Tales of Zestiria Shows Off Its New Enemy Encounter System. July 30, 2014 . 9:00am

For the first time in the series, Tales of Zestiria will have battles that take place in the same spot you’re standing, instead of transitioning to a separate arena.

For the first time in the series, Tales of Zestiria will have battles that take place on the same spot you’re standing, instead of transitioning to a separate arena. Bandai Namco gives us a better idea of how it works in their latest video for the game. (Via: Game Jouhou)

VIDEO foud here-CLick link to open & Watch!: http://gamestalk.net/toz-12/

As shown in the video, the “Real Map Battle” system lets you fight on the same ground you encounter the enemies. This also includes, trees, rocks, and other obstacles that were originally there, as well.

For this reason, you’ll have to think twice about where you fight at times, especially when you find yourself in narrow areas in dungeons or hallways.

Additionally, it looks like the areas with possible map action features, where Heavenly Tribe characters can interact with using their elemental actions, give Sorey a “???” symbol above his head when one’s nearby.

Tales of Zestiria is in development for PlayStation 3.

What Happens When Dawn Of The New World Heroes Meet Other Tales Characters. August 1, 2014 . 1:54am

In Tales of the World: Reve Unitia, a bunch of characters from the Tales series will get together so it’ll be fun to see how they interact. This time, we get to see Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World’s Marta Lauldi and Emil Castagnier.

In Tales of the World: Reve Unitia, a bunch of characters from the Tales series will get together so it’ll be fun to see how they interact. This time, we get to see Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World’s Marta Lauldi and Emil Castagnier catching up with other Tales characters.

[YT]PupIbUkMiOA[/YT]
Marta’s video starts out with her scolding Stahn Aileron from Tales of Destiny being his usual self and somehow falling asleep in the middle of combat.

He mutters “I can’t eat anymore Ri-” which Marta assumes he was about to finish with the name of someone he likes, but as it turns out, he was about to say “ringo” which means “apple” in Japanese, followed by a disappointed Marta.
[YT]mc1GAyj6fEs[/YT]

In Emil’s video, Norma Beatty shows up saying that he’s the rumored man who changes eye-color depending on his personality. She doesn’t remember his name, but after he introduces himself again, she decides to give him the nickname of “Milmil”.

Emil doesn’t seem too familiar with the concept of nicknames, so just in case he didn’t like it, Norma goes with Emichin, Emicchi or Emisuke. In the end, Emil decides to go with Milmil, since it was the first on that she chose to give him.

In the end, she takes off, but Emil is shown pretty surprised at how easily she approached him, even though they hardly even talked much. He never got a nickname from anyone before, so it got a nice smile out of him, in the end.

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia will be released in Japan on October 23, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

These New Tales of Zestiria Characters Sound Like Trouble For Sorey And Friends. August 6, 2014 . 2:45am

Sergei Strelka and Lucas are two of the characters you’ll encounter in Tales of Zestiria.

With people like Zaveid running wild, it looks like Sorey and his Heavenly Tribe buddies might be in for some trouble in Tales of Zestiria. Now, another two characters have been introduced, and it seems like they might spell even more trouble for our heroes.

Sergei Strelka:
The leader of the Laurence Empire’s knights, a hot-blooded man who is well respected by his subordinates because of his loyalty to the empire and devotion to the people. It is said that his battle capabilities go well beyond those of a normal person. To make matters worse, Sergei responds to the invisible attacks from those of the Heavenly Tribe.

Lucas:
A mercenary who is well-known even among the generals of the two big nations. His crew of hired soldiers is powerful enough to be on even terms in combat against the main troops of an army. He is currently employed by the Highland Kingdom.

Tales of Zestiria is in development for PlayStation 3.

Tales of Xillia 2 preview: Black and white

2

While you can rarely base much off an RPG's opening hour or so, Tales of Xillia 2 quickly establishes some of the things it's doing the same as its 2013 predecessor, and some of the things it's doing differently. The most obvious difference is the new central hero, Ludger Will Kresnik, and how the game presents him.

It's not just Ludger's look that grabs you, with his dapper navy shirt and yellow tie overshadowed by his half-and-half black and white hair - right down to differently colored eyebrows. Unlike the last game's heroes, it's something that isn't there that claims your attention: his voice. Ludger is mostly a silent protagonist - in the hour and a half I played, the young man only spoke in grunts, mumbles and other monosyllabic noises. That reflects the other most obviously new part of the game, namely the dialogue choices Ludger can make.Tales of Xillia 2 (July)

The video below provides a look at the “Real Map System” whereby battles take place on the field you’re in, instead of transitioning to a separate battle screen. The idea is great in theory, but unfortunately, there appears to be a bit of a delay/stutter between you encountering the enemy and the battle actually beginning. Oddly, there’s also a lot of geometry popping in abruptly as Sorey explores the field.

here's the test chamber and weird article from a interview with the creator of the series .

Don’t Expect Any Sci-Fi Tales Games, Says Producer Hideo Bab. August 19, 2014 . 4:02pm

Tales of series producer Hideo Baba recently answered questions from fans, including one about whether the series will ever explore sci-fi themes.

Tales of series producer Hideo Baba recently answered questions from fans via the PlayStation Blog in Europe, and one of the questions he was asked was what his favourite books are.

Baba replied, “I have lots of favourite books but I would like to say ‘Jonathan Livingstone Seagull’ and ‘The Giving Tree’. Both books are not difficult but really heart moving so they are important to me.”

“In ‘Jonathan Livingstone Seagull,’ not only he uses his wings to catch prey but also he looks for the true meaning of flying with his wings that every bird naturally owns,” Baba continued. “His way of living is really impressive where he sticks with his conviction, even though he gets funny looks from friends around.”

“‘The Giving Tree’ describes ‘love’ and its shape, and the shape of giving love, through short sentences. This is a really thought-provoking book.”

Interestingly, Baba also says not to expect a sci-fi Tales game at any point in the future, since the series is known for a more fantasy-esque approach.

“I believe a story can be any storyline and can be described in any ways, but [the] Tales of series has been described in the adventure of sword and magic with the theme of storyline and its message, so if I have an opportunity to develop a sci-fi game, I would like to make it in the other new series,” Baba shared.

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia Shows What Happens When Opposites Meet. September 5, 2014 . 12:30am

The first video is supposed to be all about Tales of Rebirth protagonist Veigue Lungberg, but it looks like Raven from Tales of Vesperia is the one who steals the spotlight.

With a colorful cast of characters from different Tales series in Tales of the World: Reve Unitia, it could get pretty interesting seeing how they interact with each other. In the game’s latest trailers, we get to see just that with the likes of Raven, Zelos, and others.
[YT]aBLocDvPtn4[/YT]

The first video is supposed to be all about Tales of Rebirth protagonist Veigue Lungberg, but it looks like Raven from Tales of Vesperia is the one who steals the spotlight.

It starts out with Raven saying “Yo, handsome! How’s it going?” but Veigue doesn’t say anything, prompting Raven to assume that he’s a mute. Raven then asks him if he’s one of those “cool” characters, and relates it to his use of ice-type abilities.

“A cool character who specializes in ice-type attacks… huh, isn’t that just perfect,” he continues. “Oh man, what a cold response… actually, I’ll die if it gets too cold… because I hate cold places… get it?!”

However, Raven remains speechless, making Raven a little sad at the end.
[YT]vmCfMHUE4S8[/YT]

The next video highlights Tales of Rebirth’s Annie Barrs along with Tales of Symphonia bad boy Zelos Wilder, who is already hitting on her at the start of the video, asking her if she wants to go get some tea with him later.

Annie seems to be a bit surprised, making Zelos wonder if her sudden reaction could be the result of him saying something wrong. She tells him that it’s nothing, and Zelos goes back to normal saying she already looks cute, but also looks cute when she panics.

After she backs off a bit, Zelos wonders what could be her reason for doing that, and still wonders if she’s not used to that sort of thing. “N-no, it’s not okay but… it’s okay,” she responds. “Uh, um, Mr. Zelos! Could you please talk to me more next time? I-I have to leave now!! I was able to find what I was looking for!!”

At the end, Zelos goes on saying “Ohh? What’s this? Was there some kind of spark between us?”

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia will be released in Japan on October 23, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Tales Of Zestiria Hands-On: Battle System Elements. September 17, 2014 . 9:03pm

The biggest change in Tales of Zestiria compared to previous Tales game is battles take place right where you touch an enemy.

This week, I got to spend some time with Tales of Zestiria during Bandai Namco’s pre-Tokyo Game Show event. The playable battle demo put Sorey on an island populated with monsters like wolves and pixies.

The biggest change in Tales of Zestiria compared to previous Tales game is that battles take place right on the field when you touch an enemy. Instead of cutting into a battle scene, Tales of Zestiria uses the map as the battlefield, which means any objects like trees or hills from the map become obstacles in battle.

Once you cross blades (or tentacles with the land octopus enemy), Sorey plays like your typical sword-wielding Tales protagonist. Pressing Circle makes Sorey swing his weapon, and the X button along with a direction triggers different arcane Artes. Tales of Zestiria doesn’t have a TP meter like Tales of Xillia. Arcane Artes consume a little bit of the Spirit Gauge each time you use an attack. This gauge recovers on its own so while you can do a burst of arte attacks, you’ll have to wait for a little bit before using Artes again.

Sorey is paired with a Seraph who represents an element, such as Mikleo. If you play as Mikleo, you can use ranged magic attacks, but while you’re casting you’re vulnerable to attacks. Mikleo, who can make water arrows rain from the sky, needs to be protected—or at the very least far enough that a rampaging squirrel (squirrels are really enemies in Zestiria)—won’t hit you and interrupt casting the spell. Sorey can also use Armatization to fuse with a Seraph. Fusing with Mikleo gives Sorey a bow and long range water attacks. Sorey gets an HP boost too and his attacks hurt more, but the tradeoff is Mikleo isn’t on the battlefield when you’re transformed, so there’s one less character to sponge up damage.

It seems like exploiting elemental weaknesses (fire, water, earth, and wind) is more important in Tales of Zestiria than other Tales titles. The game lets you know right away if an element is effective by changing the damage color to red and saying an enemy is weak against it. Tales of Zestiria also lets players know if an enemy is resistant to attacks, which means you might want to switch Seraphs.

The battlefield demo had a giant boar-like enemy that kind of acted as a “boss.” The boar was the strongest enemy I saw and aside from being larger in size it roamed around the field just like any regular monster. What made the boar tough to beat is it soaked up damage and was resistant to Sorey and Mikleo’s fusion. I managed to defeat the boar by chipping away at it’s life bar, but this was the only fight that was a challenge. Sorey seemed to dominate every other battle in the demo.

Something else to note is that Sorey also has elemental map actions. Pressing up on the D-pad made Sorey do an uppercut that makes fire rise from the ground, which can be used in dungeons to light up torches. Pressing down does an earth-powered charge punch, which is useful for moving boulders that are blocking the path. Left makes a water shield appear and makes enemies notice Sorey less in the field. Finally, pressing right does a short wind-based teleport to reach areas that are a little distance away.

Tales of Zestiria started development three years ago, producer Hideo Baba said, and he planned to release it for the console with the biggest user base in Japan, the PlayStation 3. He also said he was surprised at how rapidly people upgraded to PlayStation 4, especially in the West, but did not say there were plans for a PlayStation 4 version.

Tales of Zestiria comes out on January 22, 2015 in Japan and will be released in the West afterwards.

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia Shows Tales Characters Duking It Out. September 25, 2014 . 1:51am

While the Tales characters don’t know what’s going on, they get split into two groups, with each of them having their own story in Tales of the World: Reve Unitia. The trailer shows Asbel and Yuri fighting, which is probably due to some sort of conflict that arises between the groups.

Tales games have always been about cameo appearances, but Tales of the World: Reve Unitia will bring more heroes than ever from the series’ universe in a world called Revalia. The game’s latest trailer shows us a closer look at the characters and the dream world.
[YT]ayIrr7jFkjA[/YT]
To catch you up to speed, Asbel and other Tales characters wake up in the unknown world of Revalia, without any recollection of their past memories, apart from their names. The world is facing a crisis from the threat of an evil known as Vule.

While the Tales characters don’t know what’s going on, they get split into two groups, with each of them having their own story in Tales of the World: Reve Unitia. The trailer shows Asbel and Yuri fighting, which is probably due to some sort of conflict that arises between the groups.

One group goes with the little green character known as Terun, who asks for help in defending the Lufres’ village from the Vule. The other group is with Nahato, a blue spirit-like creature that is considered the strongest of the Dream Keepers, who were in charge of sealing the Vule.

As it turns out, Revalia is what connects all of the worlds together. If those who are asleep and dreaming in the “Awakened Worlds” happen to die while in Revalia, they’ll never wake up in their real worlds, so hopefully, they’ll find a way to all work together in the end.

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia is slated for release in Japan on October 23, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.

Tales of Zestiria Trailer Shows Off More Combat And Field Actions. September 25, 2014 . 9:00am

More gameplay footage from Bandai Namco’s next “Tales of” game.

Siliconera got a chance to try out Tales of Zestiria’s battle system in Tokyo Game Show last week, and Bandai Namco’s latest trailer for the game gives one an idea of what it looks like.

The trailer starts out with Sorey saying, “I’ll also believe in it—my answer… my friends. Let’s go!” This is followed by a look at him running across some of the fields in Tales of Zestiria. The 0:45 mark of the video shows various field actions as well.

Next, we get into combat, demonstrating the Fusionic Chain-LMBS (Linear Motion Battle System,) with features like the Spirits Chain, Around Step, and Blast Gauge. You can read more details about that in our earlier report.

Starting at the 1:22 mark, the trailer shows the main characters and their individual battle actions. Afterwards, they show the Armaization feature, where Sorey can fuse with a Seraph.

The first bit shows Sorey and his fusion with Mikleo, who provides water element long-ranged bow attacks. Armatization with Lailah gives fire element attacks to go with a long sword. Dezel’s wind power looks like they add speed and mobility.

Finally, the fusion with Edna looks like a powerful one, with Sorey pounding enemies with two giant stone fists. As mentioned earlier, exploiting elemental weakness is more important in Tales of Zestiria than ever, so knowing how to use these will be key to success.

You can read more details on the game’s battle action in our hands-on report.

Tales of Zestiria will release in Japan on January 22, 2014 for PlayStation 3.

Tales of Zestiria Teases Footage Of Combat Against A Dragon. September 30, 2014 . 5:45am

Producer Hideo Baba says that while they haven’t shown much about dragons, they will still play a big role in the game’s story.

When Bandai Namco first announced Tales of Zestiria, they said that the story will revolve around the subject of dragons, which is even on the logo for the game, but we’ve yet to see any, until now. The latest footage for the game shows a glimpse of dragon-fighting action.

During the livestream, series producer Hideo Baba said that while they haven’t shown much about dragons yet, they will still play a big role in the game’s story.

The footage they showed featuring Sorey and his buddies fighting what appears to be a large wyvern is just an example of what a dragon fight will be like in Tales of Zestiria. Baba also mentioned that dragons will come in various sizes, too, so we’ll likely see much larger ones later on.

Tales of Zestiria is slated for release in Japan on January 22, 2015 for PlayStation 3.

Here’s A Look At Tales of Zestiria, In Evangelion Fashion. September 30, 2014 . 9:31am

Producer Hideo Baba shared some footage of what the characters look like in Evangelion outfits during a livestream for the game.

Bandai Namco recently revealed a big collaboration crossover with Neon Genesis Evangelion and Tales of Zestiria. Producer Hideo Baba shared some footage of what the characters look like in Evangelion outfits during a livestream for the game.

While Sorey and friends will fight giant dragons instead of angels, they can still do it in the spirit wearing Plugsuit outfits from Evangelion. As you may have noticed from the trailer, the costumes include accessories and hairstyles as well.

Given Edna’s personality, she actually makes a great fit for Rei, and seems to pull off the cosplay quite well!

Tales of Zestiria will release in Japan on January 22, 2015 for PlayStation 3.

Tales of Zestiria introduces Rose, two new dungeons, and more

Published 43 mins ago. 11 comments.

Five new preview videos to check out as well.
ToZ_10-02-14.jpg

Bandai Namco has put out another press release detailing more worldbuilding information for Tales of Zestiria, showing off a new girl by the name of Rose, as well as a handful of temples players will be able to explore, among other things, plus five videos that showcase various aspects of the game. Catch our translation of the press release below and the videos immediately after that, along with the usual screenshots and artwork.
Character Introduction
toz_rose-600x857.jpg

Rose (voiced by Mikako Komatsu)
Gender: Female
Height: 160 cm. (approximately 5’3″)
Weapon: Dual Daggars
Character Design: Kosuke Fujishima
A young woman traveling the content as a member of the merchant guild Wagtail Feathers, Rose is a cheerful, openminded woman who does things at her own pace. Although generally someone who gets along with others quite well, she isn’t afraid to be opinionated and will actively disobey if posed with something too unreasonable or something she otherwise can’t bring herself to agree with. A worldly person all around, while she hasn’t become a cynic after everything she’s seen in her time, she nevertheless has sharp sensibilities and is as such routinely able to see into the real heart of matters as they pop up. She also happens to be highly skilled with using her two daggers well beyond just pure self defense, a trait she may well have picked up as a result of having to grow up as both a travel and a merchant.
When it comes to the people that tag along with Rose on her travels, few things in the world matter to her more than them. As a result of certain circumstances that arise, she ends up tagging along with Sorey and his group, her sunny disposition quickly making her the one most able to set the mood for everyone else. In spite of the fact that she ostensibly has spiritual powers that match those of Sorey, for some reason, she can never actually feel the presence of those from the Family of Heaven. The reason for this seemingly lies somewhere in her past, but once she goes along with Sorey, she finally begins to exhibit her powers. Even around Family of Heaven types once she can see them, however, her disposition remains as cheerful as ever.
New Story Beats
The Beginning of War
A long-awaited war between the Highland Kingdom and Laurence Kingdom breaks out, with armies from each side lining up along the north and south sides of Gravegant Basin, an area completely surrounded by craggy mountains with no easy places to escape. Soon enough, scores of arrows rain down upon the battlefield and huge rocks are flung from catapults. Lancers band together to break through enemy lines, their bayonets clashing as loudly as their screams, blood and flesh being spilled asunder. Consumed by fear, anger, and hatred, the battlefield quickly takes a turn for the atrocious as the soldiers one by one transform into Hyouma and in due time the men no longer fight with their blades, but rather claws, tearing their enemies apart and savagely eating one another, quickly turning into a disaster that could very well prove to be an ever greater plague upon the continent than the one it already faces.
A Chance Encounter with a Dragon
For reasons made clear in the game, Sorey finds himself entering Rayfolk, a sacred mountain where he encounters a legendary dragon, a particularly harrowing one that not only towers above most any other creature, but also holds strength that exceeds even that of a Hyouma. Practically a specter of death, in contrast to Hyoumas, this dragon is a fully realized monster from top to bottom, and the strongest one of them all at that. Unfortunately for Sorey, he has no time to revel in the legends being true, as the dragon manages to pin his body and those of the others just by gazing at them, preventing them from running away. Able to move faster than the wind and let out roars, getting attacked by the dragon surely spells death for them all….
Rastnobel
Rastnobel is a famous commercial hub in Laurence that attracts top-tier craftsmen. A place sporting wildly diverse architecture new and old and high quality goods, the city is especially famous for its bell tower, whose gorgeous are produced mechanically. With connections to the Highland Kingdom, as well, Rastnobel is a place bustling with commerce all about, its citizens able to enjoy a great deal of autonomy. In recent times, though, that energy and high spirit has given way somewhat to unease born from a string of crime, including serial murders and child disappearances, with no end in sight.
Dungeons: Fire Temple Igrein and Water Temple Rufay
Throughout the continent, there are lingering structures, “Trial Ruins,” where the doshi of old are thought to have trained. Although the facilities are said to come from a time when humans and the Family of Heaven more properly coexisted, as these ruins are located in secluded areas and often hidden even then, there are few people who know their true meaning nowadays. Igrein, for instance, was constructed deep underground, so far below the earth that molten lava even flows through it. Rufay, meanwhile, is protected by the power of pure water and has mechanisms within it that are somehow capable of deterring unwanted intruders, with a Hyouma trapped in the depths of it for reasons unknown.
Divine Guardians and Restoration
As Sorey and Mikleo go about their travels, they see for themselves just how much of the Greenwood continent is being ravaged by impurities. This was once kept in check by the Divine Guardians, special members of the Family of Heaven dedicated to protected the lands, but in many places these days, their presence can hardly be felt. As such, one of the objectives of Sorey and crew as they go about their journey is to track down these Divine Guardians and request their aid so that the lands can return to their former health.
Rastnobel is one such place. Although a Divine Guardian by the name of Saind is supposed to be watching over it, conditions within the city are slowly breaking down and when Sorey and the others ask him to renew his guardianship over it, apparently he has reasons for not being able to do so at that time. However, once he is able to make his return, he can be found enshrined in the city and talking to him will open up a menu whereby he can offer unique support in his capacity as a Divine Guardian.

Tales of Zestiria Introduces A Lone Wolf Seraph And A Psychotic Assassin. October 8, 2014 . 5:59am

Renard is a cold-blooded assassin, with an ominous aura surrounding him.

Most of the characters introduced in Tales of Zestiria are good guys (except for Zaveid, who we’re still uncertain about), but the latest character introduced in this week’s issue of Jump magazine is certainly a villain who looks like he’ll be up to no good. [Thanks, @Kazu4281.]

Judging by the katakana, the new character in question is named Renard (or Lunaire, but we’ll likely get something completely different later on) and is described as “a new shadow that will creep up on Sorey and the others”.

He is quoted as saying: “Are you going to make me spell it out for you…? That I want to devour you.”

Renard is a cold-blooded assassin, with an ominous aura surrounding him. He’s also part of a dark guild called the “Bone of Wind”.

Additionally the magazine report also reveals a new female character named Simon (shown on the upper-left part of the scan) who seems to be a lone wolf Seraph with no intention of following the Monk, Sorey; however, it seems like she’ll be around to provoke Sorey during his journey.

More details on the new characters will be revealed in the near future.

Tales of Zestiria is slated for release in Japan on January 22, 2015 for PlayStation 3.

Edna: Venerate Mine
A technique in which Edna sends a wall of rock at the enemy with a powerful kick

Here’s A Look At Different Protagonists Meeting In Tales of the World. October 9, 2014 . 4:31pm

Tales of Legendia protagonist Senel Coolidge is shown having a brief conversation with the protagonist of Tales of the Tempest, Caius Qualls.

We’ve seen what happens when opposite personalities met up in Bandai Namco’s previous set of videos from Tales of the World: Reve Unitia. This time, we have the proper Estellise from Vesperia meeting the blunt Spada from Tales of Innocence.
[YT]M-q6p5qwyEI[/YT]

In this first video, Tales of Legendia protagonist Senel Coolidge is shown having a brief conversation with the protagonist of Tales of the Tempest, Caius Qualls, as he asks him how his transformation works.

Caius doesn’t understand it too well, which he says could be due to the fact that they no longer have memories of the past. After apologizing about the sudden question, Senel explains that he doesn’t remember anything either, but he has faint memories of someone similar to Caius.

While he says that it might not be certain, it seems like it could be a trigger to bringing back more of his past. The intrigued Caius asks him to share more if anything else comes to mind, so it seems like the communication among the characters could be a key to bringing back fragments of their memories.
[YT]MyTwoNWbZFI[/YT]

The next video shows Tales of Vesperia heroine Estellise Sidos Heurassein and Tales of Innocence’s Spada Belforma. It looks like Spada saves Estellise after she dropped her weapon, and he tells the “ojou-sama” to stay alert.

[Note: in Japanese, calling someone “ojou-sama” is often used to address the daughter or girl of an upper-class family.]

She is then shown wanting to ask him something, but seems to hestitate, which prompts Spada to tell her to speak more clearly. She ends up asking him, “am I really an ojou-sama?” to which Spada responds in surprise saying something along the lines of: “Wha-? No matter how you look at it, you’re a prim-and-proper lady! You even speak like one.”

After she asks the question again, Spada says that he can’t pinpoint why, but he just knows that she’s that way, and a hardcore one, too. She then asks if that means that she’s different from everyone, and Spada says that’s not what he said, and reprimands her for her lack of focus.

Tales of the World: Reve Unitia will be released in Japan on October 23, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.
