Bandai Namco announced Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC during Microsoft’s E3 2018 press conference. It will launch this winter.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition includes upscaled screen resolution, new characters, events, and additional content never released outside of Japan. This updated version of the RPG classic will be released this winter.
Follow Yuri Lowell, a resident in the Lower Quarter of Zaphias and former Imperial Knight, as he accepts a mission to retrieve a stolen Blastia Core used to regulate his neighborhood’s water supply. This simple mission spins into a series of events that finds Yuri befriending a colorful cast of characters, traveling to exotic locations, and being pushed into the middle of a nefarious plot that threatens the destruction of the entire planet.
Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition features two new fully playable party members for North America; Patty Fleur, a young pirate searching for her lost memories, as well as Yuri’s rival and best friend, Flynn Scifo. Along with these two new playable characters,Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition will include additional scenarios, locations, and costumes that will be all-new for Western players.
Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition uses a specialized version of the Tales of series’ Linear Motion Battle System for combat. Players control a single party member in real-time combat while the other three party members are controlled by a customized set of A.I. commands. Players can swap between the four characters at any time during battles and can perform both physical and Mystic Artes attacks.

Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition will launch for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC on January 11, 2019 in the Americas and Europe, Bandai Namco announced.

Bandai Namco also announced a Bandai Namco Online Store-exclusive “Anniversary Bundle” for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch with “exclusive collectibles featuring Yuri Lowell, Patty Fleur, Flynn Scifo, and Repede.” Here is a look at the case:

The footage reveals new character Patty Fleur’s English voice for the first time. At this time, Gematsu cannot confirm whether the English voice actors for the returning characters are the same as the original release.

Troy Baker, who played Yuri Lowell in the original release of Tales of Vesperia, was not contacted by Bandai Namco to reprise his role for additional recordings in the upcoming Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition, the actor confirmed.

“….wow. Yeah, had no idea about this,” Baker said on Twitter in response the recently released gameplay videos, which use Baker’s old voice-overs mixed with a different actor’s additional recordings. “Was never approached to do any additional lines / scenes. Pretty gutted, to be honest. Love this character so much, would’ve jumped at the chance to step into those boots again.”

Total worldwide shipments for Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition have surpassed 500,000 units, Bandai Namco announced.

While we do not have specific numbers for every region and platform, the latest Japanese sales chart in which the game appears puts it at least 53,994 sales on PlayStation 4 and 31,186 sales on Switch in Japan, meaning that roughly 17 percent or sales can be said to come from Japan. Additionally, according to SteamSpy, anywhere between 3,450 and 20,000 users own the PC version.

In commemoration of the milestone, Bandai Namco has released a set of four free smartphone wallpapers.

Bandai Namco will release the version 1.2 update for Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition on March 7, the publisher announced.

All Versions

  • Fixed a rare issue in which the game would freeze during gameplay.
  • Adjusted the height of certain enemies both in the overworld map and in battle.
  • Fixed the display lag that would occur in Mantaic.
  • Adjusted the behavior of stick controls during battle.
  • Fixed an issue in which Flynn’s voice would play in Japanese when changing his strategy to “Up To You” during battle, even when voiceover settings had been set to English.
  • Improved stability of other behaviors.
PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Switch Versions

  • Fixed an issue in which an arte assigned to a shortcut wouldn’t be performed properly when stick controls to perform it.
Xbox One, Switch, and Steam (When Using a Controller) Versions

  • Fixed an issue in which certain of Rita and Estelle’s artes would trigger in an unintended location.
