Hey guys, I've got a serious question. I'm selling my bike on Wallopop right now & this guy contacted me through email saying he wanted to buy it. He said he'd be mailing a check through the mail & that he'd have someone pick it up since he's "extremely" busy to come himself. I suspect the check is false or has zero funds on it it has scam written all over it, question is what to do?? Refuse delivery or just shred the check?

Can you cash the check prior to delivery? Can you ask for a money order instead? I'm not sure how Wallopop works. Or once he delivers the check he takes the bike?

I already emailed him saying that I won't release the bike for a check, that I'll only take cash. Question is would I be liable if I took the check only, NOT CASH it? He texted me earlier today saying the check was in the mail on it's way to me.

I was a bit stupid as well, I should have stated cash only on the online ad, but I just didn't look ahead for pitfalls with fake checks etc.

yea i mean.. you could always go to the bank and you know... cash the check. if it doesn't work tell him to **** off... if it does work, keep the money and dip out... then resell the bike again :o

Of course wouldn't I be liable if I cash the check & it turns out it has zero funds?? I'm just going to either shred it or turn it over to the authorities & let them handle it. I won't take any chances with it.

Why would you be responsible for someone else giving you a fake check? If it cashes out, walk away. You can't get in trouble for that lol

Doubt I'll go see BvS this weekend. Looks like I'll be going camping. I don't care what the reviewers are saying anyway, I'm fairly certain I'll enjoy the movie. I may be able to get a small squad up to go see it Saturday though, we'll see.

UPDATE: Looks like camping is a no-go as of today. may ride out tomorrow if I can find a ride. I can take the camping cash and go see it for sure though if I don't go

Waaa. I kinda slept again and when I woke up, I just have little time so I have to ride a taxi to get to where I work. So the fare is like more than 14 times higher than just riding on a jeepney,

The side of Batman we see in here is one I enjoyed watching.
Snyder needs a better editor.
I like that DC seems to want to drop us right into the middle of an already "in motion" universe. I'll need to see this one again, much like I did with TDKR, to decide how I really feel about it.

Not sure if you're serious but this has all the earmarks of a scam. Run it by the cops and the bank first. They'll likely tell you the same thing. Seriously, I've dealt with people who got suckered in by scams a lot and this is very imilar to what I've heard of before.

I just got in a check delivered via FEDEX & it's for $1800. The check has Oakland ISD & the "buyer" wants me to deposit & withdraw the $375 for the bike & the rest of the amount be used to ship the bike to Colorado. SCAM!

Absolutely. If people are doing this then not letting them know you know it's a scam means the cops might be able to catch them. Wait to long and they'll likely vanish.

I wouldn't cash the cheque either. Give it along with forwarding all emails to the cops. They'll be appreciative of your assistance.

GEEZ what's going one this weekend? My sister's Father in-law passed the night before!

I REALLY liked that about the film!

Haha fat chance that will ever happen homie. There is a sucker born every minute and for every Duke that isn't dumb enough to cash the check, there are 10 more that will. Most of these folks doing these scams are in other countries with exactly 0 recourse for anything ever being done to them in their country.
