The Official Man of Steel Blu Ray Thread

That left me curious and hopeful one day for an extended cut.

My hope as well. There seemed to be a lot missing, and others have mentioned more scenes that were supposedly filmed, but not in the movie.

Does anyone know if Snyder does extended editions? I don't really own any of his movies except 300.

He does. There's a Watchmen Director's Cut, as well as an Ultimate Edition.

Nice! I hope we get something like that before the release of the next movie.

I'm hoping for a newer edition with deleted scenes, maybe even inserted back in, because there is one deleted scene that maybe should've been in and replace a scene in the final cut, but only if it worked. That's the Kents taking infant Clark for a checkup when he is experiencing changes and he screams and that destroys the windows. I think if that is as good as I think it is, it could've replaced the senses flashback because it does the same job but the that flashback had some things I cringed at.

What made you cringe? I like that one.

I like it as well (plus, it was cool to see Clark use his X-ray vision power). The only thing that bugged me was the teacher's lack of discernment, as exemplified by her allowing the whole class to leave their seats and look on as she attempted to console Clark. They didn't need to be there.

Yeah...that was a bit much. No respectful teacher would do that. I would have just preferred they had the teacher and Martha there and have Clark hear the whispers from the kids while they are in the room. Having all the kids there was a bit too dramatic.

I was pretty impressed with the two young actors chosen for Clark though, so maybe that's why I didn't mind it so much. That scene where his eyes got rid gave me a real Damian vibe...lol.

You know what's even cooler about that scene? According to the Journey feature, that wasn't just Clark's x-ray vision. It included also infrared and electromagnetic vision. That's why there were different colors. It was several visions all at once.

Yeah, I got that too. The scene where Clark and Martha watch Zod's worldwide broadcast is also kind of eerie like something out of a horror movie.

Agreed.

I'll have to watch the Journey feature again. I missed that.

Good call. Another poster mentioned in another thread the scene where Clark starts to sink into the skulls. That was also really good. The Journey featured mentioned that in the scene his cape and costume were black like Zod's and I didn't even notice that until they mentioned it.

Well I definitely wouldn't mind seeing scene with the Kents and a baby Clark as well...

Especially since I can't remember the last time where we saw a live action take where the Kents found Clark when he was still a infant as opposed to a 3 year old toddler.

I doubt that there'll be much new footage (scene wise) for MOS since the only major scenes that were really cut from the film were the Kents taking a baby Clark to the hospital and Lois being interrogated by the military (before Superman had shown up).

From what I had noticed from watching the BTS features from MOS, it seems like Snyder just mainly trimmed down a lot of scenes, where he just took out moments from an ongoing scene in order for the film to be more well trimmed and tight.

I mean would seeing shots of Clark leaving the church or an extended shot of Lois running out of her apartment be that much of a difference maker?

Now if Snyder had filmed scenes that took place during the final act of the film, or anywhere in the 2nd half that were new scenes in general....namely character building scenes, then I think an extended cut would make a difference.

supposedly, the assembly cut was a 3 hr version of Man of Steel. whether that's true or not, im not entirely sure.
Thanks Kal! I would love a longer version. I just feel like there are some parts missing. I wouldn't be surprised if this is true.

That's interesting to know they did actually film Lois' interrogation scene. I actually would like to see that. I have also heard on the boards, so I'm not sure how true it is, that the Kryptonians have more lines in the movie leading up to the assault by the BZ and after announcing their arrival.

was there a scene where Faora n Nak-me exercised their muscle in Shanghai?

I think Goyer said on how that was supposedly in the original drafts, but they never filmed it because they (correctly) thought that there was already a lot of action going on in the second half of the film.

What are the stats on how the Blu Ray has sold? Is it doing BB type numbers, or what?

I loved the movie and even on first viewing it played pretty well to me, but one of the major complaints people had were that it seemed jumpy in the editing. My theory is that Snyder and co just had too much time with the movie. It was originally going to be released in December of last year. I think the crew became too "familiar" with the story and so they put on the screen all they needed to follow it. But it wasn't necessarily true for the general audience. Stories/movies need those in between moments to really flesh them out.

In the case of MoS it makes some scenes feel like the trailer version of the scene. For instance, the oil rig scene, I'm pretty sure that what made it to the movie was exactly what was in the trailer. They cut him hurtling himself up towards the rig, the cut him walking through the fire, the cut him making a path for the men to follow. All of those moments, while not necessary to convey the bare minimum of the story, would have fleshed the scene out and made it feel more complete. That is probably why so many people liked it better the second time they watched it; they knew the story so the could enjoy it even with the bare minimum being given to service the story.

A cut of the movie that has those in between moments for me would definitely worth buying another copy of the film. (TAKE MY MONEY WB!!!)

I would love to post this for you, but I wouldn't even know where to find it.

I think it's doing well. A lot of people I know who don't normally watch CBMs bought the movie because it was a Superman movie. He's got appeal like that since he's been around so long.

I put in MAN OF STEEL BLU RAY SALES into Google but the info is about stores that are selling MOS.

During the Chicago shoot, somebody posted a pic of a set sign which read: “Metropolis Will Rise Again.” Presumably, some shots of reconstruction were filmed (to be augmented with CGI?) for the scene of Clark bicycling into the city. This would have conveyed, I think, a better sense of the passage of time. However, these shots (if they exist) seem to have ended up on the cutting room floor.

I was kind of hoping that one of the special features was the screen test, with Cavill wearing the Reeves costume.

I hope they release that someday.
