Synopsis

n one of the most pristine landscapes in the world, a team working to exploit oil resources of Alaska is tormented by an unseen evil. After one crewmember is found dead, a disorientation slowly claims the sanity of the other members of the team as each of them succumbs to an unknown fear. This creeping dread bursts open when a malevolent wind brings down a plane that approaches the station. Explosions and carnage wreak havoc on the team and all functions fail in the camp, forcing two of the members out into the cold on a desperate bid for survival. As these two journey to find help, they find themselves utterly alone in a world that is unraveling- either they are being stalked by an invisible herd of menacing phantoms, or they are going mad.

This chilling supernatural drama is the latest offering from Larry Fessenden, an acclaimed director of intimate horror spectacles, whose trilogy of Horror (NO TELLING, HABIT, and WENDIGO) tackles themes of contemporary life environmentalism, addiction, class conflict, aggression, fear and madness.

Not sure if this is the same trailer.

Looks like it's gonna be all about atmosphere and building tension rather than gore thankfully, had a "The Thing" vibe, looks great:up:

The Thing is one of my favorite movies on account of that vibe... then just goring it up at the right parts.

it's so weird that i got a "the thing" vibe from this too.

wonder if we'll see any dog tounge flowers of death in this one.

Looks interesting (especially in a genre that's suffering from so many crappy remakes and sequels)

Here's a mini-review from ComingSoon:

Alaska proves to be a fertile ground for Larry Fessenden's brand of terror, as he uses the vast open spaces to isolate the characters in a way not unlike John Carpenter's "The Thing," combining gruesome deaths and chills with a strong message about global warming and how the earth is fighting back against man's desire to plum its resources. On the one hand, the film is a dialogue-heavy character drama driven by strong performances from Ron Perlman as the oil foreman, James le Gros as an environmentalist studying the changes facing the Arctic and Connie Britton caught in between, causing the conflict between the men to escalate. It's interesting to see this type of love triangle within a horror setting, though at times, it allows for a bit too much melodrama. On the other hand, it often turns into an extremely creepy agoraphobic horror film that keeps you on edge, since you're never quite sure what is going on. Certain aspects of the film prove to be a logical extension from Fessenden's last movie "Wendigo" but it's a far slicker and better-looking film due to an obviously bigger budget than his previous three films. The sweeping crane shots across the Alaskan plateau is somewhat surprising in that sense, but so is a number of impressive set pieces. It ends on a suitably daunting, almost apocalyptic, note that's likely to have an impact on anyone who still thinks global warming isn't a problem that needs to be addressed. Clearly, "The Last Winter" is Fessenden's best film and a huge turning point for him as a filmmaker, promising even stronger work to come. Rating: 8/10

Very promising review, it's out on DVD here already.
