With KH3? That's the only one I played and I couldn't get through the first boss fight

Because of the plot or difficulty? I can tell you from my POV that in general, KH3 I think was by far the easiest one of the main games.

No Final Fantasy characters at all. The Disney Worlds are very lazily put together like Frozen and Tangled. Pete and Maleficent are pretty much there to lead us to the teaser for the next villain.

EDIT: Repetitive gameplay and yes you better have watched a comprehensive video of the narrative to get the entire story, especially the mobile game. That one is very important to the next arc.

Each game had different writers. Nomura is the main titles directors. Most blame is on him for delivering 3.
