X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

I would love to see Scott’s x-factor costume in live action. I loved the new x-men era but honestly I’m happy with keeping that for later

I don't want the same looking costumes anymore for the X-Men in the movies. We've already had two decades of those.

Also those X-Factor costumes with the big X sucked as well.

Mix between 90 era and San Francico (Utopia) era
I love the Utopia (San Francisco era iirc) costumes.

The TAS costumes + 2004 to pre-Schism would be a nice combo.

I love Polaris' green costume both in 2005 and Rise/Fall of Shiar Empire era.

What ways could they tie mutants into the MCU tineline/canon?

If they keep the holocaust origin for Magneto, its obvious to tie that into Captain America: First Avenger World War II and have Steve be the guy who liberated Erik from his camp. Likewise, Wolverine meeting Cap during WWII.

Magneto and Juggernaut's helmets being made out of Vibranium, which could explain why they can block telepathy.

Hm, I don’t know if they’ll do anything that edgy. Like, having captain America in a concentration camp is kind of a lot and probably more than marvel’s bubblegum image would be prepared to do.

I could see Sokovia being taken over and renamed Latveria. Not so sure about more x-men specific stuff

I don't think they'll keep Magneto's Holocaust origin in the MCU, if he's rebooted. Magneto would be introduced way too late in the MCU. If they kept it, he would be already a centenarian by late 2020s.

X-Men Evolution already did it, and that was a literal kids cartoon.

Its the MCU, so there is a lot of comic book science to explain that if they want to go down that route.

Oh God! I hope no

We can find a way to keep him 70yo in 2020's. Nothing is impossible with MCU.
In comics Original Nick Fury kept his 40 yo physical appearance until nowadays because he took something magic. For Magneto, do everything you want but we have to keep his holocaust background
in Fox movies (10005) he has 93yo in 2023

Nick Fury is not a good comparison as the youngest we saw Fury in the MCU, was in the 90s...

How can you showcase Magneto in the 1930s or the 1940s, who won't be more or less 100 years in the late 2020s to 2030s, without doing a time travel or giving him fountain of Youth mutation?

Why would Hugh continuing to play Wolverine keep Wolverine out of the X-Men movies? Unless they are going to keep the multiverse **** going after Secret Wars.

I think it's just the first movie, I don't think he means all X-Men movies from here on out.

Well if that's true, then we won't worry about the Wolverine taking so much screentime from everyone!

I hope it's true. Let's see how well an X-Men performs without Wolverine. I can't wait. :funny:

It would be weird to see Jackman standing alongside yet another recast of the X-Men, yes, but I still want Wolverine included—just not as the main character.

Hopefully because they understand that the reboot needs to stand on its own and that Jackman wouldn't have the same connection with a fully rebooted cast anyway. And hopefully they understand that people will get sick of him (even in general audiences) if they literally make him the star of everything simultaneously - better to save him for the big event movies (ie, Avengers) and maybe an occassional cameo or small supporting role. Plus, putting him in twice as many films would probably break their budgetary reserves, anyway.

I would prefer they let Jackman actually retire, but since that's clearly not going to happen after D&W I'm honestly happy about this (assuming it's true).

Make Jackman an Avenger and a wandering ronin hero across the MCU. Keep his association with the new X-men to a minimum. That's the only acceptable blueprint for keeping him around indefinitely.

Preferrably also make Dafne Keen part of the new X-men in his place. She's great; we haven't seen nearly enough of her - and that also means she's new enough to not stand out like a sore thumb alongside an otherwise rebooted cast (unlike Jackman); she can provide the iconography of Wolverine without retreading the exact same ground Jackman already covered; and her connection to him is the perfect excuse to give him (and hold him to) the occassional small supporting role/cameo so that X-men films can benefit from his name recognition without becoming the ten millionth encore of the Hugh Jackman show.

I still think Hugh Jackman, Ryan Reynolds and those actors who were originally in other Marvel franchises should be done after Secret Wars.

But looks like, the MCU is fully taking custody of the two key figures of Foxverse for the long run, til they are 90.

The next saga after the Multiverse Saga, should be easier to follow similar to the Infinity Saga, especially when they finally reboot the X-Men. I don't want to wait for a new X-Men every 4 years, because Marvel Studios is making movies for 12 other ips...

So, realistically, we think we're keeping Jackman, Reynolds, and Keen, right?

I could be on board with Laura / X-23 being a student at Xavier's with the other X-Men. Jackman's Wolverine as a mentor a la X-Men Evolution. He's there for the big stuff, but otherwise doing his own thing (or teaming with Deadpool & X-Factor?).

The question then becomes who do you bring on for Xavier and Magneto. Obviously Stewart and McKellen are not viable options (beyond Secret Wars) but would MCU consider McAvoy and Fassbender? They're both nearing 50--age-wise, they'd be fine standing amongst a cast of 20-25 year old X-Men actors.

Are there any other actors worth considering? Maybe Anya Taylor Joy as Magik?

maybe we just shouldn't have an Xavier again... have it that the school is now run by the Cyclops and the OG team as teachers

an focus mostly on new young recruits

I would love to see Joy as Magik again (and Williams as Wolfsbane). And I won't say McAvoy or Fassbender were at all bad. But (outside of the Deadpool movies which should be free to do pretty much whatever they want) there really should be as few holdovers post Secret Wars as possible. I really don't think it should be anyone other than Jackman and Keene - and even those two *only* because the shareholders almost certainly won't take no for an answer on Jackman.

Even though I wish we get new blood everywhere but it's clear that the MCU isn't opposed to cherry-picking and at this point it's something we all have to accept.

Having said that, if they gave him a white wig and comic accurate writing, I wouldn't be opposed to Fassy coming back as Magneto.
