Finally read the trade of Hickham's first FF arc. He's starting to head towards the top of my favorite writers list.

Man, Pyro's power really sucks when you get right down to it. :o

That's why i've never respected him as a character. That and the fact that he's supposed to be Australian, yet he's severely lacking in the awesome department.

FANTASTIC FOUR #582
Written by JONATHAN HICKMAN
Penciled by NEIL EDWARDS
Cover by ALAN DAVIS
At collapsed Chronopolis, after the heat death of the universe, Reed, Ben, Doom and Nathaniel Richards battle for both the past and the future. It's the end of everything as two heroes sacrifice themselves for their family.
32 PGS./Rated A ...$2.99

Could this be leading to that mysterious "3" symbol? God, I hope not. Would be nice to see She-Hulk but FF without the Thing is always awkward for me. It splits my attention too much. But if my theory is correct we should be reverting back to a Post Secret Wars status for the FF.

Oh.... Doom and Nathaniel....

:ff: :ff: :ff:

What would a post secret wars status mean  . No Thing and a substitue ?

Why would Ben leave the Fantastic Four? If Wolverine can balance two teams and a solo book, why can't Thing be in both the Fan4 and the Avengers?

It's that damn "3" graphic that leaked from C2E2 that's got me worried. And yes, Texas, that's what I meant. Remember when Ben stayed on Battleworld? Even when he returned he didn't join the FF again right away. Luckily we had a Thing solo series to even things out a little. Now we've only got New Avengers. Hardly enough page time for the Idol of Millions.

Dammit Dan! Bring back Marvel Two In One!!!

:thing: :thing: :thing:

I don't want any of the Prime 4 to leave! Didn't we have enough of that with Black Panther and Storm?

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Apparently not.

They should have Johnny or Sue leave. It's really obvious to replace Reed with a sciency-type or Ben with a super-strong person, but what about Sue or Johnny? Would the other FF members be like, "Sue's gone! We'd better recruit another mom, stat!" Or "Johnny's gone! Someone call Spider-Man--we need him to fill our arrogant jokester niche!"

Medusa and Crystal were the first replacements. Sue is usually replaced with a psycho. Johnny is usually replaced with HERBIE. :argh:

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Sue should be replaced with She-Hulk. Jen and Ben on the same team makes me happy for some reason. :)

Johnny should be replaced with Iceman. Perfect personality swap, inverted power swap. That could be fun.

The original Bennifer.

Iceman could be fun. Would be nice to see him in Reed's lab. Give him the full diagnostic on just how extensive his powers are. Usually people leave with a bit more power after hanging with the FF. Whether it's Ben's weights or Reed's diagnostics.

Wonder what other fire guy would fit? Rusty? Too boring. Original Torch? That'd be weird.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Toro's back as of the Torch mini-series. He could ably replace Johnny. He'd be a lot less goofy and more hardened soldier, though. He was pretty angsty in Torch, but they could easily get him over that now that Bucky and Jim are back.

Iceman could be the FF's accountant. :D

Hey, someone other than me remembers that Iceman is a CPA!

With Johnny as the CFO of FF Inc. it would be sweet if Sue assigned Bobby to ride him over the budget. Great stuff.

Especially the big battle when Tax Day rolled around.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

Virtually every member of the Four has been replaced at some point or other. I think except for Johnny Storm, but I could be off. Reed has been MIA and presumed dead a few times. Sue was side-lined a few times due to pregnancy or Reed just wanting her to be safe, and Thing has branched out for a few reasons.

There is absolutely zero chance of Iceman replacing Human Torch. It makes too much sense and the X-Office are zealots with hording X-characters. It too Ed Brubaker 5-6 years into CA to wrest Beast from their mitts. I've always wanted Spider-Man to join an official roster for real, but I doubt it. Still, he has a better chance than Iceman. The Walrus has a better chance than Iceman. The X-Office would rather they not use a character than another franchise of books use them gloriously. Aside for Wolverine, of course.

Part of me thinks that anyone who is leaving the Four for the moment will be replaced by a character who has shown up in this run before. Hasn't Alex Power/Zero-G popped up once before? Maybe Franklin will finally get a suit and a chance at using his powers without being speed-aged (even if it really does make no sense for him to be under 13 after all these years).

I've been thinking about Franklin's age. If the debut of the Fantastic Four only happened about 15 years ago, then I guess Franklin should still be between 12 and 15. What fraggles my rock is that Millar implied he was only 9 during the Christmas special. Also, he should be consistently drawn way taller than Val, who's still only 2.

The only kid who will be allowed to age normally of any hero will be Luke Cage's kid. :o

If Franklin was a DC character, he'd already have been a Teen Titan. And probably have been killed, reborn, killed again, lost an arm and whined about it next to Cyborg (who lost most of his body) for 16 issues before being given a Polka Dot Lantern Ring and all would be well.
