Playstation The Official Playstation 5 Thread

I swear one day I'll get a PS5. Sony are always making it easy to resist though. The slim looks alright, I prefer it to OG.

I wonder if the model of the PS5 Pro is gonna look different? Or just slightly bigger than PS5 Slim? I wouldn't be surprised if it comes soon too as well.

I have to say this is the first time where the smaller 'slim' model did not go down in price but in fact went up (at least the digital model did). I just got a new PS5 a few months ago with a 2TB internal SSD add on so I have NO desire to 'upgrade'. I wonder if the fat models will be lower in price like on black friday. I know my brother would buy one if the price is right.
Isn't that disappointing. Just shows that 3 years later, PS5 is still priced the same, if not much higher.

I fear for the day when the price of the PS6 and its games are revealed in 2028.

i see it as a good option for those who passed on getting the ps5 with a disc drive, either they no longer buy discs or that the ps5 digital edition is $50 cheaper. Then those people would later realize that they need a disc drive for some reason, and they won't need to buy the much more eXpensive ps5 just to play discs.

Also, this accessory being available as an option shows that Sony won't abandon disc drives for their consoles anytime soon. Its good news imo.

I wonder if the ps5 pro will have different editions too? Digital only, with a disc drive and digital with an option to attach a disc drive?

Or just buy one with the disc drive already included and save the money?
Who are you telling? When it comes to video games, I almost always prefer physical media rather than digital versions.

If I didn't already have the launch Ps5, I would still go for the slim standard even if the All Digital was $200 less.

I hope consumers in Q4 will be able to be aware of this deception and make the right choice for themselves.

I agree that having an optional detachable disc drive is a good idea, but not for the prices Sony is setting at retail. As @Drizzle pointed out, if you buy the slim AD and the disc drive, you end up spending more than the standard slim console.

It seems like functionality-wise, the detachable disc drive is the only difference between the OG Ps5 AD and the slim version, and for that Sony raised the price by $50. They could have either kept the price the same which would've been very consumer friendly, or they could have priced it at $430 so that the price of owning the slim AD and the disc drive matches the price of owning just the standard console.

Separately, the disc drive and digital edition cost more combined as those are two separate products when they being sold. Packaging, taX, and those additional layer of plastic covering for both add up.

There's also the price hike for the digital edition, which I think we can blame to world economy for that (every market out there increased their price noticeably this year especially food/gas).

I'm telling anyone who wants a PS5 and a physical drive. If you don't you aren't who I was referring to.

Thinking about it, I cannot really think a lot of people would buy the detachable disc drive for their digital only Ps5. From the looks of it, you would have to manually install it by yourself, use a screwdriver and flip up the ps5. Sounds like a hassle to me when you could have bought a ps5 with disc drive that only costs 50 dollars more. Instead of buying an accessory for 70 dollars and installing it by yourself. Not really practical for the buyer.

I initially thought the disc drive would be connected through a USB port, but thats not the case. The ps5 without a disc drive looks much cooler though (design wise). With the ps4 models, you can't really tell if there's a disc drive making the design more slick. But these ps5 models, its so obvious to see which one has a disc drive.

I hope ps6 would have a better eXterior design. I also don't like that the ps5 slim has these pointy edges.

Console covers: $55

I really hope the next console doesn't need a "stand" to begin with. Never used the vertical stand for my ps2. While my ps1/2/4 didn't need a horizontal stand.

when I asked "who are you telling" I meant the idiomatic phrase saying that I am already fully aware of what you are telling me.
If you don't you aren't who I was referring to.
which is why I said I hope consumers in Q4 will be able to see through the deception and make the right choice for themselves

thats probably the only accessory from them recently that I find useful.

As I understand it, despite the slimmer size it's still as powerful as the og ps5. I was going to pay to get mine fixed, but I guess I might as well fork over the couple extra hundos to get the improved model

Iirc, it is much quieter and doesn't have a liquid metal. But slimmer versions are always better when it comes to practicality.

I think Sony could partner with Netflix Amazon or Apple to bring their games to streaming services it would be a good move

i don't need think they to partner up. PlayStation already has a big audience reach and a companion live service (PsPlus) that has millions of subscribers.

its just how they would take their streaming service to the neXt level to surpass
XboX Game Pass. Working with Apple and NetfliX, won't guarantee Apple/NetfliX users would suddenly get a PS5 especially if those fancy Sony games are accessible in a mobile phone. Sony still has to sell their hardware and they should not make their games easily accessible to those don't own a Ps5 or a gaming PC, unless they plan to abandon the console market. I know plenty of people who own an iPhone and have a monthly NetfliX subscription. Most of them don't even have a Ps4 or any gaming console like XboX or the Switch. They play multiplayer mobile games instead.

If Sony adds a streaming service to PS+ Premium or Extra...you can use on Console or TV...i would absolutely pay for that.
But as it is, i dont see the need for more than the basic PS+ service.

Sony makes too much money licensing their properties to other streamers to ever start their own.

i think they should add their own Sony film/music/TV/library to PS Plus alongside their games. Its a huge incentive to PS Plus subscribers (especially when they eventually raise prices like most streaming services). I think PS Plus could be Sony's equivalent of Disney+, Paramount+, MaX, Peacock, Prime, NetfliX and Spotify. All those media in 1 streaming service sounds great. Those other streaming apps don't have AAA games in their library, which would make their streaming app more special.

That being said, they should keep their licensing deals with other streamers (Disney, NetfliX, etc), since they probably earn millions of money from those. But PsPlus is already up and running for years, they should advantage of that platform more by adding their entire back catalog into it, not just games.

Ps5 slim AD's optional disc drive will require an Internet connection to sync with the console
