He does a bit more than just sulk after he leaves Oa. He has a heroic moment that's not about him. It was a selfless act on his part.

I haven't seen the film yet, but I'm sure even you would agree that even though that might make sense, there is a possibly much better way for this to be handled.

GL had better visuals than Thor, but in terms of structure and plotting, Thor was miles better. This film had 2 terrbile villains who got no development. In Thor, Loki was a strong villain. Very strong villain. The actors in Thor were by and large better. Yes, the story takes place over 2 days, but the story progressed in a way that made that seem more natural than GL's all of the place writing. GL had the potential to be as good as Thor in story structure, but they squandered the potentially good storylines. It's frustrating. Thor I walked out happy. This movie, I walked out entertained by asking for more.

seems like both this films suffer due to the earth scenes

Marvin,

There's better ways to handle a lot of things all in all films.

There are numerous things that could've been handled differently in Lantern. But, a lot of the things in this film work. A lot doesn't. The good stuff greatly outweighed the bad.

Now, having said that, I need another viewing to really cement my feelings on it. I'm just going off of gut reaction to what I saw last night. Like all first viewings, things go by way too quickly.

I thought Thor's Earth scenes were good. Because they had genuine emotion and actually made sense to the story.

Green Lantern has nothing that even comes close to the scene where Loki visits Thor when he's in the SHIELD facility.

dark b,

I actually think that's bull**** because of how horrific the results are when Hector and Parallax display their powers. That's not kids stuff and it doesn't feel or look like kids stuff.

has anyone see the animated episode of superman where kyle gets the ring and Sinestro comes gunning for him?

I think if johns wasn't involved sinestro would have been the villain in this and it would have ended in battle similar to that episode sans superman.
..for better or worse of course.

Yeah, I think the Incredible Hulk doesn't work...especially after viewing the deleted scenes. They gutted the heart out of that film.

Something like that would have made for a far better film.

TIH was a good movie. Far better than Ang Lee's disaster, IMO. It's still my least favorite of the Marvel Studios films to date, but it's far and away superior to the likes of X3, Wolverine, and SR.

This movie should have been more like First Flight.

I agree somewhat, it's a little too far removed from earth for WB to really sell it as a superhero film though, the ending is killer though. Best ever in some ways.

I like Incredible but it would surely have been a better movie with that stuff left in.

I look at the superhero films I've had so far and they've all given me something different and that's why I've rated all three films a 9 out of 10.

For some reason, I'm having second thoughts on First Class. It kind of irks me how they hedged their bets on whether it was a straight prequel to Singer's films and or a reboot.

Initial viewing didn't bother me but now it does. And there are a few other things that bug me about that film...but it's still the best comic book film of the summer.

I disliked it. I just felt like it could have been so much more! The potential for Batman Begins mixed with Star Trek! I know it's not always good to criticize a movie for not being what it intentionally isn't, but with Green Lantern we have a below average movie that had enormous potential. My review:

2/4

The problem is that these plots are mutually exclusive. They rarely if ever intersect and when characters from one side appear in the other, they seem strangely out of place. For example, in the second act Hal Jordan saves Carol and Senator Robert Hammond at a gala in celebration of the success of the military’s new contract. No one acts shocked at the appearance of a Green Lantern. The fact that some seemingly alien being is flying around doing all kinds of unearthly things comes across as curiously commonplace. Hal flies off with Carol, but we never see what happens next. A couple of scenes later Carol is in her office again. It feels as if the entire set piece didn’t actually happen.

Yea that was HORRIBLE story telling and any disagreement to that is someone who doesnt understand how to craft a plot and probably cant even write out their day story without plot holes.

Abin Sur was the greatest warrior of them all and Hal Jordan defeated paralax in less than 10 mins? Abin Sur had mastered how not to fear as he was a master lantern. so how Hal Jordan, who is a **** up in his life in general, can conquer fear, which i thought all lanterns were supposed to have done anyway to even be consider elite lanterns (stupid plot hole and incoherent story telling), and suddenly be the mightiest and most cunning of them all to defeat a threat that killed several lanterns is STUPID STORY TELLING!!!!!

You are acting as if Hal took on Parallax full on. He didnt. Abin wasnt expecting to get attacked which is why he failed. The GL corps members failed because they tried taking on Parallax full force and it wasnt well thought out. Hal didnt engage Parallax in battle. He tricked him into following him into space and near the sun where Hal let the Sun do its thing. If any other Lantern had thought of it and could get Parallax to go after them they couldve done the same thing. So not like Hal is some great warrior now.

Just back from it. I thought it was okay. The problem with it is that it's a generic superhero film that follows the same tired boring formula we've seen a million times already.

This is simply not going to cut it with a B-List superhero. The reason why Marvel had success with Iron Man and Thor was because they played up to the strengths of the character and presented a unique take on the genre that we hadn't seen before.

Tony Stark was an egotistical yet endearing wanker, something we had never seen in the genre. Thor was at times buffoonish, aloof and arrogant. Yet at the same time, he had this great honourable and sincere charm, which again, was a pretty unique take on the genre.

But with GL, there is nothing special that makes Hal stand out. They had two things that could have really set Hal apart from other superheroes: the ring and this great wide galaxy. Both were underused, but when they were used, they were easily the best parts of the film.

I really find the WB-DC partnership to be shockingly incompetent. They dropped the ball big time here, just like they did with Jonah Hex, the abomination which is CINO and to a lesser extent Superman Returns. Their partnership needs a major shake up.

Secret Riddle,

Did we forget the part where are all the people at the party stopped and stared at Hal...and as he takes off, a woman records it on her cellphone.

Later, we hear about his heroics on the news.

This isn't some compelling stuff at all but to say there's no reaction to Hal's appearance as Lantern in the film is a lie. There was one. And Carol comments on it the next night when she thanks him...until realizing that it's actually Hal.

That's not the way the movie plays it. Did you forget about Sinestro's big speech at the end about how Hal proved himself to be the greatest Lantern who ever lived.

You really have to be stretching to argue that it's good because Hal wasn't heroic. What a lame excuse.

SO out of all the veteran Lanterns this new guy out smarted all the rest in how he chose to defeat paralax??!! come on. SMH very unrealistic even to its own universe. NO!!!! he was not that genius and he has never been considered as such so how is Sinestro and Abin gonna be out smarted?! Paralax wasnt even in full mode...he came to earth and charged up even double time after eating all those souls and still got defeated by a rookie who barely just learned how to use his ring? smh

I prefered Ang Lee's. It just needed more hulk time and no gamma dogs and should have ended with his battle against the military
