The Maintenance Thread! [Don't make a new thread, or I cut you-Drak]

Oh lord. I broke another user. I swear, we lose more regulars that way. :(

Not if you're a Mac.

Mirko pays $700 a month...? BWAHAHAHAHAAAAAAA!

Dreamhost.com is good things you should def check it out.

i have to agree with that i visit both sites [i'm judomaster on CS]but i prefer the hype:ninja:

Once LOTR and Episode III were released the traffic died down and that just creates a domino effect.

But this slowdown is ridiculous, have a poll to see if people are willing to use pay pay to chip in the monthly bill. Otherwise the longtime posters will leave due to frustration and any new users won't be interested in a lame message board. They'll join other message boards that have movie sites and get their news from them.

I'm sort of getting the impression that Mirko's focus is more on the smooth operation of the actual SHH news site, and the forums are a secondary concern. I kind of understand that, since there are a lot more people who only come here to read the news instead of posting.

However, this is probably the best time in the last 3 years for adding new members to the forums. It's a shame if the new folks are put off by the lag and don't come back. Tough call, considering the solution equals $700 a month. :(

This is very much NOT true. I'm trying to find a solution for the boards.

Good god, you've only got 2600 posts. You really should post more. Get more involved, we don't bite. Well, I might, but the others have their rabies vaccinations. :o

That's not what she meant, bossman. At least, not what I think she meant.

What I think she was implying was for you to jump in the pool with the group a bit more often--make yourself known a bit more, rub shoulders with the commonfolk and such.

You'll have to excuse my vernacular, I've had a rough night. But I think you get my drift.

Make it a pay site.
You could save the viability of the Hype forums for the cost of a cup of coffee and a bagel a day.

It'd help for banning people too. I doubt people would want to spend 500 dollars on being banned and coming back just for the hell of it :P

Exactly. You know me so well. :yay:

I've been here like what, 3 years now, almost 4, and I've exchanged maybe 5 posts with Mirko, if that. I think he likes being all mysterious.

Yeah Malice jumped into the pool at SHH! and CS! for awhile.

I'll just say that my regular routine is to come to the message boards, see what's new and then head over to the mainsites of CS! and SHH!. I'd pay a small amount. But if you can come with a solution that would be great. Hate not to come to the boards and sites.

Its been very very weird becouse sometimes it goes fast but sometimes slow.

Had the same problem at 1 site where i frequent. The trafffic had gotten so heavy, that they needed more bandwith, but could not afford it. What they did was the suspend everything that was using bandwith, untill they had sufficent funds to upgrade to a higher bandwith. I do not know what the current bandwith you are getting is, but 10 to 1 that is the problem. What you need to do is suspend everything that uses bandwith. Avatars, and all the bells and wistles, and uploading of images, and anything else that uses bandwith, untill you can upgrade. That is the only way to handle it. It won't be as pretty, it will not be as functual, but at least it will be running smothly. I have noticed a difference today. It still hangs, but not as much, or as long. The last thing you want to do is go to a pay site. You'll lose more customers than it would be worth. Me for 1.

this site was running pretty smoothly earlier today... for a while, anyways...

We are not going to become a pay site. Drakon, we're going to try reindexing again this weekend. Not sure when exactly.

check indexes/repair them. try optimising the tables.

restart mysqld.

always works. :D

The real April Fool's gag for me was that the Hype was actually running smoothly that day. Then Drakon did something, I'm sure of it.

Only the actual Community Forum acts up for me.

Huge gaps in the layout.
