BvS The Official Zack Snyder Directs Everything Thread

I do seem to recall reading that he signed a three-picture deal, which included Justice League. Granted, this was well before the Terrio rewrite, and I don't know if such a deal was ever confirmed by the studio, but yeah. I'm just waiting for it. I don't get the studio's fascination with him.

Frankly, I've had my fill of Goyer in all things pertaining to DC. I want new blood.
Sounding like a broken record here, but for all the crap I do give Goyer, he's got a great pulse into what it takes to do a modern reinvention of a comic book character for the masses.

More than any other creative figure in the genre, I think he's the one that has provided the most intriguing twists in adapting the canon. From Blade, to Batman, to Supes. Writing shortcomings notwithstanding, his noggin has plenty of valuable ideas that's worthy to sign a contract for.

If only Zack was like Whedon and had a band of fanatical followers who worship everything he does no matter how sub-par it is. The internet would be rejoicing right now.

Seriously, I had a conversation with someone yesterday who thought Captain America: The Winter Soldier was "just okay" because Joss Whedon didn't write and direct it and ZOMG YOU GUYZ IF HE HAD IT WOULD BEEN SOOOOOO MUCH BETTER CUZ WHEDON IS GOD AND EVERYONE ELSE SUCKS IN COMPARISON FOR REELZ.

So glad Whedon isn't doing it, either.

Snyder is definitely the best candidate.

I wouldn't call Goyer a genius or anything but I don't think he's that much worse (or better) than the majority of people writing these movies. I do think it's a good idea to bring in new people though. DC comics has a ton of people writing its stuff at any given time, so it only makes sense to have a number of writers working on these movies.

Just for the love of god, don't let goyer do the screenplay.

"Dicksplash" ugh

I like Snyder a lot, but the fact that the third act of "Man of Steel" gave him no pause makes me very skeptical.

I don't know why they wouldn't hire multiple writers either. These types of movies are the most expensive movies studios put out. Why gamble on a mediocre script?

The fact that the third act of MOS had no pause pleased me no end. :word:

Ymmv of course. :woot:

I wish they would announce one more solid writer. Having Oscar-winner Terrio in the cards is great, but he's also unproven in the long run. Only one script to his name (albeit a great one).

If they get a vet signed on, it would go a long way to dissuade dissenters.

Yeah. But at least Batman/Superman has Chris Terrio, so perhaps that's all the help that is needed there, I don't know. But yeah, I think further out, they might want to go with more of a team effort.

Ben Affleck. Even if he doesn't get an official writing credit I'm sure he has his hands all over this thing.

This is my hope.

Even Before he signed on, WB came to him with the chance to direct JL as well as MOS on separate occasions. Obviously he's their golden child right now, and even though he's starring in the film, I hope his impact behind the camera is just as effective as in front of it.

They should absolutely go with a team effort. There are flaws in Goyer's script that lay people can recognize. Surely, as a studio that specializes in these things, they would know about these flaws too. I don't think Goyer is talentless and he should be kept on these movies, but many movies have multiple writers. Why shouldn't the $200 million movie get multiple writers? Even with BvsS, we don't know for sure how much Terrio is doing. Although it's a good sign that he's doing anything at all. In terms of scripts, I would say 2 writers are almost always better than one.

If he did, it would be a boneheaded move to not advertise that everywhere.

No, I think Affleck's deal (if this Snyder/JL rumor pans out) involves either solo Batman's or guaranteed passion projects. Otherwise there is no reason not to let everyone know Hollywood's most talented actor/director is actively a part of the creative process.

I would rather take Goyer than some writer who completely disregards comic books, Goyer at least sticks to comic books for inspiration and characters.

Rumor has it that Kurt Johnstad and maybe Jonah Nolan worked on MOS. They might not be credited, but they're there.

Yeah, I agree.

Then again, Cowboys & Aliens had FOUR screenwriters and that thing was a piece of sh**, so... who knows, lol.

I don't think that was ever confirmed and if true, they may not have contributed much.

Lol, yeah. It's crucial to get good writers.

Green Lantern had multiple writers as well. :oldrazz:

Actually, that might be part of WB's trepidation. They've made a lot of money with Goyer's work, and critical and fan reactions at worst have been mixed. GL, in contrast, was panned by critics, loathed by fans and was a massive financial bomb. There are many reasons for that, but the flaws in the script can't be denied so perhaps they're leery of bringing in too many screenwriters.

I just don't understand why they don't just grab Morrison, Snyder, Johns, Waid, etc, stick em in a room and let them brainstorm, or let them have a read of the script to give feedback.

I'm sure they'll do it for free because they love these characters so much.

I wonder this about most CBMs.

I don't know. Godzilla had a revolving door of writers, now that I think about it.

Well, comic book writing and screenwriting are two different things. But yeah, I think letting those guys have some input would help.
