Why do the ghostbusters put those spirits in boxes instead of their rightful place in hell?

I think it's cuz they are basing the idea on an in universe idea that science can affect the supernatural. Remember they aren't like four shamans or priests. Egon's finding at the start leads them to come up with a technological way to catch spirits. Anyway the other way is a manga story with girls in school uniforms with insanely short skirts that pray over a slip of paper, throw it at the ghost and then they get transported to the underworld.
