Yah, I coined it...

In the last few years, the hype has been going through a poster and thread recession.

Quality posters are down

Spam Threads are up

Decent hardworking threads have been made redundant or moved to celebrities or the community diner, Threads that were the BACKBONE of Community's economy.

In these dark times on the hype, where can we turn?

who can we turn to?

In which posters, mods and thread ideas shall we invest in to build a BIGGER BADDER AND BOLDER COMMUNITY????

It's time folks for change....

We need to join together through this Poster Pinch and unite as one people under a common cause to bring BACK COMMUNITY.

Don't get me wrong my fellow hypsters, this isn't a thread about reflection, it's about revolution, we need to move forward as one community with one CLEAR agenda. That is to not make this place suck donkey balls with no films are released.

now i know 2009 is a hard time, we have slim pickings superhero film wise, this is why if we don't hold together now, there may not be a COMMUNITY worth SAVING tomorrow.

So I urge you to gather round and brainstorm with me a way to make COMMUNITY's Better and BRIGHTER FUTURE happen here today and fight our way through this Poster Pinch.

who's with me?

I've single handily tried saving the Lounge, but I'm not a miracle worker.

What does the Lounge need in order to thrive, I've personally never been apart of that establishment,

let me HEAR your PAIN BROTHA

I never got why the Community was so important to a lot of people. The more "superhero-y" forums of this place are waaay more vital to me. I actually don't mind people leaving the Community, b/c chances are they're off socializing w/ real people. If the comic book section were to go through a recession, then I'd have a prob.

But community is where we all come to stick out times like this year with only 3 superhero films expected.

Community is where all the magic 'should' happen.

What is this 'outside' place you speak of?, is it part of the tech support boards?

It's funny. I use this place as more of a comic book resource than comic films. Hmm.

I always try to make quality threads and keep them active.

As for the superhero films, I never came/come here for them, just comic books.

Maybe I should look into a comic-centric message board as well. Like CBR.

I've noticed that shift as well, not to mention animation

although a large part of the animation/tv shows section is just time killing.

currently there's wolverine and the x-men and spectacular spiderman, heroes and smallville that keep this place ticking on, but even they do have their breaks

I've always liked to believe you started coming to hype for the film news but ended up staying because of the community or some lounge-esque community within a section.

but there is less of an emphasis on the community aspect which makes the site feel more formal...

I think it's the lynch pin of the site and it needs to be a focal point once again for posters sticking around even when there's nothing to do. The only ones that do that are the older ones who just do it out of habbit BUT we need to get the rest of folks coming in.

I'm a believer in a free poster economy. The less moderation the better. Cut away the waste threads and encourage more posting.

Initially coming for comic movie news and staying for.....the Community? No way brother, at least def not for me. There's an endless amount of comic book news to talk about, since the books come out every week:-)up:). And even in the movie threads, people are always chatting about something.

what keeps you posting in community then?

I jump around a fair amount through the comic book threads. I don't always post though cause I sometimes feel like I am not as knowledgable as everyone else. Plus people tend to belittle you or try to talk down to you if they think you don't know enough or if they have been reading for longer.(you know the people I'm talking about too). So I figure why waste the energy sometimes?

You just gotta dive in man. Corp tries to belittle me, but he knows I'll beat him up if I'm ever in FL so I take it on the chin :o:cmad:

I understand but it's always been like that with us though, which makes me feel slightly worried because i don't always have scans available to back things up or my comic collection around to talk about.

You just have to wing it.

anywho, 4k in in five months, where are you doing all your posting?

and how come it's not in community?

When i haven't read my comic books yet and don't wanna be spoiled. Once I read 'em, I forget this part of the message board exists.
Alright let's look at this way.

What would ideally keep you posting in community

interesting subjects, funny subjects, random games, heated debates, chilled out atmosphere, members you're 'friends' with, etc...

what would be your necessary qualities?

What we need is for Erz to be a mod. And Jag needs to return.
and we need an eqivelent of GR87.

I don't see anything wrong with the lounge
I want more discussion and less.

Hi everyone.
Okay I'm getting a bologna sandwich.

Followed by several minutes of a poster after saying goodbye waiting for the other people to say bye to him or her.

I agree. I used to go into the Lounge more often, but I hate the "hi" "bye" thing.

i figure alot of people have lost the people who provided impertus for them. and there's no one rising to the occasion.

and for me most of the philosophic posters don't post anymore so there's nothing really worth discussing. you get to the stage where you're just correcting factual errors and some others seem to have taken up that baton and that's fair enough.

I try to visit the lounge but the conversations are too fast paced. I'm usually online at work so I'm sometimes busy doing things.

Less kids. Plain and simple. I think enough mature adults left to their own devices can come up with entertaining conversation topics.

Thing is SHH is becoming more kid friendly, with the rationale well we get a lot of kids because of the movies, and we don't want their parents, etc.

But I've stated this before, I think we can have a more adult site with more posters participating than if we have a kid friendly site.
