X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

I don’t think there is an actor in Hollywood that can capture Gambit’s sex appeal, Tatum included. But I’ve been watching the remake/new show of Interview With The Vampire and this guy comes close:

Jacob Anderson is British but he nails that NOLA accent perfectly. I think he’d do Remy LeBeau justice.
Doesn't even look the part.

Hi.

Unrelated to the post.

You could have posted a picture of Zazie Beets as Domino, I would say the same.

There's nothing wrong with wanting the live action adaptation to look similar to the one drawn in the comics, especially the comics I have read for at least two decades. I have my own preference, you have yours. No need to hammer me about it.

Well, when you challenge someone's choice as not being comic accurate enough, folks will inevitably challenge you back. It's the nature of a discussion board and is likely going to be the way things go for awhile regarding this particular property.

He doesn't look the part. :o

Seriously tho, late 50s/early 60s is my ideal age for Xavier and Erik. So since we're still years away, we should be looking for people around 50s.
Precisely. Will be 58-59 by the time they get around to making the movie, in that sweet spot range.

I also think this is a great role for him to settle down into.

That's one thing I don't understand. People playing dumb, acting obtuse, pretending they don't know why this discussion surrounds this particular property.

But then again, people were going off on 'Watchmen' for being political. Media literacy is dying

Phase X (how I want Marvel Studios to roll out the mutants in the not so distant future)

2027: X-Men
2030: X-Men II
2033: X-Men III
2034: New Mutants
2036: X-Men IV
2037: New Mutants: United
2038: X-Force
2039: X-Men V
2040: New Mutants: The Last Stand
2041: X-Force 2
2042: X-Men VI
2043: X-Factor
2044: X-Force 3
2045: X-Men VII
2046: X-Factor Part II
2048: X-Men VIII
2049: X-Factor Part III
2051: X-Men IX
2052: X-Men X

So I'd adjusted my eXpectation for the gap between sequels as 2 years isn't realistic. But 3 years should still be possible even if Marvel Studios is making movies for 50 ips. 2027 to 2052 is 25 years, still realistic as we are still seeing Hugh Jackman as the Wolverine 24 years after 20th Century FoX's X-Men.

Then when including the splinter teams I want to get a feature film and the sequel is every 3 years, it turned out there's a new Mutant film to 2036 onwards. Its unlikely to happen but whatever.

For Disney+ I want Marvel Studios' Special Presentation for solo films. I don't want to see a Xeries that could easily trimmed down to 2 hrs or less. Plus that way, it'd be faster for every X-Men to get a solo project as opposed to a siX episode Xeries.

Not after that slap.
Oh, please spare me. Plenty of celebs in Hollywood have done FAR worse and continue to have careers in the industry. Some of these people are entire sexual predators still winning awards and having fans. I'm not going to hold a lapse in judgement against Will Smith forever after he maintained a very clean life for over 30 years and has apologized several times at this point. Nobody is perfect and people need to move the hell on.

That aside, Will Smith is a very competent actor. But I don't see him as Professor Xavier. Same with Morgan Freeman.

He doesn't look the part as well but I didn't want to repeat myself. But I also don't want to see him in something like Marvel Studios' X-Men after that slap.

If Marvel can cast Bill Murray then they certainly shouldn’t have any issue casting Will Smith (though I’d prefer he come back as Deadshot).

Can't see Will Smith as Xavier. Still seems too young for an old Xavier, even though he’s in his 50s. Esposito is still my first pick and has more natural gravitas IMO.

I’d rather they gave Murray, Lilly and Wright the boot.

I constantly forget Lilly exists. But yeah, I only mention Murray because a lot of his controversies pre-dated his Marvel casting.

yeah no thanks on Will Smith, not because of the slap but just because he comes off as a weird dead-behind-the-eyes robot irl.

and i'll keep mr bill murrays thank you very much

Yeah, when the controversies are there before casting then it should be a much easier decision. The MCU has tons of projects and there are plenty who can capably fill in for anyone who steps too far out of line. I’m not boycotting any of these projects (Flash is the only one I’ve ever got to that stage with) but I’d prefer if the stars of my films could either behave better or at the very least keep their mouths shut or even just quieter on certain issues, so I can pay to watch them without feeling sick!

I have Will Smith down as a very good actor, just doesn’t feel right for Xavier. Could have been fine for many other, more active CBM roles.
