Probably it's not necessary to upgrade. Photoshop is always a fine program. But I don't know the differences between 5 and 6. Maybe this is one:

I use Photoshop CS6

You can't use the 64bit version of CS5 for importing movie to frames for some stupid reason.

I use Photoshop CS 6, since I was lucky to get it. Is the best software to convert videos to gifs and compress them to the right size.
