I didn't say he had to be perfect I just said that I thought it was rude to publically blast your peers the way some are.

You guys wouldn't be defending a director if they said that Spielberg was hack or Nolan. You'd be crawling up your asses to defend those directors and call the person out.

I just got back from seeing this and I absolutely loved it. I really don't get the hate, its fun as hell, it looks amazing, Ryan Reynolds nails it and Mark Strong steals the show as Sinestro 9 out of 10.

One minor complaint it could have been a little longer.

Exactly how I feel. I loved every second of it, and I wanted more.

Except he never called Martin a hack.

He's specifically criticizing the film itself plus Nolan and Spielberg have never flubbed this hard and if they did I'd criticize that movie accordingly.

That's the thing though, all they are doing is justifying poor film making by accepting what's been presented to them.

Oh I'm sure they want it done better....but for it to fade away and never come back?

I still haven't forgiven Spielberg for Hook and Amistaad.

Who said anything about that? But I'm not waiting 7 weeks let me put it that way.

Well, saying your'e going to wait until it's online means you're either going to torrent in, or wait until it shows up on Netflix... or am I missing something here?

Wife and I just came back from seeing it. I know very little about GL and thought the movie was decent. The space scenes were pretty cool and kept me interested. Thor & XFC blow it out of the water, IMO.
I left thinking WTF when I saw the after credit scene. To avoid spoiling it, I'll just say his portrayal in the movie (very honorable) didn't quite fit what he did in that final scene.

Nowhere near as bad as GhostRider, PWZ, DD, or X3. It just seemed like the potential for something so much better was there. My rating is probably a 5.5/10.

... You don't mean to pirate, do you?

I just got back from Green Lantern...here are my thoughts (spoilers):

I think this movie is getting too much hate to an extent, but the story is VERY flawed. This is a 2 star script somewhat saved by visual aspects. The characters are very shallow. Hal is the only character with really any depth. Tim Robbins was useless. Hector Hammond was whiny and useless, though he had potential to serve as an effective mirror for Hal. But, in the end, Hammond is tossed aside like a punk and we get no payoff. The mirror aspect is shallow. Blake Lively does very little but bat her eyes and pine for Hal. She was useless. Parallax was defeated far too easily for my taste and I didn't like the design. Killowog does nothing. Tomar Rae does nothing but narrate. Sinestro was well acted, but he had no arc. He sees the power of fear, but the power of fear was defeated by a single Lantern. He showed respect for Hal and seemed to realize how right he was in fighting fear. Then, he takes the yellow ring anyway? Makes no sense.

The visuals were good enough to elevate the film a bit over the script. But, the story had many problems.

3/5 based on enjoyment...but rating it objectively, prob a 2/5

Your still pirating if you don't see the film in theaters. I mean I don't care but don't beat around the bush.

I gotta seriously ask this, why are some fans ok with a poor first film?
when it comes to comic book movies, especially, I do tend to give first movies a bit more leeway... as they are usually slow to start, you have to establish a backstory, introduce all the characters, all that stuff...
(an from the film makers prospective, they are still working out the kinks, and testing the field of what works and doesn’t)

where in the sequels, the hero is already established, an you can get right into it (an they have a better idea of what people want to see)

Spot on. I have to agree with you 100%.

If this fails who know if there will ever be a GL film again . If it does good they can get lucky and make a good film by accident ( if its as bad as the critics are saying my judgement is reserved til tom)

I think all dc fans should see this film in theaters if they ever hope to see a non Batman film

If this is what you get with a non-Batman film....they may want to stay far away.
