X-Men The Official MCU X-Men News and Discussion Thread

Riverdale actors on the x-men reboot would be my worst nightmare :dizzy: :fever:

no shade to any of them, but it would cheapen the reboot so badly. Marvel studios and their main casting director can do much better with the cast.

Yeah, can't have an actor who has had "questionable" work in their history work to cheapen the pool of talent in the MCU. /s

I know why you say that (Robert D. Jr. and all)......... but let me be just honest:

I dont like Riverdale or CW actors. So I dont want any of them playing my fave characters ever for the next 2 decades.

A lot of big actors had rather not great starts. A lot of the actors on Riverdale have potential.

I think we should expect the 97 theme as, like, “the” x-men theme. I mean it is pretty catchy and they do want to rely on nostalgia.

Just don’t do a sad version like in the cartoon because that didn’t sound so good.

Or do what Gunn did with Superman and sample it with a guitar riff or something

Kind of like this?

OK, I have a new working theory for Doomsday. Some people might love it, others might hate it — but here goes:

We know the MCU’s 616 Universe. We’ve spent almost 20 years there. Now we’ve just been introduced to the Fantastic Four’s 828 “Retro Future” Universe — a world that stands out with its fresh, distinctive aesthetic.

So… what about the X-Men’s universe? What makes it different from what we’ve already seen? What makes it feel unique?

My pitch: Krakoa.

Think about it — we’ve had 20 years of Fox X-Men movies set in our world. They were mostly small-scale, grounded, and realistic. The powers were toned down, and there was very little sense of fantasy. But what if we flipped that? Imagine a thriving, utopian mutant nation — a paradise where mutants live free and happy… until they’re forced to fight for survival.

This instantly sets these X-Men — played by the Fox actors — apart from the MCU’s eventual X-Men, who could lean more into the TAS/comic book style.

I personally wouldn't mind but gor after Secret Wars. I was a big fan of Krakoa and if there using Secret Wars to somehow say hey mutants are here, then sure whatever lol. I just hope if they do that, they don't try to go to extermination levels and take it away like the comics did.

It’s interesting that killed krakoa for the mcu so if the mcu is what brings krakoa back I will literally kiss Feige’s ass.

And you’re right, that would instantly give the franchise a boost we haven’t seen in the last one.

I literally have my copy of HoXPoX next to me.

I reckon the reverse would happen though, the mcu x-men would do krakoa and the fox verse ones will do the TAS thing as a final send off

I dont see Feige/the Russo changing the world of Fox X-Men only for this movie, it would be too much all at once. The good thing of this film, imo, is to see each world we are familiar with, just as they were presented (616, Fantastic4 universe and Fox universe as we know and love)

Once they do the reboot, they can change and do a fresh take as they want. but for Doomsday, it should be all familiar worlds and places, imo. This way, it would really feel like a continuation from X3/Dofp.... and it would feel more special this way, at least to me. Like a half sequel to Dofp last scene. We the fans deserved a continuation, and Feige is finally giving it to us (since Fox never cared to give it to us theirself)

I'd take Utopia over Krakoa

A Militarized X-Men protecting themselves on an island is fine, but I wasn't into the weird alien island where mass murderers were welcomed with open arms and death had no meaning (even moreso than usual in comics)

I feel like there’s probably enough pro military stuff in the mcu already

A lot of them suck as actors or are aggressively mediocre and were only cast for their look. I ain't mad at it. That's just the nature of the industry. But I wouldn't want most of them to touch the X-Men either. Marvel has been PHENOMENAL at casting thus far and I'm confident they can do better.

Also, are you  always so relentlessly negative about the MCU? If so, I'm genuinely surprised you even care enough about this reboot to comment.

I am an X-men fan more than an MCU fan. The MCU had sort of started to lose me quite a while ago, cumulating in my... controversial opinion on Infinity War. China and the CCP was always a concern for me when it came to X-men, as you can screw up the metaphor when you try to appease the censors. But now, Disney has shown all signs of trying to gain favor of the current US regime, my optimism is at a bit of a low point.

I am not saying the MCU X-men movie is going to be bad. Schrier is likely to make a solid movie. But I question whether it will be allowed to have the true heart of an X-men film. People throw out adventure stuff and soap drama stuff as key to the X-men, but if you don't do the core message of the X-men first, it ain't the X-men.

I just need her to be Storm:

And her to be Psylocke:

And I'll be a happy camper. Sorta.

Cyclops: Tom Blyth, 30
Rogue: Mikey Madison, 26
Gambit: Austin Butler, 33
Storm: Jayme Lawson, 27
Psylocke: Anna Sawai, 33
Beast: Jesse Plemons, 37
Charles Xavier: Ewan McGregor, 54

Save Jean for the sequel. Include a line of dialogue with either Storm or Beast asking Scott if he’s talked to her lately. It nods to their history, suggests she was once a student, and hints at something unresolved. That one moment sets her apart from the Fox adaptation— maybe she’s not the poster child of Xavier’s dream like Scott is. Not suggesting anything radical like Mystique in the Fox films or that she’s started/joined the Brotherhood, but just a Jean that needed to leave the mansion to see the world beyond its gates.

Maybe she’s working with a crew over on Muir Island to be introduced in a sequel. Banshee, Colossus, & Nightcrawler off the top of my head. Kitty Pryde is a US tourist traveling abroad that gets caught up in some crazy Muir Island / Proteus drama.

I hope Jake Schrier will do a great job, just like Matt Shakman did for the Fantastic 4 reboot.

Another X-Men movie is way overdue!

I don't know about those casting choices.

But I would relieved if we don't get teenagers and early 20s for Cyclops, Jean, Storm, etc.

Yeah there’s plenty of directions to go, but I’m hoping for an “older” cast too, with an implied larger history to the mutants’ corner of the MCU.

For Rogue, I’m envisioning her as essentially a co-lead. Like X-Men ‘97 and so many other X-stories, I’d have her questioning the X-Men & join up with the Brotherhood (or at least consider it) before an Act III come-to-her-senses moment. That’s why I think Mikey Madison would be a great pick to deliver that emotional arc.

Gambit would be her love interest & a foil/challenge to Scott’s role as leader. Beast is comedic relief & science exposition. Psylocke is cool action sequences & necessary telepath stuff to advance the plot along. And Storm would be Scott’s second-in-command & voice of reason.
