Let me start this by saying I watch and enjoy all of the comics shows...DC & Marvel. But, I happened to be watching Luke Cage and then Arrow back to back. Just seems like the Netflix show have a more sense of realism to them. Not talking about the writing or even the characters. Just when watching the show the Netflix ones seem more real to me. Maybe, it has to do with the camera equipment, more actual location shots or it could just be budget things. I notice it also when say watching Daredevil and then watching Agents of Shield. AOS seems more like its in the Flarrowverse than the Marvel Netflix/Cinema-verse.

The Arrowverse shows have a lot more episodes to film and a lot more expensive costumes/sets/effects. The Netflix shows are light on effects and costumes and they film all 13 episodes back to back.

A lot of it comes down from the network too - netflix probably has a lot more flexibilty in terms of the tone that the show is allowed to maintain, where as any show on the CW will have a very similar tone to one another.

We can only work with what we are given as fans, but its not to say there isn't a possibility DC gets some show on the netflix and has a very similar feel to the Marvel counter-parts, and vice versa if more shows from Marvel start coming on regular TV they will all have a similar feel based on the network they are on.

A good example was constantine did not feel like it was in the same universe as Arrow/Flash at all, but was a DC show, but definitely had a feeling of NBC attached too it.

You posed the question and answered yourself in one single post. Congrats!

Possibly true...But Arrow/Flash do shoot on location a lot. Plus, could it be as simple as better cameras because of budget?

The Netflix shows will definitely have more money to burn per episode than the CW shows. Also, besides spreading money out further over twice as many episodes, remember there's now four concurrent DC shows yearly, with high revolving cast and crew, whereas the Marvel Netflix shows are going at a slower rate (despite Iron Fist being rushed).

This isn't exactly a fair comparison. CW is basically a lowish budget cable channel vs something more along the lines of an HBO/Showtime type production. Netflix has far more money to throw around at their shows, not to mention all the critical talent they're pulling in.

It's basically like comparing Game of Thrones on HBO to Reign on the CW.

Bingo.

We are talking 10-13 episode seasons compared to 20+ episode seasons.

Netflix shows have a larger budget because they don't have more episodes to film, therefore less salary to pay to the crews. They can afford the more elaborate sets or using real locations compared to a CW, ABC, NBC, FOX, etc show. Only shows right now that have a true sense of realism to them that aren't on Netflix (that I have actually watched) are the Chicago Fire/PD/Med/Justice series, as well as Law and Order SVU. The Chicago shows all shoot IN Chicago. Law and Order SVU shoots IN NYC.

Arrow, Flash, etc may use "locations" but they film a lot on sets. They save the money on that because of paying Stephen Amell, Grant Gustin, etc to film 23 episodes every season.

One thing that I really think makes a big difference between the CW shows and the Netflix ones isn't something that's connected to budget or whatever but it's more that I feel like the CW producers have a big piece of paper with different scenes/things that need to happen in each episode and the check off each and every point of that while making the individual episode. This makes it so that almost all episodes are very similar.
Netflix on the other hand does not have that feel at all, and it feels more organic to me.

Even so, I find most of the CW shows enjoyable but Netflix is just in another league.

Yep, it's not a fair comparison at all.

And gohei, your criticism ALSO relates to budget, as the CW shows get their budgets from advertisers, which means they are slave to the advertisers and what they think their demos want to see, and the network passes down notes and mandates based on that. Which is why the CW shows that go "off brand" and don't feature those things the network generally wants them to feature (like Nikita, with its emphasis on spy action and lack of love triangles, for example) generally don't have very long life spans.

Exactly. Not to mention the way Netflix allows Marvel to approach the subject material in such a more mature way simply doesn't give CW a chance to explore these characters with the depth they really deserve. I'd LOVE to see what these CW shows would be like in that type of setting. They'd be SO much better, and that obviously isn't the CW's fault. Those are just the lines they're allowed to color in.

It's just all about budget and the overall tone of the show
as set by their parent networks. Netflix would be more free range
than the average television network.

That said, besides Agent Carter & Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the Marvel shows
have never really captured my attention.
