X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

Oh my stars and garters!

I'm just happy she's game for the X-Men side of things when the MCU starts rolling them out lol.

LOL. @Shinobi Shaw is going to have a seizure. :hehe:

I remember a while back some posters here insisting that we'd never see Jackman as Wolverine again.

"Hugh said he's done! Hugh said he's done!"

If this is indeed the last time we ever see him as Wolvie I'll eat my shoes...

I remember that as well.

I think we as fans tend to forget that this is show business, and you can never say never.

Hopefully this multiverse / recycling actors in the same Marvel role, from non mcu films are over after The Multiverse Saga.

Now time will tell if anyone else from foX-Men, The New Mutants, Eric Bana, the two guys that played The Punisher, Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Nicholas Cage, Welsey Snipes and the actors from the previous FF films would return for Secret Wars. Can you imagine if Chris Evans and MBJ returned as the Human Torch.

I think Jackman coming back means we won’t ever see an official 616 MCU Wolverine. At least not for a long time.

It wouldn't surprise me if they're just planning to use X-23 instead. They can have her find out she's a clone later on down the line (probably like 10 or 15 years from now at this point) and that's when they'll introduce 616 Wolverine.

I wouldn't mind cameos from the old Fox-Men actors in the MCU from time to time - particularly in something like Secret Wars - but I don't want any of them returning full time to a new X-Men franchise, and that includes Jackman. We need new blood for the MCU mutants...

I can see Marvel keeping Jackman around the MCU as a mentor or something like that. Maybe have him trapped in the 616 Universe after the events of Secret Wars. Have him mentor X-23. I can live with that.

But i don't want Hugh as the 'official' MCU Wolverine. Recast the role and let's get a new Logan for the new franchise.
Honestly, I won't be entirely shocked if they make X-23/Laura the main Wolverine in the MCU. Bringing Jackman back, esp as a more comic accurate Wolverine, is antithetical to prepping audiences for a reboot.

It's a double-edged sword. I think there's a pretty good chance Dafne Keen returns

@Marvel united I've been thinking the same thing. Jackman's return completely undermines any recast.

If they were planning on introducing a new Logan, the last thing Feige would want is to remind the audience of Jackman's iconic portrayal. Something's up.

One of the things Jackman's return, says to me , is that there may indeed be some meat behind the report that they Marvel Studios won't be able to recast the role's until the Fox contracts run out.

I could see Feige and Marvel not wanting to sit on such valuable ips and characters such as Wolverine, for several years before exploiting them.

We, the audience, would basically have to wait until the middle ,to the end of the decade, before we would see a character like Wolverine if they were to wait to recast.

So , I could see Feige and Marvel / Disney , feeling that it's worth it to bring back some characters/ actors like Jackman's Wolverine, and then eventually ,casting 616 versions them after the
Secret Wars, multiverse storylines.

That may not be what alot of fans are hoping for, but that's what I think could happen.

But just I'm spit balling and not saying it's a certainty .

It's not entirely bad tho. Dafne Keen was amazing in the role, and she's ripe to continue as Laura for a very long time. It would be a waste not to utilize her in this Multiverse era.

It could also open up some very interesting, fresh storytelling possibilities too. The very existence of Jackman begs the question of whether an "MCU Wolverine" exists. I could see the MCU-616 Logan being an urban legend, and Dafne's Laura searching for him.

Maybe 616 Wolverine is currently locked away in some blacksite somewhere. "The search for Wolverine"

Good points guys.

And admittedly, it would be fun to see Jackman's version of Logan interacting with established MCU characters like Holland's Spider-Man, Downey's Iron Man (c'mon, we all know his return is an inevitability), Brie's Captain Marvel, etc etc etc. There's no guarantee that whoever replaces Hugh will have anywhere near his charisma or charm in the role...

And if it comes right down to it, I think I'd prefer to see X-23 instead of Hugh as the Wolverine surrogate in the MCU-616. Bringing back Jackman on a full-time basis just seems like such a cop out somehow, though I certainly understand the impulse from a commercial point of view...

Great if Dafne Keene can be recruited into the MCU for the long term. I don’t mind Jackman having a bit of fun in Deadpool and putting in a performance in Secret Wars. Hopefully from Phase 7 onwards the X-Men can go big and it’s also time for our long term Logan for the future.

I wouldn't mind Jackman being our main MCU Wolverine. They've already told his origin a dozen times on film, so introducing a new Wolverine may feel like a retread, and that could create a similar problem that The Amazing Spider-Man had.

Instead of a new young MCU Wolverine, they can introduce the likes of Daken or Laura, with Jackman as the senior.

I still think X-23/Wolverine is a job for one lady in particular:

But yeah I agree with @Frodo they probably have to honor the Fox contracts until 20whatever.
Not you disrespecting Dafne Keen

But in all seriousness, I think there are gonna be some consequences following the events of Secret Wars. Fox mutants getting stranded/transported to the MCU being one of them

Yeah I don't even want Wolverine in the first X-Men and don't want to introduce X-23 until the new Logan has been well established. That's going to take years. Also, I see X-23 as a teenage character. I see people suggesting someone like Amber Midthunder who is 25 now and will be in her 30s before I think the franchise can introduce the character.

Amber Midthunder would be good for other CBM roles if it’s too late to cast her for X-23. That might be best anyway if they want Dafoe and she’s available. Will be good to get them both in there.

Nah to Jackman being MCU Wolverine.

I mean look, we're in the midst of this Multiverse Saga of the MCU where they're using nostalgia to drive people to the box office, which I'm not mad at. We knew Deadpool would be arriving in the MCU somehow and if he has to use some remnants of the Foxverse to usher him in, cool.

But let Jackman be a one and done. It's time for new blood.

Bro, I'm still high off Prey. Midthunder would kill it as MCU Laura.

As for the bolded, I don't even think that to be honest. If anything and just thinking about the 2015 Secret Wars, all those universes like the Fox mutants one, might hit an incursion and create Battleworld, until it's just the mainline MCU left.

Recasting Wolverine was always going to be an uphill battle. The only thing going for it was it would have been a decade plus removed since Logan.

Now that Jackman's coming back and everyone will fall in love with his already iconic portrayal, I'm almost certain audiences will reject any new actor in the role.
