How do you feel about the Silver Age and it's characters and mythos sort of coming to the forefront today?

I have mixed feelings about it so far

It's not the Silver Age coming to forefront, it's just the characters. If it was the actual Silver Age coming back, with its one-issue storylines and fun, I'd be extremely happy. But it's just Silver Age characters being steeped into the blood and the grim and gritty.

Same here. Actually I felt the Bronze Age was the right mix of fun and mature comics. SA too silly, modern comics too dark.

I'm like it they're putting the best parts of the silver/bronze ages and put it in todays gritty grim world with DCs best workers(Geoff John, Grant Morrison, etc) leading the revoloution. (yes I'm a silver/bronze age fan:cwink:)

I hate it... I used to buy all kinds of DC books... now I can count them on one hand (excluding the Vertigo books)...

:csad:

I feel bad for putting alot of the blame on one guy but....Geoff Johns is kind of at fault. I know he just comes up with the ideas and in the end its the company who backs him but still

His work on GL is great. I'm glad he brought Hal back, Im really looking forward to Blackest Night

But Flash Rebirth  boring and uninteresting and so far Im not impressed I hope by the end of the arc that it turns out decent. Also what was the point of bringing Barry back at all?

ANd even though it hasnt come out I'm worried about Superman Secret Origins maybe Johns will change my mind but I hate that its not gonna take place on Krypton and that Superman will be Superboy before moving to Metropolis. Superman Birthright was near perfect IMO

I think Johns should just stick to GL titles

I put the blame on Dan DiDio. Johns is just a writer. If editors wanted to stop him from propping up the Silver Age again, they could have done so easily. No, this came straight down from the top with DiDio. He's come right out and admitted that Hal and Barry's returns were direct results of his desire to see them come back.

I'm not worried about anything at DC, though. I've moved past worrying to not caring. Audiences clearly respond to the Silver Age revivals, so I've accepted that DC is just moving in a direction I'm uninterested in and dropped most of my DC comics. Whenever the pendulum looks like it'll start swinging my way again, I'll give some of DC's bigger comics another try. Until then, I'm content with my handful of fringe titles (and Batman and Robin, which is both big and fun).

how good is Batman and Robin. I havent had a chance to read it yet

It's pretty good. I like the reversed dynamic between Dick and Damian and the story Morrison is setting up looks like it'll have the right mix of twisted freakiness, detective work, and adventure that makes Batman fun.

You haven't even read it. You just don't like Barry Allen. You started this thread to help boost your anti-Barry argument. :whatever:

How do I feel about it? As long as we don't see the return of the actual silver age, I'm fine with it. I want to see some of the silver age characters and plots get modern/"post crisis" characterization.

....and I hope Bruce Wayne comes back as Batman soon. I want to see Geoff Johns on a JLA book in 2010 or 2011. I want Barry as Flash, Hal as GL, Bruce Wayne as Batman, and of course Martian Manhunter and Aquaman on the team. Obviously, I want Superman and Wonder Woman too. I think it will be great to see the actual original, big, iconic 7 lienup reunite again. If they need a tagline for it I would call it JLA: IMMORTAL, because every one of the big, original 7 has died and came back. They're too great to keep dead. :)

A lot of writers, including Johns, Morrison, and Brad Meltzer wanted to see those two back. They'd get writers who wanted to bring them back for years but DC editorial wouldn't allow it. They had sort of a "anything 'old' can never be cool" motto back then. Mark Waid, the Wally West facsist, was the biggest voice against bringing Barry back. Yet he loves all the other silver age stuff. Weird....

1) I have read it so far, and I dont like it so far :whatever: and I dont hate Barry I just vastly prefer Wally...get your facts straight and dont pull random things out of the air. ANd it might get better in the end but right now I dont like Flash Rebirth deal with it

Some stories are enjoyable.

Other things are just "huh? Again?"

1) I have read it so far, and I dont like it so far

Based on all your previous posts and "accusations" about the series before, all evidence points to you being unfamiliar with it. Maybe you've read it since then, but if you want me to believe you you'll have to do more than just generalize about the book when you complain about it. Like what is it that's your main problem with it? Other than it being about Barry Allen of course (another generalization).

and I dont hate Barry I just vastly prefer Wally...

:lmao:

I completely agree with you. Didio, along with Johns, Meltzer, Morrison and even Judd Winick wanted to bring back silver age characters. Most characters we loved get screwed over from Cassandra Cain to Wally West and I find this deplorable. It's live writers and editors want to please themselves and not theie audience.

FYI, Didio still wants to kill off Dick Grayson regardless of "changing his mind" about what he thinks of him as Nightwing.

Why can't they just write all the characters? There isn't any reason why we all shouldn't be able to enjoy our favorites. I think they can and should all coexist.

Yet, Didio and company still won't give a damn. Sad, but true

Well, some people, myself included, felt that Barry being dead added a lot more to the stories than his being alive ever did.

No reason. I don't feel like each character gets his proper due that way--you always end up with one "star" character and then "those other guys"--but I'm beyond caring about what DC does at this point.

Yep, the idea of character's coexisting in pure equality is a nice dream, but it's a dream none the less. Whenever a character goes from The [insert name here] to a [insert name here] something is going to give eventually.

Corp has it right though, DC obviously is no longer playing to the demographic me and him belong to, so it doesn't do much good to care about it.
