Cartoon Network is bringing back an updated version of “The Powerpuff Girls” in 2016, chief content officer Rob Sorcher announced at the 2014 Licensing Expo in Las Vegas on Monday. The original series, following the adventures of Professor Utonium's Buttercup, Blossom and Bubbles as they save the city of Townsville from destruction, ran for six seasons between 1998 and 2005, winning two Emmy Awards.

The girls returned earlier this year for a successful special, which featured Ringo Starr; next, they will appear in a rebooted TV series.
“Powerpuff Girls,” created by Craig McCracken and powered by sugar, spice and Chemical X, is one of Cartoon Network's top-grossing brands to date, with more than $2.5 billion in retail sales.

Will it have the same animation as that special that aired earlier this year. Because I thought that was crappy

it was tough to take, but I grew to kind of like it, though the original animation is the one I'm more used to...

I didn't mind the animation once I actually saw it in motion.

I've yet to see that special, but I wasn't feeling the animation in the commercials and such.

Yessss. Sure, the girls will still take some time to get used to in their new designs, but I thought that the Professor and Mojo looked better than before. I eagerly await to see the new Him and even Fuzzy Lumpkins.

The new animation doesn't bother me so much, it's the story that does. I honestly don't even remember the plot of the special, it wasn't very memorable. And why a reboot? That means their going to restart from the beginning right? I hate to be that person, but why can't they leave well enough alone?

Catherine Cavadini, E.G. Daily, and Tara Stong will not return as Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles respectively. Instead, Amanda Leighton, Natalie Palamides, and Kristen Li will voice Blossom, Buttercup, and Bubbles respectively with Tom Kenny reprising his roles as both the Narrator and the Mayor.

very disappointing that the original voice actors won't be back... I sure hope the newbies are up to it to sound like those 'perfect little girls'... I HAD hoped for a return to the original animation, but NOW with the news of new voice actors, they might as well keep the animation from the 2015 PPG special...

Tara Strong doesn't seem too happy... :sus

wow, sounds like the original three voice actors were passed over without any sort of contact by the PTB behind this new version of PPG... what a s**ty way to treat them, is such is the case... if this IS the case, then despite my loving the PPG's, I hope this new PPG series fails miserably... it's got to be the original three or nothing... if they're still willing to do it, then what's the problem that they went to new voice actors?...

Why did they make their heads bigger? And seemingly younger?

They really want to play up their roles and personalities within the group.

And the designs are so simple, it should be very hard to mess up.

They look exactly the same.

I am a bit upset that the original voice actors won't be returning. But I don't think the designs look bad at all.

As long as it's good as the original show, I'm fine with that.

Nah the designs are really different. They look more generic now compared to the previous ones. The hair is especially noticeable as well as the awkward head and body shapes. It reminds me of the later designs from Dexter's Laboratory after Genndy Tartakovsky left.

To be fair they could look better in motion.

The only differences are Bubbles' ponytail braids, Blossom's bow being round instead of square, and Buttercup's added hair sticking up. The colors and head sizes were never truly consistent. Seriously, changes so minor that it doesn't matter.
