Iron Man More on Iron Man at Comic-Con

I go to a con for everything and because they are fun. I think people that post and watch the bootleg people online ruin part of that. For years I was avid about this and going to SDCC to see stuff like this, I loved the reports, but it was even better to be there in person. To see everything live, and to go to the booths and see what the movie, toy, and comic companies are offering.

Back in the day, I was fine with the comprehensive recaps of the footage, now it's like, oh in one minute all the footage that they said was made for just us can be viewed by anyone.

This seems to be about you wanting it to be just for you comic con guys and you're pissed that us that didn't have the option are getting to see it,that is selfish as hell.

i think the proble mis that teh movei is not finished and if you watch the footage very quick then you cna not found out hte mistakes. if this footage goes online then it will look very unfinished and this is what studios fear.

Meh. There are lots of finished films that look unfinished AND suck.

IM's footage was, indeed, unfinished, and it shows. Even so, it didn't failed to hype the good hype, cause the good outweighted the (spotty) bad.

Remember, there's one entire YEAR to finish the film and polish the SFX. If it's already giving a good vibe NOW, imagine in 2008.

IMHO, none.

Yeah I mean from what I have seen it has done nothing but hype people even more up for this movie. I also listen to Howard Stern's show every day and on his most recent show he made a side comment that he actually saw the leaked footage before it got removed and he said it looked really good and was looking forward to it.

If TheVileOne does not like the way things are done here then maybe he should find a new board to visit.

I am just playing devil's advocate here but what is the downside of the bootleg footage leaking online?

I don't see a downside in this case but look what happened with the Ghost Rider footage that leaked online a couple years ago. That was no where's near the finished product and it was clearly stated as a work in progress but several websites ignored that and started bashing the F/X including AICN. Whether you liked the film or not after it was finished is another matter but the Ghost Rider effects when complete were amazing. Same thing happened with the Hulk, Spider-Man 2 & 3, and several other films. I think in this case though the footage shown was so damn good. If the studio wants it taken down because they think it's not a reflection of the product they want the whole world exposed to then I say we honor their wishes, but it would make more sense for the studio to approve a video states clearly it's incomplete and a work in progress. Remember these studios want to make the best first impression now to build up nothing but positive hype. Any negativty can really hurt a film considering the intense competition each week after Iron Man's release.

It seems, in Iron Man's case at least, the leaked footage has only helped with hype and as yet, I've heard no serious complaints about the footage, but I can see how footage can also hurt a film, as mentioned about Ghost Rider, while I enjoyed the film, I didn't see the leaked footage,so that didn't affect my opinion of the film, but he did effect other people's, who chose to stay away, based off of unfinished footage.

why bother showing anybody anything unless you are truelly happy with it.

heck, personally i think iron man has managed to bag a lot of free publicity and all positive as well.

they need to get a proper trailer out for it pronto and keep teh ball rolling.

I will say though that it might be a tad early to be wanting to start on the heavy advertising for this film as it just pressures them to want to release more and more scenes closer to the time and i always feel that this generally hurts a film.

I wonder what Gwyneth is thinking about the geeks in the audience. :yay:
Yay! Gwyneth Paltrow Likes The British More Than Americans

gwyneth%20paltrow%20pregnant.jpg
Gwyneth Paltrow has played all sorts of characters in her time, but none more challenging than her latest role - now Gwyneth Paltrow is a playing woman who all Americans want to kick up the arse because she likes British people more than them.
You see, in a recent interview Gwyneth Paltrow started spouting off about how British people were more interesting, intelligent and civilised than their American counterparts, and her comments appear to have sparked off some kind of nationwide outrage in America. Sure, we know that a little over a year ago Gwyneth Paltrow said the exact opposite thing and gave Britain a slating, but we're going to ignore that because the sense of validation that we get when a watery macrobiotic wooly-headed ninny who names her children after various pieces of fruit like Gwyneth Paltrow shows slightly more affection towards us than the country her family is from is simply overwhelming.

When people say to us "hecklerspray, what's the difference between British people and American people?" we always point them in the direction of Gwyneth Paltrow, because of the different reactions she provokes. Back in October 2005 Gwyneth Paltrow started bitterly complaining about Britain to an American magazine, perhaps not realising that both countries share the same language. Anyway, Gwyneth said:
"I’m just like, ‘The street is filthy, could we take off our shoes before we come into the house?’ … Also, the customer service is just rubbish in England. People are much more relaxed there, and things take for ever to get done. They’ll tell you it’ll take two weeks for your Internet service to be fixed! It drives me nuts."

And in response to Gwyneth Paltrow's unprovoked attack the people of Britain came together and… well, sort of gave a begrudging agreement, really, grumbling that Britain is quite **** actually, mainly because Justin Lee Collins lives there. But Gwyneth Paltrow is nothing but fair, and so when she had to give an interview to a Portuguese newspaper, Gwyneth started laying into Americans too:
"I love the English lifestyle, it's not as capitalistic as America. People don't talk about work and money, they talk about interesting things at dinner. I like living here because I don't fit into the bad side of American psychology. The British are much more intelligent and civilised than the Americans."

These comments - and here's how Britain and America are different, folks - have apparently started a wave of slightly redundant anti-Gwyneth Paltrow sentiment in America, as The Mirror reports:
Her comments sparked anger in the US, where radio and TV chat shows were deluged with protests yesterday. One caller said: "She sounds like she thinks she's better than us. She should stay across the Atlantic. We don't need her." Another ranted: "If she feels that way we are far better off without her."
As well as this idiotic right-wing " Hey Gwyneth! Love it or leave it! And, yes, we're technically aware that you've left it already but you get the idea" squawking, Americans are also organising several public mass burnings of Gwyneth Paltrow Bounce, Possession, Duets and Sky Captain And The World Of Tomorrow DVDs, or at least they would if anyone was brave enough to admit that they own any of them.
But, hey, Americans. Don't feel upset that Gwyneth Paltrow prefers us to you. Because, like it or not, Gwyneth Paltrow still displays a lot of American characteristics - like having the bizarre desire to exorcise her house and sing songs with rappers - so when she insults you she really insults herself. Plus, if you needed any more convincing of how American Gwyneth Paltrow is, she still gives her children really stupid names, and we hear that's about as American as Abraham Lincoln eating a slice of apple pie while doing a drive-by on Mickey Mouse.
_____________________________________________________________

What a hippo- crit! I wish they had found someome else for the Pepper role. We're too capitalistic for her. But yet she's about to bank role this movie big time. And off of the "stupid American fans who made her who she is.

I'm still gonna go see it. But I thought it was interesting on her part.

I guess it is safe to say that Gwyneth took this role for one reason and one reason only the pay check & she is indeed a very big hippocrate

Hehe well Im a pretty new fan of Iron Man's and dont know much about the character shes playing but I was not thrilled to hear she'd been cast, not because of that ^^^ but because she's a bad actress.

'Iron Man' Details Ironed Out: Hilary Swank's Cameo, Terrence Howard's Evil Future And More
'My inner nerd has found excellent company,' Robert Downey Jr. says of eager Comic-Con crowd.
By Larry Carroll

SAN DIEGO — It wasn't a blessing afforded to "Titanic," the first "Harry Potter" movie or "Kill Bill." The original "X-Men" angered fans when its costumes were leaked, and the revelation that "Spider-Man" would feature organic webs on Peter Parker caused near-rioting.

But somehow, every single casting announcement, leaked plot point and piece of footage from "Iron Man" has been met with seemingly unanimous approval (see " 'Iron Man' Set Visit: MTV News Gets First Glimpse Of Stark Office, The Mask").

"We've been very fortunate, in both the images we've released and the images we didn't want to get out there — everybody seems to be digging the way we're going with it," beamed director Jon Favreau over the weekend, as he unleashed a drool-inducing montage clip at Comic-Con (see "Comic-Con '07: Big News On 'Iron Man,' 'Watchmen,' 'Star Trek,' 'Spidey 4' Amid Carnival Atmosphere"). "I attribute a lot of that to the way Marvel handles its properties. Now that they're making their own movies, they can stay really true to what the fans want."

If that is the case, then fans seem to desire a sarcastically devilish Tony Stark; eye-popping scenes of the red-and-yellow tin man battling F-22 jet fighters; powerful dramatic stars like Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Jeff Bridges and Terrence Howard; and cameos from Marvel table-setters Samuel L. Jackson (as Nick Fury) and Hilary Swank.

"We showed [the Comic-Con fans] a couple minutes that pretty well outlined Tony Stark's journey to becoming Iron Man," Downey explained. "There's a little bit of smartass to him going on, but you can tell that he's obviously a big weapons manufacturer. And then he goes through this ordeal and has a change of heart."

That change of heart also impacts his friend Jim Rhodes (Howard) and secretary Virginia "Pepper" Potts (Paltrow), a formula potent enough to make the Con crowd members offer up their ultimate compliment: The footage was so nice, said their applause, that they had to see it twice.

"It was amazingly fun," Downey said of the reception. "My inner nerd has found excellent company."

"[Stark] doesn't have superpowers; his brain is his superpower," Paltrow said of what sets the character apart from Spidey, Supes and the Silver Surfer. "He builds his superpower, as opposed to being converted into having a superpower or being born with a superpower. It's his brilliant mind that enables him to become this amazing superhero."

"Any one of us can become Iron Man," insisted Howard, citing the brief clip of Stark escaping from an Iraqi cave in a crude Tin Man-like costume. "All we have to do is use our ability to think and have a willingness to step outside from the boundaries that technology says we're in. ... It's a real-life superhero."

"The suit that he builds evolves over time," said Favreau, who insisted on staying as close to the character's 44-year-old Marvel story line as possible. "The first suit has flamethrowers in the hands and armor plating and superhuman strength. Then the suit slowly develops into something that could fly and actually evade F-22s or dogfight with them. There are missile systems that are hidden under armor panels, and then there are the repulsor beams that come out of his feet and his palms. They could be used to fly, or as a weapon."

So not only will the May debut of "Iron Man" yield some kick-ass Halloween costumes, but the suit will also set the stage for plenty of groundbreaking special effects.

"It's always great when you show footage and they call for an encore," Favreau said. "These fans, they study that — they look at every frame, and they want to know everything that they can about the movie. We have a lot of stuff ready [to screen], so it's just a matter of what you choose to show, knowing that you're still 10 months out from premiering."

Among the rest of the positively received news that leaked from the weekend is the confirmation that Howard's character will become War Machine in the "Iron Man" sequels. "With War Machine, you've got to remember that after Tony Stark made the new Iron Man suit, James Rhodes put on that suit," the "Hustle & Flow" star said of the comic books. "But it's been programmed to Tony Stark's neuro-net and the frequency by which his brain communicates, which allows him to not have to push buttons but just think things. But now [once he puts it on], that drives Jim Rhodes crazy.

"Judging from how that audience responded," Howard added with a grin, "we got a pretty good shot of having some War Machine go down."

"I'm excited about the prospect of moving forward and seeing War Machine appear," Favreau confirmed. "And exploring the rogues gallery that Marvel has to offer."

Paltrow, meanwhile, said she'll develop her own antagonistic relationship with Downey as the series progresses. "Pepper and Tony have an amazing dynamic, it's very charged," she explained. "They love each other a lot, but yet she's his assistant. So she's his subordinate, but she's the closest person to him, and she is kind of his boss in a way, getting him here and there on time and guiding him in one direction or another. Then occasionally, they also have a bit of a romantic tingly thing that happens."

As Stark develops his substance-abuse tendencies (Favreau has said the second film will depict the character's alcohol dependency), the relationship with Pepper will become even more complex. "There is a lot of love," Paltrow said of the series. "Sometimes it's fraternal, and sometimes it's a bit more."

Then there's the double-foreshadowing duties of Favreau, a longtime comics fan who has agreed to not only set up his own sequels, but also the future adventures of other Marvel characters. "Right now, our job is to make the best version of 'Iron Man' that we can," he insisted. "But because Marvel is regathering the rights to all their heroes and their properties little by little, it's going to allow for them to cross-pollinate between franchises. [Then they can] have heroes guest in other heroes' movies, as they do in the comic books."

Pushed a bit further, Favreau would only acknowledge Swank's cameo, but refused to reveal whether it will set her up as She-Hulk, Black Widow, the Wasp or someone else. "There's a lot of rumors online right now, and I've only honestly read one that's true," he hinted. "There's a lot of misinformation out there. But I'm not about to get up and start confirming or denying things, because there is so much of a swirl of speculation that it's kind of fun!

"It's funny to watch the fans try and piece this thing together," he added. "They are right about a lot of things — but there are also a lot of things that they are way off-base with."

Excellent find and article,

there's so many things to extract and use in different threads..
very well done...

The event is stupid to me because its filled to the brim with people like you. I dont feel like walking through a place with thousands of people dressed up like stormtroopers.
That's a little closed minded. I attend many conventions....and have yet to dress up in anything more than my jeans and a shirt.

Dude I dont appreciate what Favreau did and believe that footage belongs online for all the fans. My father was born in 1957 and has been reading Iron Man while you were probably drinking from a baby bottle. He works over 70 hours a week and doesnt have the time to go to some silly convention in San Diego. My dad deserves to see that footage just as much as you do. You got to see it on a big screen and we see crappy cam footage and you think you have the right to complain? You paid to get in and see it on a big screen so shut up already. The footage should be online in HD but it isnt so quit your crying.
That's funny....I was born in 1957 also....and have been reading Iron Man and other comics since a kid.....I don't have time to go to San Diego either....but I don't feel that I deserve to see any bootleg footage from there.

I've spoken of this attitude several times on the boards here....too many people feel that they "deserve" everything that is available....I feel that people "deserve" the basics to sustain life....everything else is lucky extras.

Well said C. Lee. Unfortunately in the internet age, there's little to be done about keeping this stuff out of the public, but I've admired what you've done running the site here in keeping bootlegged pics and such off the site.

People need to reaize that people work hard for that stuff, I'm not talking about the actors, I'm talking about the film crew, the gaffers, guys making maybe 30K a year, only because they love doing what they do.
