Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

I think it's all relative. I mean Microsoft just announced hitting 25 million Game Pass members. They're playing an altogether different game.
Yeah they're really not messing around.

What's going through my mind isn't "Oh man, did I make a mistake choosing Playstation over Xbox this generation?" but more "I guess I'll be getting a Series X eventually", just like back in the day when I got the original Xbox a few years after getting a PS2. I chose 360 and PS4 for those specific generations but now it looks like there's more benefit to owning both consoles.

Yeah, I think that's the thing a lot of people will do. The reality is though, if you have a good PC, just getting Game Pass is still a fantastic option. And then if you're desperate for the same experience on the TV, there's a cheap Series S option. They've just made it very easy for people to buy into a Microsoft service for everybody, which is why they're sailing through the industry atm.

The issue for Sony is less existential and more "So we actually need some humility". They have to give up a lot of their old assumptions, like "Of course we don't need to do anything to get all the big third party titles", or "Of course we don't need to do anything to get all the Japanese titles". Instead, they need to put in actual work, and not just in their marquis AAA releases. Make the Playstation easy to develop for and easy to release on, give solid marketing support to more than just a handful of the biggest most AAA titles, and oh, next generation around maybe focus on getting your hardware costs down. Like, its too late for the PS5 to be anything but super expensive, so start putting thought in how to supply more affordable hardware with the PS6.

How much interest is there for Factions?

Sony and Microsoft getting into a expensive contest over studios primarily making face-shooter games I don’t care about and never will most likely. At least for them they won’t allow Microsoft to corner the market on that genre by monopolization via buyouts.

Most of Sony’s acquisitions have been more about buying talent rather than IPs.

I don’t like this acquisition game and if this was a reactionary move to Activision Sony should have gone for Ubisoft Or EA

Hm, from what i gather, this deal seems actually quite good.
Still staying multi platform while being backed by Sony...at least thats how i read it.

I hate stuff like this either way, even if Bungie really doesnt do anything that interests me.
No interest in Destiny and not about the rumored new multiplayer title they work on, since its most likely a ego shooter.
So its not really hurting me that much.

Sony might still go for a big one... Jim Ryan just saw MS doing a smaller purchase before the bigger one.

I know there is more to Bungie than that but yeah... that is certainly a move by Sony. Not sure whether it is going to be worth it.

Well it's Destiny and whatever new IP they are working on. I assume Destiny as a franchise is profitable enough to justify the price long term. Not that I care about any of these FPS franchises much.

Imagine paying 3.6 billion for Destiny... Yikes
Bungie's $500 million yearly revenue with room to grow, Bungie's IPs, and Bungie's entire workforce.

With Sony's guidance, it could turn into a profitable investment. And hopefully Sony won't let them continue milking Destiny 2 and doing nothing else.

Bungie's IPs suck donkey nards. The only thing they had was Halo and Microsoft kept that. If Sony can get them back into the single player development and the ditch the MMO crappy borderlands in space nonsense, maybe it'll worth it.

We dont know what IPs they are working on.

And despite what you may think of Destiny it is successful and a steady revinue source and has a loyal fanbase. A Destiny 3 announcement or a single player game set in that universe seems more likely than Sony shelving the brand.

Eh, I'm personally not interested in anything they do at this point. I just think it's hilarious Sony thought they were worth that much. To be fair, my opinion is Bungie is skewed due to me working at Xbox during the Destiny 1's launch which was the worst launch I've ever seen in my time with that company. Sony has failed miserably at giving me a reason to spend money on their platform and buying a developer that's long past their prime isn't going to cut it.

Destiny 2 has been a solid game for years now, a very far cry from the D1. Especially since Bungie got their independence from Activision, they've just gone from strength to strength.

I think betting against Bungie and their value is pretty shortsighted TBH.

I am willing to bet that all Destiny expansions and content will be free to play on Sony's soon to be announced Game Pass service.

Possiblity but if they're going to continue with the bull**** MMO live service model, I frankly still have zero interest in anything they do. I'm over it and I've been over it for quite awhile.

It's a shame because D2 is probably the best live service game out there. Most games are content just drip feeding you skins and cosmetic stuffs under each season pass, whereas Bungie have been churning up some incredible narrative driven story updates every 3 months. There's been some incredible twists, evolutions to shared spaces and great character writing.

E.g. in one recent season, you take in a cluster of Fallen refugees to protect them at the tower. Every week, dissent within some of the humans grew and things slowly escalated over the course of the whole season until someone launched a full on coup. I can't think of any other live service game pulling out engaging story like that as free weekly updates.

Frankly, I think it puts a lot of other live service games to shame. With some of that Sony budget to spend, honestly it's pretty exciting.

I’ve never played Destiny downloading it right now to check it out hopefully it’s not too confusing the gameplay vids I saw were interesting
