.

anyone else want Matt Ryan to play Constantine in the Justice League Dark movie?

actually, i am kind of hoping that the show Constantine is part of the DC film universe. it might have to do with Goyer's involvement, but i can really see this show and what we saw in Man of Steel fitting into the same universe. perhaps the show itself can be a prequel to the events in Man of Steel.

I totally like this show, though admittingly, I liked the first few episodes much more than the last few :( I'm ashamed.
