I watched this the other night,it had been years since i'd seen it and i absolutely loved it,the humorous digs at the over the top 80's superman action heroes that made Arnie and Sly famous were well executed and Mctiernann kept the whole thing rollicking along at a great pace with some superbly crafted action sequences and getting a good performance out of Arnie who is ably matched by the sneering brilliance of Charles Dance as Benedict, the assassin with the cool glass eye collection:woot:

The movie within a movie angle was neatly applied and when Arnies Jack Slater hits the real world for the finale Mctiernann's sure hand makes sure the ball isn't dropped...I know the movie bombed but i couldn't help feeling when i watched it that it was simply a few years to soon to really hit big,we hadn't really came out of that 80's macho muscle man phase for the audience to appreciate the joke

I loved this movie, one of my favorite ones!

I remember first time, when I watched it (at the age of 8), still can't forget what I felt.

Great movie

this movie sucks. I can't really understand the story if there is one and the kid is annoying.

Apparently I can watch this instantly off Netflix, if I wake up early tommorrow that's what I'll do.

i also like this movie.

i like how sly is on the poster of terminator 2 hehehhehe. if you get it you get it.

It’s a good movie but not everybody can really understand it!
Sometimes a simple plot is better for the simple mind.

the kid may be annoying (no more so than Jake Lloyd in TPM though), but dude, what's to understand? the story's pretty straightforward.

I still love this movie to this day.

I love the scene where you see cameos walking out of the police station (t-1000, sharon stone), it would of been awesome to see John McClane strut out of there...it would of made sense since McTiernan directed and it was a Fox film.

It's a good fun film.

wtf is the story then?

all I know is that I saw a lot of bad acting and some annoying kid. Ahnuld is the only saving grace of this lame duck.

Exactly.

Last Action Hero is one long in-joke. Virtually every scene in the movie says, "This is so ironic and post-modern, isn't it clever?" No, it's obvious and annoying.

You're essentially watching McTiernan, Arnie and the cast and crew having a huge laugh amongst themselves. And the joke is on the viewer who pays to see it.

see thats what i dont get. wesyeed likes ghost rider right? i thought that he would like this movie because he likes that kind of movies.
i am very confused.

I thought Austin O'Brien was one of the better kid actors ive seen in these types of movies,i also thought the humour worked in much the way the Scream films gagged on Horror

Yeah, but here's the thing; the ironic humour in Scream is secondary. The movie is a genuinely good horror movie first and foremost. That the characters understand horror movies just adds to it.

Whereas in Last Action Hero, the entire movie is a huge joke.

I see what you mean to an extent although a lot of Scream feels like wink wink nudge nudge and tongue in cheek to me,i guess i just enjoyed the joke and the way it was told and the pay off at the end.

lol. well I saw this flick years ago and to this day I don't know what to think of it. It's a jack of all trades and master of none, in my mind.

I've always liked LAH. The only Zak Penn movie I like. (Don't count X2.)

I love this movie. My favourite part is when Arnold is carrying the body from the funeral and says "This man needs a doctor!" A doctor is actually there so Arnold says, "Look.........elephant!" then punches him in the face! lol

I love this movie as well. It is sad that it bombed because it is one of my favorite Arnold movies to bad not to many appreciate it. I love all the digs at 80's action films as well, the villian is good to. Changing his glass eye for each occasion.

That scene is great.

Some of my favorite scenes are when he shoots the guy hiding in his closest. Danny asks "how did you know there was someone in there?" Jack says " theres always someone in there." I also love the scenes with with his captain and Danny is telling the story about when The Captain's wife left him.

Dekker: And you promised me you wouldn't tell!
Jack Slater: I didn't.
Dekker: Well, then how did he know?
Danny Madigan: "Jack Slater I".
Dekker: What's winning got to do with this?
Danny Madigan: No. The very first "Jack Slater".
Dekker: [to Jack] You told your dad?
Jack Slater: I didn't tell anybody! I don't even know this kid!
Dekker: Well, he sure seems to know a lot about us.

Such a great movie!

I read some comments on IMDB.com and isn't that the point of the movie to be a spoof in in its execution?

I can remember watching this as a kid, and that it's really long...

love this movie! Arnold daughter was hot in that movie!

I love this movie. I still laugh at the look on ahnuld's face when he falls off the side of a building.
