I also think the Mary Jane of the movies is a bit like Elizabeth Swann from the PotC movies, somewhat self-centered and potentially annoying to viewers (at least at times), so hard to understand why the protagonist likes her so much (aside from physical attraction), and yet still somewhat appealing and best in the third film.
