The Official Tekken Movie Thread

Damn, cant watch the trailer in work, will have to watch it tomorrow as going out tonight, really want to see it though!

Aaargh, I'm in the same boat - gonna have to wait until I get home.

Hmph, doesn't look too bad. For what it is. I really like the cast of unknowns.

The trailer was decent, was pretty hard to see what was going on actually. Sure I only watched it once but it seemed more like any random fighting movie than a Tekken movie. Still I have high hopes for this.

Looks like what I'd expect from the director. Costumes are pretty spot on. Should be a fun rental.

I saw this trailer at another board.

Yeah, it has a DTV look to it (that isn't bad, just with that 35 mil budget you think the DOP/movie would scream THEATERS). I can see why this is DTV in the UK. But...the fight scenes should be nice. And that is all that should matter in a Tekken movie. I be renting or buying it.

And this sin't the US trailer. This is the UK DTV trailer.

I got chills on the second viewing of that trailer. :o It could be the song from The Sick Puppies though.

if people thinks it looks good in a stupid, drinking game kind of way, I can buy that.

If someone actually this looks legitimately good and will see it in theaters, then I pity you.

The actual footage doesn't look that bad. The trailer itself feels very cheap though. Bad music and editing, imo.:down

I won't see it in theatres and it does look a bit like a DTV movie. Only thing is, it's based on a fighting game.

I don't care who you are(not exactly directed at you Octoberist, just in general), if you think a movie based on a fighting game(out of all other types of video games)should be some incredibly dramatic and serious epic film, you need to wake up a bit.

Look at the first Mortal Kombat, while the dialogue at times is a bit cheesy, the only real complaint I have is the fact that it should have been rated R to match the subject matter. It's one of the very, very few films that I like of Paul WS Anderson and didn't need to be super serious and spruced up...just look at the source material.

Basically what I'm saying is, yeah it could have had a better quality to it worthy of being in the theatre or looking like a theatrical film. All I know is most fighting games have simple ass stories and that's why I believe people need to wake up if they demand a super serious and epic movie based on one. Essentially most fighting games are just about a tournament with a bunch of different people fighting, yeah there is background story to each character but it's nothing drama worthy most of the time.

Only other thing I don't like about this film aside from what I mentioned in my last post is that it looks like most if not all fights are in that cage. Would have been nice if the tournament jumped around locations.

For all the negative criticism, I think the movie looks pretty good. Granted, the trailer just focuses on the all the fighting and action, but Dwight H. Little's film does seem to be a very close adaptation of the game.

The movie looks amazing, the trailer was meh. I'm just more happy to see some footage! I'll be buying this for sure.

Although I can't quite tell if it's the budget(which I doubt)or just the overall visual style the director chose but some of those fight scenes had the visual look of the game and I'm not talking about fighting styles. I don't think it's the budget because a good number of the other fighting scenes look normal and decent visually as well as the fighting moves aren't something that needs to be CGI'd.

Maybe it was just the lighting but my gf even agreed with me. Does anyone else see this or am I tripping.

I've been waiting along time for a Tekken movie and I'm glad we're getting one. But this looks like an original SyFy movie. And that's not good. :(

There's a good chance this is going straight to DVD & Blu-Ray.

I'll still watch it and like it though. :D

But I wish somebody would've tooken this movie more seriously. :(

That trailer was absolutely one of the most cheap and awful looking things that I've seen in a long time.

Isnt an impressive trailer.. but the movie doesnt look as bad as Street Fighter or King of Fighters...

You're making excuses for these fighting game movies being done poorly. Hollywood probably says the same thing about these video game adaptions that you're saying so they don't even try to do a good job at them.
