The "It isn't a masterpiece but..." schtick has gotten really tiresome to constantly read. It's as if its asking to much for a film to just be good or great.

Again, it's a way of saying I liked the movie but it could have been better. If you don't like the phrase, don't use it and we can all be friends.

Thor learns how to be a hero in 6 hours?!

Not saying your not correct in how Hal learns, but Thor's isn't much better.

This is my final word on the both pictures because they are in fact the same film.

Thor's character journey is handled better, yes, but everything else? Green Lantern wins, almost hands down. The action. The design. Both scores are forgettable. Both love stories work in their own ways. Green Lantern was shot better, by miles. Lantern looks more polished than Thor. Both main characters are given charismatic performances by the leads. Thor had the better villain. Lantern had the better visual effects and scope.

For me, it's a tie. I enjoyed them both equally but different.

But again, this isn't even close to the worse comic book film of all time. Thor didn't deserve the 77% and Lantern doesn't deserve the 24%. They're both at about 50% respectively.

And I totally get that alot of folks here were disappointed with the flick. For my money, all I can say is I had a good time watching it and felt like the mythology was really well represented. My biggest complaint was that the flick should have been longer to let some of the plot elements breathe.

Yes, Hal got a pep talk about his courage but we already saw his courage when he saved the citizens at the party.

We saw his fearlessness during the test dog fight sequence.

Thor gets a pep talk from Loki, becomes a better person, only to realize that Loki tricked him. Him sacrificing himself for Jane kind of doesn't make sense. He should be really pissed instead of somber at that point.

Agreed about the Thor point. Didn't believe a second of the whole Jane thing in the first place.

it's a pretty common colloquialism, not meant to be taken literally. my post wasn't in response to any others, just my thoughts on the flick.

I know and I don't mean to attack you but I think that it's being overused to justify bad or mediocre filmmaking too often on this site. It's nothing personal, your use of it just happen to set me off right this moment.

It's just boring at this point. I'm kinda really tired of it. I can't stop anyone from saying or writing it ofcourse but that saying doesn't and never will justify a bad or mediocre film.

Well, if you look at the Jane and Thor story as a first date/flirtation love story, it does work that way.

Another thing I forgot to say one of the reviews I read ripped the score but I thought it was superb. One thing I did love about this movie was it was more of a famnily movie than say Nolan's Batman movies (which I love) and its nice to get some diversity with DC's superhero films.

Um, I wouldn't call this a family film at all. The representation of Parallax, Hammond, and what the do with their powers is kind of intense.

I mean, the results of their actions are kind of horrific for this genre. That was one of the most surprising bits of the film. They don't shy from the consequences in this film.

I think its easily more of a family film than any of Nolan's Batman films or Superman Returns. It was a lot of fun, I think kids will love this film.

Well, yeah, it's more family oriented than Nolan's Batman films. Superman Returns? I actually don't think so.

You do see skeletons ripped from people's bodies and chard corpses in Superman Returns.

I watched John Carpenter's The Thing when I was 6 and I thought it was a fairy tale about a dog.

Just watched it, was supposed to watch kung fu panda but it wasnt showing so GL it was. It was a mediocre film to say the least, Thor and Xmen were far above this in terms of the same genre.

You know what else I thought was incredibly stupid?

Hal goes to Oa after he gets his little pep talk from Carol. He's saying to the Guardians and Sinestro "Help me save my planet". Then he goes on some little speech...

Then he changes his request to "Let me go fight for my world"

Uhhh, what? So you went to Oa to first ask for some help, then to ask for permission to defend Earth on your own?

He's not asking for permission. He's deciding to show them proof that their way of will is the best way, not give into fear.

He's going to show them proof that he's worthy and that human's, as a species, are worthy of being Lanterns.

You do understand that the Guardians were going to sacrifice Earth and wait for Parallax to come to Oa and fight fear with fear. The Lanterns, as a whole, have a standing order to wait until Parallax attacks them.

This is one of the problems Sinestro has with the Guardians and why the end credits sequence makes sense. Sinestro acts. The Guardians don't.

A GL film where Sinestro is the good guy and actually ends up respecting and admiring Hal, is no GL film.

I want a sequel so that they can tell a real GL story.

There's nothing wrong with Sinestro respecting and admiring Hal in the beginning.

It showed a side of Hal that most wouldn't expect...the guy was good with kids. It adds depth to the character.

that's where he got the idea for the racetrack that saves Tim Robbins during the helicopter crash.

Wow, I didn't catch that.

Yea i get that. But i thought the way he flip flopped from asking for help, to saying "let me save my world" was a bit dumb.

And it also makes the after credit scene really, really stupid. There is just no reason for him to embrace the yellow ring. Hal Jordan supposedly proved that Willpower IS the greatest power in the universe.
