Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

Even with the new tech, I just don't see why a Ps5 should really be more expensive than 399. Ps4 is way cheaper than a ps3 (especially if you adjust the prices). Like laptop and smart phone and even professional cameras are cheaper now... so its just natural and fitting that game consoles are cheaper in today's market.

I would just be disappointed if Ps5 trails behind ps4 (the way ps3 did compare to ps2) because of launch prices. Are they going to repeat history again because they can't price it @ 399? Like I know I can afford a 500 dollar console, I'll get that extra 100 dollars in a month as I don't buy a lotof stuff, but most of the gp, just don't invest to gaming consoles especially the eXpensive ones and you can now play games for free in mobile phones and pcs.

So yeah Sony better be prepared if they don't undercut Xbox and if they dare to sell them at a higher price. We live in a pandemic. Give the public a reason to pick up these new consoles in November or the next two years.

Pax Online x EGX kicks off next week with a huge slate of scheduled live streams and panels to fill out the calendar. One curious entry appears on the main PAX channel for September 18th at 3:45 pm PST/6:45 pm EST, labeled simply “Sony Holder.” There’s nothing in the description yet, and Sony hasn’t commented about participating in PAX Online. The slot reserves an hour for the Sony live stream, the last stream on the schedule for September 18th. Speculation holds that this could be where Sony finally reveals the PS5 price and release date, as well as when preorders will open up for the console expected to release in just two months.

With this show and now their just announced show for this Wednesday, it could be a one-two punch from Sony!

They said "one more look at some of the great games coming to PS5 at launch (and beyond)."

Wonder if they will reveal new games? Also, hope to get a feature breakdown of the PS5. If there are any announcements regarding BC, now is the time to do it.

Sony is doing a show on the 16th and 18th? So maybe on the 16th we will get first Spider-Man mm game play and see silent hill if rumors about that are true and system price and release date than maybe the 18th we will get system tear down and look at system features and UI?

Yes. They have their own show on the 16th and then a show at PAX on the 18th it seems. Unless the 16th event replaces the PAX event on the 18th.

so it could very well be one show dedicated to games and the other show dedicated to hardware teardown and features.

The question is, which show will they reveal the price, date, and pre-order info or will they do that in a separate announcement?

It definitely feels like next week should give us the answers to all our questions and the final piece of this next-gen puzzle will be revealed.

And then we can make an informed decision about which console to go with or if it is even worth it to upgrade this Holiday.

Hopefully God of War and GTA VIce City.

They are definitely promoting it every single week or day until it launches.

I'm hoping there are other eXclusive launch titles aside from Astro's Playroom and Miles Morales. Series X doesn't even one as far as I know.

Yes. I hope they announce some more surprise 1st party launch exclusives. Or confirm if Demon's Souls or even Gran Turismo will be launch titles. I doubt that, but there has been some speculation.

At the very least, Demon's Souls and Gran Turismo could be launch window titles, along with Ratchet. And now Kena, I guess. If we consider launch window the 1st 6 months.

But, I do agree that it just feels like there needs to be at least one more major 1st party exclusive.

Yes! I hope we get a release date, cost and maybe a look at the loading screen. That can do with a bit of a jazz up I think

It's definitely the time to reveal and show everything. No more holding back! I'm wondering if Sony will indeed do 2 events next week, or if their official Wednesday event replaces the Friday PAX event.

Given that the potential box arts showed up in Amazon Australia for Demons Soul, Returnal, Destruction All Stars, Ragdoll and Gran Turismo and that a Korean site already listed Demons Soul. They should come out at least siX months from now. Or at least spread them out for the neXt 6 months, so they won't overshadow one another.

This would line up to Sony's statement that their ps5 launch line up is their biggest yet.

Crazy how ps5 already has 9 exclusives for the ps5 that we know
-Horizon
-Gran Turismo
-Demons Soul
-Astro's Playroom
-Destruction All Stars
-Miles Morales
-Returnal
-Ragdoll
-Rachet & Clank

Compare those to the series X's zero exclusives as Microsoft's games will be released in pc as well and most of that we know are probably years away.

And there's also Project Athia, which is another ps5 eXclusive. So 9 already + God of War, Naughty Dog, Ghost of Tsushima sequel and Peter Parker sequel. There's a lot more imo to look forward to in ps5.

Yes. And add to that Kena and Guilty Gear Strive as 3rd party (console) exclusives coming out early 2021. It's possible Returnal could also be a launch window title. And, if Horizon 2 is the big showcase title next Holiday, then the PS5 has a STRONG 1st year lined up.

There's also the constant Silent Hills rumor, and that Sony has plans to bring back an older franchise. Who knows what else Sony has planned!

Edit: You forgot Ratchet on your list. That's a confirmed launch window title.

Yeah just added it. And oh yeah I've heard about Silent Hill as well.

the eXclusives that I plan to get are (some of these aren't announced yet)
-God of War sequel
-Horizon 2
-Peter Parker sequel
-Miles
-Ghost 2
-Next Naughty Dog

Returnal and Project Athia are wait and see. While Days Gone 2 is probably in the works now as that sold well. The next Final Fantasy 7 is probably an exclusive once again. So they really have a lot of eXclusives compare to series X.

Btw, here's the list of playstation franchises which is quite informative and mentions how many months/years has passed since the last game

PlayStation's Major Franchises: Tracking the Years Since New Entries - IGN

Aside from the ones I've mentioned. I'm not interested in a revival of older ips especially the ones that only came out in ps1/ps2. I hope we saw more new ips that would lead to 2quel/3quel. And please more 3rd person action adventure games.

yes. and not just 1st party exclusives, but 3rd party as well.

As I said the other day in the Xbox thread, there are Xbox properties I am interested in, like Avowed, Fable, and Everwild. And, tbh, I'm more interested in those games than, say, Horizon 2 or the next God of War.

However, those Xbox games are still ways off, and what else does Xbox really have to show, exclusives wise? As we've been discussing over the past few posts, Sony has a strong potential 1st year already lined up (assuming no delays). So far, all Xbox has given us is Halo for next year. So, not much to get excited about near-term.

While I am interested in Series X and properties like Avowed and Fable, I also can't overlook or deny the stronger position that Sony and Playstation 5 have with their games.

If they show or reveal anything new this Wednesday, that would only further solidify that strong position, along with attractive pricing for the consoles.

They are probably announcing new games, as the last live stream was a non event.

The first live stream this year announced at least 5 ps5 games + Kena/Hitman 3 (which are ps4 games as well) - this was a really good live stream presentation especially with the first look of the console. completely overshadowed Series X's 1stlive stream.

The second ps live stream was mostly for cartoony-looking and indie games + the Hood multiplayer game. I was bored with it.

They are probably saving the best for the last live stream. Launch dates, prices, ui design, new games and anticipated sequels. After next week, I don't think we'd get live streams like this one until mid 2021 or if E3 returns next year. So I'm expecting them to go all out next Wednesday.

Guess we'll find out Wednesday!

A few new things including a 40 second teaser for Wednesday.
