Yeah this is the armour i was hopin they'd use in the film. In my opinion it would work the best on screen most of the other variations.

Have you got a large solo pic of his Crimson Dynamo ?

no crimson dynamo:( sorry just got those off his site

Anyone read his recent blog?

He mentioned something special taking place at the Con in San Diego that he cannot talk about.

Probably has to do with the film.

Thanks for the heads up. You should scoop it to The Hype. It should make the front page.

San Diego Comic Con

Once again the con season is upon us. This year I am attending only the San Diego Comic Con for three days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I don't have a schedule yet because I am there mostly for fun and to meet with friends and colleagues, but I will do a couple of signings and events. I will most definitelly do a signing and hopefully sketching at the Marvel booth. I am also supposed to make an appearance of some kind at the Sideshow Collectibles booth in light of their release of the Iron Man statue based on my work. There will also be something quite special on one of the days that I can't talk about yet but it's very exciting...

San Diego is only a part of our week in Cali, the rest of which we'll be in LA. I am very much looking forward to it as it will be a much needed (working) vacation for us.

Hopefully the Iron Man: Extremis hard cover will be out by then (it's scheduled for July) so I actually have something to show for myself.

cool maybe thats what favreau was talking about^

Adi Granov single handedly reinvigorated the Iron Man comcis. You can hold me to this.

Hahaha.

I'm glad to hear that Adi is the concept/character designer for the film.

i hope they go through 3+ armors for the film

old-school, solid gold/sliver one-piece armor

then maybe the modular armor, and/or the mark VI or even some stealth modifications

and finally the uber-awesomness that is granov's armor for the final, or maybe it's something tony was developing for the sequel

You just can't beat Granov's Iron Man --- he takes all the cheesy stylistic details of past armors and molds it all into something that looks and feels real, while still being very clearly Iron Man.... I'd almost go so far as to say he's already become the definitive shellhead artist. :o

At one point I was leaning towards them taking an Ultimate approach to the armor.... till Granov showed up. It'd be absolutley insane not to take a cue from his work, honestly, especially as far as armor design.

I fully agree, back when the 'Notebook' director was supposed to direct this film, I would always wonder how they were going to pull off the Iron Man armor for the movie without going the bulky Ultimate look.

I like Granov's IM design all except one thing: the boots. I wish the thigh pieces were gold. Those thigh high looking boots look like a woman superhero's style boots, ala Storm. Other than that, all very real-world, most readily translatable to the liveaction big screen.

I agree with you completely, Granov's work on Iron Man has been the best run in the titles 40+ year history and its appropraite that he is doing the character design for the film.

Granov's armor design has the sort of "texture" to it that filmmakers go nuts for. Little "unnecessary" details like the lines in the solid gold sections of the thighs give texture to the character that can be needed, especially in the harsh lighting of a set.

However, I can't help but wonder if the pentagonal "light" on the chest might draw unfounded Superman comparisons to the non-comic initiated?

It would be easy enough to make it a circle and keep the rest as is.

I believe Jon addressed that very question about the chest, saying he preferred the circle on the chest, more classic.

He also said the triangular one was cooler looking, though.

I have to agree also:up:
