The police can do this now?

I just got a letter in the mail today saying that I was issued a ticket 2 months ago and that now I have to pay a late penalty, but WHA?

I was never issued any ticket! I wasn't pulled over that day, I didn't get anything in the mail 2 months ago! How can the police just sit in their cars and issue tickets without letting anybody know about it?

Ok, I can pay the ticket if I have to, but there's no way I'm paying a late fee when I wasn't told about this ticket in the first place.

Is there something that I can do about this? :cmad:

What was the ticket for? Some cities have the camera's up on the stop lights now that if you run a red light or something like that they snap a picture of you, your car, and your license plate. And then just mail you the ticket. Don't know if this is the same thing or not...

Maybe it was sent to you in the mail but it went missing/taken, it's happened to me before.

If you were never issued the ticket, then fight it....why pay for something you didn't do? The only way you can be issued a ticket if there is visual proof of you doing something wrong like a EZ pass camera, or camera at a red light. If your just going to pay the ticket and be done with it, I would definately fight the late fee. Let them know you never received anything.

I agree with Dark Donnie, if you never received the ticket and didn't do the offence, fight it. Ask the department for a copy of the original ticket and then set up a court date.

Just go to court and fight it.

It could have been as simple as a parking ticket that blew off, or was removed from your vehicle.

Don't automatically assume that the Police are screwing with you...

This notice should tell what the ticket is for, could've been a parking ticket or one of those stop light cameras. I've had a couple instances where a parking ticket blew off my car and never received the notice, tried to fight it and lost. You're pretty much screwed.

Apparently it was a moving violation and I probably did do it. I'm saying that I was never sent a ticket when it was apparently issued and I shouldn't have to pay any late fee.

The nature of the ticket will be the ammo. If it's not for a moving violation, you could have been parked somewhere and they ticketed. If it's for a moving, and you were nowhere that day, they'd have to have some proof.

If thats the case, I would think they would be reasonable and waive the late fees

bottom line: if you show up to court (if that's still an option), they will pry reduce either some of the fees or points if it costs you points on your license (your choice usually)
