The No Brainer: Pirates on TV! DUH

Ok, it seems like everyone is busy trying to copy this and that formula...but when was the last anyone saw a pirate tv show? And no, Gilligans Island does not count...the only pirate show I remember is the toon Pirates of Dark Water. With the popularity of Pirates of the Caribbean, why doesnt some bloody executive throw out a pirate show pilot?! DUH!

This would be a very expensive show to make, but It would be cool. As long as they don't try to make it a PotC clone, then it won't be cool.

because with a tv budget the production design will blow (excuse the punn) or it will be cancelled due to high budget (fastlane)

only the pilot really broke the bank, and when they discovered they had a hit on their hand they went for it...i just don't think now days a pirate formula that doesn't have johnny depp/jack sparrow in it will sell...think about pirates of the carribean with just orlando bloom and keira knightley, ye i wouldn't see it either

Basically it was Hercules on the sea, without the production values and with worse acting. It was so bad it was good.

And the big fat guy was the voice of Beast on X-Men

There was this saturday morning cartoon on Fox about a very cynical and rather unsuccesful pirate and his first mate. I thought it was actually quite funny. I remember that the main character, after being wished a happy birthday, simply said "Hooray. One year closer to death."

I loved how the big epic battles were just Sinbad swinging his sword on the beach, while a superimposed giant animal walked around.

What about a pirate show that the viewers determine the outcome, like the books we read as kids where asto you would have to turn to page X for this or turn to page X for that? The production cost might be a bit high, but they could film different sequences at the same time and let the audience decide what the outcome would be. The possibilities are plentiful, plus it would make for an awesome DVD, as in the extras, you could watch the show and make your own determinations as to where the story goes.
