X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

"...wrestling with their identity and place in the world" doesn't sound like they're milquetoasting the X-Men.

exactly. Its the core of the x-men, not fitting in the world outside. This is a social issue after all. People that are and feel different and dont feel they belong in the society. So they end being like outsiders somehow.

Sound like the X-Men to me.
Those who have watched all Schreier movies would know he has what it takes to handle the X-Men. He has talent and care about the emotions and conflicts of the characters. Most of his projects the characters or lead characters have an existential conflict, so... he is a good choice for the X-Men.

Schreier has also crafted the most emotionally sincere movie after Gunn's Guardians Trilogy, so I have faith in what he's gonna do with the X-Men.

Its been siX long years since the last X-Men movie came out in 2019!!!

Sometimes I get impatient. I just miss seeing a new X-Men movie in the cinemas. Marvel Studios really should have given us one more X-Men film with the OT cast before Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Well, Deadpool & Wolverine was an X-Men (adjacent) movie

I think Schreier's quote is just fine

But yeah, Feige's quote was more worrying

Y'all say there's a reason there's always a next generation of X-Men, but I say there's a reason those books always end up floundering and getting cancelled. Hell, even the Original X-Men was all but cancelled before Giant Size came along. Not many people care about teen X-Men.

I got into the X-men as a child in the 90's, and all my favorite characters were adults. I didn't need them to be kids to like them, relate to them, for their stories to resonate.

So if they want to cast a little younger, so the actors can stay young looking for the next decade of Marvel movies, then fine. But don't go for teenagers and make us suffer through a bunch of terrible acting just to try to appeal to kids.

Kids in 2008 latched on to Iron Man, and motherf***er was in his 40's ... (and goddam, I can't believe I'm approaching RDJ in Iron Man 1 age)

I hope they have a roadmap to release a new X-Men movie every 2 years, similar to the Home trilogy.

2028-2030-2032

You never told a lie.

they can easily have 2-3 teen X-Men as the point of view, with the rest of the team as adults (28-31).

Most actors around 30 years old look excelent and young looking, so I dont see any real problem signing many of current rising stars that are getting close or already are 30 years old. most of them are fresh faces that general audience is starting to meet, so..... why not?

its not like Marvel is planning to do a Harry potter type of franchise, starting with kids, right? so no need to start really young. A good balance should be the approach for the reboot, imo.

It's Xavier's SCHOOL after all

New Mutants weren't cancelled. Hijacked, but not cancelled. Gen X ran 70 issues. New X-Men almost 50. After that, publishing changes have sort of killed long runs.

****ing Bendis wanted to do teen O5.

And honestly, given the demo issues we are seeing, they would be dumb not to try to bring in a more younger audience.

yeah, and they can have some teen students, while the rest "were students years ago".

If X-Men TAS and X-Men 97 have done that and general audience and fans were happy about those shows.... why does the reboot need to change that?
"it it aint broke, dont fix it" they say

It does since they didn’t mention bigotry or prejudice. That quote could just as easily come from Hillbilly Elegy as anything about civil rights. A quote like that could easily fit for the MAGA crowd who think masculinity is under threat etc.

Obviously any x-men pitch that tries to reach the other side just can’t work because the x-men are very not about that. Right now sorry but there’s nothing yet that implies this is something other than avengers with an x-men skin

Y'all get it.

Nothing that indicates the opposite, either. It's quite disingenuous to just decide to interpret a quote like that purely based on your own bias and negativity .

Wait this one out, maybe.

Feige's kowtowing to the CCP and the MULITIPLE issues of MAGA interference at Pixar are my basis.

Given the current landscape of international box office that saw a massive sudden decline of interest for Superhero movies in the past few years, I think it would be wise for Kevin to not worrying whether his movies will be accepted in China or not anymore (the last time they did that, they failed big...*looking at you, Shang-Chi! lol)...
And also, F4 and also Superman, both had good reviews and they bombed in China, regardless.
Instead I hope, be loose on making the X-Men...whether its pure action adventure fun romp (like Joss Whedon's or Kieron Gillen's run) or more political-allegory heavy romp (like TWS or BNW)
Either way, I'm excited!

Yeah, I am more worried about him kowtowing to a more local regime. Which the parent company already gladly paid a very public bribe to.

one thing many fans should be sure about:
Marvel Studios X-Men film wont be like Bryan Singer X-Men movies. for good or bad.

It will be a different approach, with other stuff Fox never did, and obviously wont be a retread of the same type of scenes Bryan and co. did between X1-Apocalypse. So we all just have to wait and see, and enjoy the new version/tone with the fresh approach from Schreier/Feige/Disney.
if some fans want the same tone/approach of Bryan Singer, we have those movies at home. If we love the X-Men 97 style, we have 2 full shows (old and new). The Marvel Studios reboot will be its own thing, so will be very interesting, no doubt.

I really don't want to see Cyclops, Storm and Rogue as seniors of Rogue. I hope they get it right who's older generation and younger.

I hope they use the X-Men cartoon theme song for the theme.

A blend between the animated theme and John Ottman's theme infused with new theme to give its own identity (like the new Superman theme) would be ideal, imo
