Ok, we have a ton of threads like this, but I feel that those two films are considered THE best action films of the past decade.

So if you had to chose one of those movie as the best action movie, what is it?

It's tough to vote. I must break it down:

The Dark Knight: 9/10
Mad Max: Fury Road: 7.5/10

DIRECTING
The Dark Knight: 9/10
Mad Max: Fury Road: 10/10

ACTING
The Dark Knight: 9/10
Mad Max: Fury Road: 8.5/10

CINEMATOGRAPHY
The Dark Knight: 9.5/10
Mad Max: Fury Road: 10/10

EDITING
The Dark Knight: 9.5/10
Mad Max: Fury Road: 10/10

Mad Max: Fury Road: 9.3/10

So when I break it down...Max wins my vote.

The Dark Knight beats it for the Joker alone.

The most important question is, is TDK an action film? I don't think so. It's a drama with an action in it. It's more about exploring characters then anything else.

And those rating numbers are so vague. So opaque... but ok ...for the sake of over-simplified internet fanboy discussion... :woot:

STORY/SCREENPLAY
The Dark Knight: 9/10
Mad Max: Fury Road: 7.5/10

Story-wise it's more like
The Dark Knight: 10/10
Mad Max: Fury Road: 3/10

SCORE
The Dark Knight: 10/10
Mad Max: Fury Road: 9/10

The Dark Knight: 10/10
Mad Max: Fury Road: 4/10

There's not many interesting parts in MM:FR OST, while TDK OST is pure awesome.

I'd have to watch both films again to be able to rate and compare the editing and all the technical stuff more precisely. But they are both top-notch quality in this regard from my non-expert perspective, since I'm not a director or an editor, so I can only report how I just feel about those things.

Overall, to me, TDK is 10/10, one of the best films ever, MM:FR is somewhere around 7-8/10, a great action film with an interesting somewhat minimalistic portrayal of characters (which I loved, there's not much talking yet you feel like you know the characters for a long time) but complexity-wise and story-wise it's lacking.

I guess TDK fits in the "action" category because its a superhero movie but I don't really consider it an action movie and since the question is "what's the better ACTION movie" I have to say Mad Max Fury Road BY FAR! It's not even a contest since TDK has mediocre action (at best).

Fury Road wins by way of its first act. The first act is the weakest part of TDK. Its necessary, but it could've been more streamlined.

I like both movies. Fury Road just a little bit more. I feel like there was more nuance to Immortan Joe's character than there was with the Joker or Two-Face. Nolan's style leans more heavily on dialogue for exposition and character while Miller relies on the strength of his actors to sell the character through minimal dialogue and more through showing.

i was asked in the poll what was the best action movie. not just a movie. as an action movie Fury Road is obviously the best.

As action films, I enjoyed a lot of others better than Mad Max, and a few others more than Dark Knight.
As pure films, I liked the Dark Knight a loooot better than Mad Max. I think the Joker alone is better than anything in Mad Max, and that's coming from someone who isn't in love with DC.

I think Mad Max definitely has better action than TDK, but the story, characters, score, acting were all better in TDK, imo.

Such a tough choice I honestly can't decide, both are brilliant but in different ways.

Both are great. Why can't we enjoy both equally without everything being a contest?

The poll is flawed. In terms of action, Fury Road wins by miles, but Fury Road is far more of an action movie than TDK in the first place. I consider TDK more of a drama than an action film.

I enjoyed the Dark Knight more, but they are both perfect films in my opinion.

Snowpiercer and Inception are peers as well, in my opinion, as the best action films of the 21st century.
