Gallagher lambasts White Stripes over Coca-Cola ad
by Daniel Farey-Jones Brand Republic 8 Dec 2005

LONDON - Noel Gallagher has berated White Stripes' frontman Jack White for writing a song for a Coke ad, saying it was as bad as doing an ad for McDonald's.

White revealed last month that he accepted Coca-Cola's invitation to write a song "along one theme of love in a worldwide form" for an ad, and Noel is not impressed.

The Oasis guitarist told the NME: "Jack White has just written a song for Coca-Cola. End of. He ceases to be in the club. And he looks like Zorro on doughnuts, I don't believe in adverts. He's meant to be the posterboy for the alternative way of thinking.

"Coca-Cola man. ****ing hell. And OK, you want to spread your message of peace and love, but do us all a ****ing favour. I'm just not having it. It's like doing a ****ing gig for McDonald's."

Hypocritical Oasis Get $1m Advert Deal Weeks after slamming Jack White's Coke song...
by Chris Taylor on 2/11/2006

Oasis have signed a one million dollar advertising deal – weeks after slamming Jack White for working with Coca-Cola.

The rockers are reportedly receiving the princely sum for allowing telecommunications company AT&T use their track All Around The World on a new TV advert.

But Oasis have been accused of gross hypocrisy after outspoken guitarist Noel Gallagher ripped into White Stripes star Jack White for writing a song for a Coca-Cola commerical.

He said, “Jack White has just done a song for Coca Cola. End of. He ceases to be in the club.

"He's supposed to be the porter boy for the alternative way of thinking. I'm not having that, that's wrong.

"Particularly Coca Cola, it is like doing a gig for McDonalds."

If you wasnt some realy fun upbeat music try The Go! Team

The Network is another cool band. They're a new-wave group comprised of the members of Green Day and two guys from Devo.

Recntly I've been listening to Against Me!, Bloc Party, Death From Above 1979, Metric, and Maximo Park

I hate teh Gallagher brothers. They're a couple of arses. Sounds like someone's jealous of Jack White's popularity. Oasis hasn't been relevant in years, anyway.

It's Official: ALICE IN CHAINS Is Back! - Feb. 21, 2006

ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell's official web site administrator, who goes by the name of "ceojc", has confirmed that the band will be reuniting for an appearance at the Nova Rock festival in Austria in mid-June (web site), with "a lot more" concert dates yet to be announced.

"I hate to keep on saying this, but as most of you have heard, ALICE will be performing at Nova Rock in Austria," "ceojc" writes on Cantrell's official message board. "This is true. ALICE is back.

"Europe is a long way to go for just one show, so I feel that we are going to have a lot more to do.

"Because this is Europe and a big festival, don't count on any special ALICE tickets but you never know what the future brings.

"Let me explain why things went down the way they went down. It was not the way we wanted it to happen. The festival promoter secured a bunch of really big bands like METALLICA, GUNS N' ROSES and ALICE. The promoter decided to have a big press conference on Monday [Feb. 20]. We had not finished securing the 'business side' of the show by the time Monday rolled around. Because Monday was President's Day, our office was closed and we could not make a decission regarding releasing the info to you guys. Our European agent, because our office was closed, made an executive decision to release the show info. We fully support his choice but could not say anything untill we spoke to him to get the full stroy and due to the time difference and travel we could not make the announcement untill just now.

"Guys, please remember that nothing is official unless it comes from our office. We like to surprise you but sometimes that is not always possible.

"Jerry, Mike [Inez, bass], Sean [Kinney, drums] and the managment team are doing our best to keep you guys informed. You mean a lot to the guys and they want you to know that."

ALICE IN CHAINS frontman Layne Staley died on April 5, 2002 from a mixture of heroin and cocaine. Staley was found dead two weeks later, surrounded by intravenous drug paraphernalia in his Seattle apartment. The death certificate reads Staley's death resulted from "an acute intoxication due to the combined effects of opiate (heroin) and cocaine." The death was classified as "accidental."

As previously reported, COMES WITH THE FALL vocalist/guitarist and member of Jerry Cantrell's touring band William DuVall has been tapped to sing lead vocals with ALICE IN CHAINS at the taping of an episode of VH1 Classic's "Decades Rock Live!", a tribute to HEART that will take place March 10 at the Trump Taj Mahal in Atlantic City. It is not presently clear if DuVall will be joining the group on any of the other dates that are currently being scheduled.

check out the first song, BAMBOO....though the only true way to experience these guys and fully appreciate them is at a live show. they finishing up a few east coast shows right now....then they're hitting up SXSW and going to the west coast. i HIGHLY reccomend checking them out live...i've dragged many people to their shows, and every single one left a fan needing more and more. plus, these kids are on the fast track to being huge.

coca-cola came to him wanting to use a white stripes song for a commercial, but theres no way in hell jack would ever do something like that. but, jack is a huge coca cola fan, its his favorite drink, and he's always considered it to be the greatest drink ever made (this has been something obvious way before this coke deal thingy). so he agreed to write a jingle for them. he's just writing it, not performing it. last i heard, i think he wrote it, but for some reason or another, plans for it got shelved or something like that.

William Shatner's 2004 album Has Been is surprizingly fantastic. Ben Folds produced it and got a bunch of good musicians to play behind Shatner's spoken word. There's multiple styles on the album too. Rock, country, jazz, etc

anybody caught Matisyahu last night on Conan?

I'm a little leary about this. I'm a big Alice fan, but this might turn out like the new Queen or that 20th Century Doors thing.

and who's gonna be the singer again?

He opened up for the Misfits 5 or 7 years ago when they were touring these parts.

:)

I haven't been listening to anything as of late (moving into a new house will tire you out), but I've been feeling an urge for the Buzzc0cks lately...

Yeah. That's what I'm afraid of. Honestly, I think they should continue as a three piece with Jerry on lead vocals. Or get another guitarist to Jerry doesn't have to pull double duty as much. Jerry's vocals are very similar to Layne's.

Cool. I like how he also has this punk/metal side to him.

My Morning Jacket's "Z" is a pretty good album, especially tracks 5 and 7.

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere, but a search brought up nothing.

Artist called José Gonzáles, album called Veneer. Apparently it's from 2003, but it just became available (and got pretty big) where I get my mzk, so I never heard it until now.

Genre is "acoustic" on iTunes...basically just one of those singer/guitar player guys, yknow the type, they're all over the place. But it's so, so good. :O :o
