I have nothing against the movie though, (well..jim carrey's :o) but i had a thought. Seeing how there are comic book based movies happening like 24/7 should there be a new mask movie...But however more like the original comic?

YES x1000

I own the original series, and the movie (still a good film) did NOT capture the comic's spirit AT ALL. I would be all for a reboot that's based on the original stories that contains over the top violence and has an R rating. Oh, and they shouldn't leave out Lionel, Kathy, or Walter.

VERY much agreed. I remember picking up the comic about two years ago, and being surprised at how very different the source material was.

Hmm...Well, the director needs to be able to blend *very* black humor with gore....and the characters are kinda souless, I mean, they're all a**holes lol...this would take a bit of thought..

How about Edgar Wright? I like the fast pace of his movies, and he would be able to make this visually distinctive. And he could handle the over the top stuff.

Actually....he might be pretty good. He's done Shaun of the dead, and We have Scott Pilgrim coming out soon...but isn't he on ant man?

And He's also got the third film in his Blood & Ice Cream trilogy (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz being the first two parts)

I've never read the comics but after skimming the wikipedia article, I would love to see a comic-accurate version of The Mask

In case anyone wanted to check out the original comics, this guy on Youtube posted the comic in different parts, complete with voices and sound effects.

There's more, but I'm not sure if I could fit it all here. Just click on "Mask Justice- Part 1" after you're done with "Final Kick".

Bump.... here are the rest.

I've never read the comics, but i must say, that it will be very tough to top Jim Carrey's Mask movie

I don't know if there will be another attempt. Maybe, but since Staney is not even the 'main' Mask (just the first) I think non-fans would be like 'waaah?'.

I know I was when I read the summary.

All those random people and not one protagonist. That ain't gonna fly.

In the comics, even though the main person was replaced, the side characters were still present. If they DO make a reboot and end up making a sequel to it, then it would still feel like a continuation of the story. Kathy, Kellaway, and Walter are very important characters in the story, IMO.

EDIT: Yay, 1,000 posts!

Maybe in a trilogy but you gotta have a main protagonist. I can see them using Stanley and have him die at the end, with Kathy taking over. But you can't just juggle them around in one movie.

The only mask mytho I'm familiar with is the first movie, never read the comics. I grew up watching the Carrey version, so I'd like a decent sequel to that movie, rather than a reboot.

Never read a single one, but I hear they're pretty dark and violent.

That's what I meant. Different protagonists in one movie wouldn't work at all.
oh, you guys have gotta read the comics, they're a trip
Agreed! I love them.

Just click on the Youtube links I posted above. They're the complete first story arc with voice overs and sound effects added (Some panels are missing though, strangely).

i remember when i was a kid reading the mask story arc about this alcoholic dude finding the mask and causing hijinks and then giving it to his daughter for halloween or something. thats the only mask comic i ever read and that was like 13 years ago

This is the first and only Mask Fan Film I've ever seen that is based off the comics and NOT the Jim Carrey movie (no matter how much I loved Mask '94, I still want to see more things based off the comics).

Yes, I think the character is rich enough to get another round in the cinemas.
I still like The Mask, and the special effects hold up surprisingly well today.
