Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Late pre orders and late console price/launch date announcement is the future of gaming!

I find it hard to preorder something for which I don't know the price. Just saying Sony. ;)
Day 1: Congratulations, you are one of the lucky ones who have successfully ordered your next gen console!
Day 2: Please forward $500 now with the balance of $499.99 to be paid on release date! :D

I'm unsure of which place i'll be pre ordering this at. I'm considering Gamestop only because I know this will be the last generation they'll be around for.

and there will be some people out there who will gladly say "Shut up and take my money!" :o

I've always had good experiences with my Gamestop, and I have many fond memories of going to Electronics Boutique as a kid. So, I hope Gamestop sticks around beyond next generation, though I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't

With that being said, I'll be preordering the console (PS5 or Series X) from Best Buy because I have enough gift cards and reward points saved up to pay for at least have of the console. I'll probably preorder the games at Gamestop since I have credit there, too.

I'm also considering Best Buy. My question is can we put down a payment of say $200 for the pre order and pay the full thing at launch? I'm pretty certain we can but not entirely sure

I'm not sure. I've never preordered a console from Best Buy before.

I do preorder games from Best Buy, and I know if you preorder online, you have to pay the full price up launch (think they charge your card when it ships, though not 100% sure). In the past, I did preorder games in store, and that way, I was able to put a certain amount down to preorder, then pay the rest off at pickup. Not sure if they still do that, though, as I haven't preordered a game in store at Best Buy for years.

So, maybe if you preorder the console in story at Best Buy, you could put some money down to preorder then pay the rest off at pickup. However, I would definitely contact the store to make sure they do that.

And for Gamestop, I think it's the same thing. When preordering games online, I have to pay full price at preorder. When preordering in store, I can put down min $5 to preorder the game, then pay the rest off at pickup. I can even keep putting more money down towards the game periodically until launch or until it's paid off. So, that sometimes helps. However, again, I don't know if you can do this with console preorders.

And also, given the demand and limited supply, I'd expect these preorders to go fast once they go live. So, ordering online may be your best bet if you want to secure your preorder. You may not have a chance to get to the store to preorder.

So, during Gamescom, the devs just confirmed that Ratchet will be a "launch window" game for PS5!!

how exactly long that window is, they wouldn't say. I could see maybe March 2021 by the latest.

But this is a big game for PS5 to have during their launch window! And it would be extremely huge if it launched day and date with the PS5!

What I'm thinking is they had that awesome gameplay but its not releasing at the same day as the Ps5? Thats weird, this and Miles Morales could be a marketing duo force for the ps5 buyers. But I guess they are probably going to spread out these high profiled eXclusives and not release them in the same week.

Getting both Ratchet and Miles Morales as day-one launch titles would definitely be a double knockout-blow against Xbox. With Halo, the Series X might have been able to withstand that. But now, without Halo, Series X is in even more of a vulnerable spot.

Even if Miles releases on launch, and Ratchet a month or two later, that's still more early EXCLUSIVE content that the Series X is lacking. Unless Xbox has some secret launch game up their sleeves. If they do, they sure as heck better hurry and show that. Cause it's possible Sony still has a surprise or two up its sleeves, as well.

And I can see why Sony might want to stagger Miles and Ratchet because both titles are made by Insomniac. I don't recall a time where one game studio released multiple launch titles, but I could be wrong.

Another thing the Ratchet demo highlighted, as well as the COD reveal which said "footage from a PS5," is that we STILL haven't seen any direct footage of games running on the Series X!! Which is frankly shocking.

They have Senua 2 which they could have fast tracked for this year. I'm not sure if Senua was a big hit to the masses, but the first game is pretty popular in the gaming community.

Xbox should really have prepared an impressive launch line up (you know games that aren't on other platforms - Pc, xb1, ps4, ps5) after the sales of Xbox One. I'm intrigued by their future, as imo, its really going to be obselete five years now if the sales are lower compare to Xbox One and we would all lookback at these things as reasons for their downfall. I just can't see how Microsoft could continue to pump out games for Xbox consoles if the sales aren't really there and Microsoft has games coming out in pc. At some point, they might need to ditch the less successful platform. Wii U and Vita died and were replaced by Switch and vr replaced respectively. I see their game pass as its replacement but the new console imo, won't be around very long. Their game pass sounds impressive but thats accessible to Pc and the xbox controller isnow being used for mobile phones (I'm assuming the console is still on) but still. I feel like these things that Microsoft are doing isn't doing the Xbox consoles any favor. The next several months are going to be interesting.

According to this (How Do PS5 And Xbox Series X's Current Launch Lineups Compare To Previous Generations?) Xbox One had more launcb eXclusives than Ps4. Ps4 had Knack and Killzone. But Xbox One's eXclusives needed a kinect.

Its weird. Even with backwards compatibility of the Xbox one, ps4 still doubled the sales of Xbox one. Imagine if Sony was/is generous to give backwards compatibility to both ps4/ps5 with the entire Playstation catalogue and if Sony didn't also venture with Ps vita/Ps vr and only focused on their home consoles.

Hellblade 2 will, most likely, be a big and visually impressive title for Xbox. However, it's my understanding that it will be running on Unreal Engine 5, and they won't be making the switch to that engine until early next year. So, again, Hellblade 2 is another game on Xbox that is likely some years away.

It would be a whole different story if Hellblade 2, or Avowed, or Fable, or Killer Instinct 2, or something else had been ready for the Series X launch. But it seems they put all their eggs into one basket (Halo Infinite) which is never a smart move.......lol.

And yeah, I can totally see this Series X/S as being the last traditional Xbox console if the sales just aren't there next gen. I mean, there's no way to sugarcoat it. Xbox One got its a** kicked by PS4 this gen, and if that repeats itself next gen, then I wouldn't be surprised if MS exits the console space to just focus on services like Game Pass and XCloud and as a publisher of games like Sega.

I mean, they are already laying the groundworks for that with the focus on Games Pass and XCloud. And, MS has a pattern and history of abandoning ventures that don't sell well (Zune, Windows Phone, Mixer, etc.).

At the very least, if MS stays in the console business, then the next Xbox after Series X/S could take on a very different form. Such as a small streaming stick device like a Roku or Fire device that plugs into the tv and just streams games via Games Pass and Xcloud.

And speaking of backwards compat, Sony could really deliver a true knockout blow if the PS5 has full BC with ALL prior gens of Playstation.

I know, for me at least, that would absolutely seal the deal for me and ensure that I get a PS5 day one. There are still a few games from the PS3/360 era (like Dragon Age Origins and Batman Arkham Origins) that I would love to play again or finish. And that's one area where Xbox does have the advantage over PS in regards to the breadth of their BC feature.

Ideally, I would like to have one console that could play games from across all the gens of a console family. And ideally, I do NOT want to have to buy an Xbox console to play those old games on one machine.

Worst case, I guess I could buy a PS3 and/or a PS2 to be able to play all old PS games if the PS5 is only BC with PS4. But I don't really want to own so many consoles nor do I have the cabinet space for all of them.......lol.

I'm only hoping through online updates, all ps4 games/discs will be playable through ps5. As for the ps1-ps3 games that weren't rereleased/remade I'm not expecting. But I would love it if they surprise us. I want to play Assassin's Creed 2007, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Arkham Origins, Grand Theft Auto 4, Red Dead Redemption and those Mass Effect games... basically games that I didnt get to play in the ps3 era because I didn't have a ps3.

I'll be picking up SPider-Man Miles Morales on launch day, but I'm gonna be all the way in on Cyberpunk at that time haha. So Cyberpunk will essentially be the first game I put into my PS5 haha.

I'm looking forward to Cyberpunk, too. And, I was kind of treating that as a PS5 "launch" title.

However, the one thing about that I'm not sure of is exactly when are we getting the next-gen upgrade patch? I've heard some say that won't come until next year, which kind of dampens my desire to play it now at launch.

If I'm going to play it, I want to experience it in its full next-gen glory.....haha.

hopefully full BC will be a surprise announcement from Sony in the coming months.

Also, hearing that the new Call of Duty game lets you create your own character for the campaign has got me more interested in COD. Even though I'm not a big COD or FPS fan. But, like Cyberpunk, I always enjoy games where you can create your own character.

So, I may very well treat COD as a launch title for the PS5.

The gameplay for Call of Duty looks great, well the one in the teaser, I'm not sure. I'm not interested in fps but the more games with that level of graphics the better. Resident Evil is already there and I'm expecting Resident Evil 4 to be twice more photo realistic when it comes out in 2022 or 2023. Ubisoft always improves with their graphics, so I'm expecting the next game after Valhalla to look significantly better (specifically the character models). Like I expect a jump similar Black Flag to Unity when it comes to the graphics.

I'm also really curious how the next games from Rockstar and Naughty Dog will look like especially if the games are set in a lively city. Can't wait to see how graphics evolve in the next five years and I'm hoping for more single player campaigns. I just can't get into multiplayer/online games especially the ones with the cartoony graphics like Fortnite/Overwatch/Minecraft and those are some of the biggest games in the last ten years. And They just don't appeal to me.

I can understand some art style may not be "good looking" enough for some, but wanting photorealistic graphics for all games would make them monotonous as hell.

Not every game has to look like Minecraft, or Flight Sim 2020. Variety is good.

I'm not asking for ALL games to have photo realistic, thats just not realistic. I said I want more photo realistic games. do you even read clearly everytime you disagree with everything I've said. Clearly you didn't, once again, Just like when i voiced my opinion about not being into first person games. Then you turned it something else. I'm talking about my preference, what I want to see, not what the gaming industry should do. I'm not suggesting Mario/Fall Guys to look photo realistic. You really sound combative, its best you put me on ignore because you really boil my blood everytime you comment on my posts. This was becoming my fav part of the forum, until you started chiming in and twisting my posts and completely s*** on it.

And actually the more fps/multiplayer games without a story campaign/games with cartoony games are released in the market - the more likely its going to save me money as I won't be tempted to buy every new game. So its actually good for me, financially.
