Well let's start with the maybes... let's start with Hulk... FIVE FREAKIN' DOLLARS?! Seriously?! Okay, so make readers wait two full years for the identity of the Red Hulk (overdoing it majorly) and then when you get it, you have to pay five bucks! Yeah, I was planning on sticking with the Hulk title only through WWH's but this just might be a great place to ditch it. I'm only collecting it for the WWH's Skaar connections but it's barely even connected so I don't really have much problem skipping it. Besides that, there's Thunderbolts, which I gave the first issue a shot and was only mildly impressed. I figure I'll thumb through this issue to decide if I'll give it a little more time before dropping it (or at least through issue 149/Shadowland). This past week I tried the Green Arrow and enjoyed them, so I'm curious about this new title. I'll thumb through it. My problem is that I like him in a team setting, or with a bunch of guest stars or family connections. Green Arrow/Black Canary lost me once Mia and Conner left. I'm worried this'll be the same. And lastly, Rise of Arsenal. I'm curious about this series and am considering picking up the back issues, so this is a maybe for that reason. Chances are, it'll be a no for now until I have extra money.


Besides that it's an okay week. I've been very disappointed with The Return of Bruce Wayne so I'm not exactly excited about issue 3. This may also be my final issue of X-Factor, as from here on out I plan to only skim the next few issues with a potential of dropping. I like the characters but the title really is one of my least favorite of the X-Line and I need books to drop. I know it's supposed to be a big jumping point again after this like with the Madrox Baby issue, so we'll see what happens. The other three are pretty solid though. Green Lantern Corps is awesome and Secret Warriors is regularly one of my favorite books each month. X-Men Legacy should be good due to Second Coming being good thus far, despite my disappointment in the later half of the story.

Yeah I think this issue is the Origin of the Red Hulk instead of the identity, same as I think the Incredible Hulk coming out Wednesday is the Origin of the Red She-Hulk. Thank God that one's not $5.

The sales would seem to indicate that people do still give a crap, assuming everyone's not like JH and just continuing to buy Hulk for some arcane and mysterious purpose known only to himself.

Throughout Fall Of The Hulks, rankings for Hulk didn't change, though, staying in the 20's. In fact, the last issue that really revealed Rulk's identity dropped to 31. Gail Simone's Birds Of Prey did better.

It isn't enough to see where a book falls in the Top 100 list, as that is relative to the health of the industry. Sales for comics on a whole are down. Many comics in the Top 50 or even Top 40 would have been lucky to have been in the Top 70 in 2006-2007. The best selling Hulk book in April was WORLD WAR HULKS #1, that sold just under 41,400 copies, at #34 of the Top 35. There were other WORLD WAR HULK mini's out but they all sold below that.

The last available sales figures for HULK were from March 2010, as it skipped April. It sold within the Top 25, yes, but at under 50,500 copies. Sales for it within the last 6 months have fallen over 13%, but sales from April 2009 show an even ghastlier drop; issue #11 from April '09 sold well over 82k. That means within 11 months, over 32,000 readers have left HULK, with the series still losing about 2%-8% of their readers a month, depending on covers or promotion. INCREDIBLE HULK #608 sold over 47k in March, and has seen a less extreme 6 month drop of 8%. It is selling only about 3,000 copies below Loeb's HULK, and if Loeb's HULK continues to drop, both will be selling about even at least. The numbers show that Loeb's HULK has clearly lost steam despite a crossover with another book and some mini's and one-shots, and it isn't helping it's sister title either. If anything, INCREDIBLE HULK could over take HULK in sales, much as WOLVERINE: ORIGINS now outsells DARK WOLVERINE and WOLVERINE: WEAPON X most months.
