Comics The Return of Slott

He makes some interesting points, one of which I comment on here: http://forums.superherohype.com/showthread.php?t=302352&page=10

and others that will be discussed on other boards, but I find it quite interesting just how giving the interview is. He's responding to criticism almost instantly and without being too abrasive or mocking of fans like JQ is sometimes. I like a lot, and I'm really warming to Slott. I love Avengers the Initiative and liked his work on the Thing and She-Hulk even though I didn't read too much (not really my kinda characters). I'm so glad he's on this book. :)

“All the [classic] stories with MJ still happened,” Slott explained. “It’s just now they were a couple living together instead of being married. So there’s a long, wonderful, rich history with these characters.

I am tired of this statement that Slott makes. It is beyond asinine.

Changing history, never marrying, but saying that now instead they lived together and every story is the same is SO dippy and INSULTING. :cmad:

Might I add...there is NOT a "rich wonderful history" now, because it has been ALTERED..!! But, i guess we need to be spoon fed and accept how wonderful this alternate history is.

Dan Slott is a great writer. There is no denying that. When I first heard of him jumping on board ASM, the thought of him writing the marriage instantly popped into my head. Damn that would have been great. I was so excited and yet I'm not even collecting ASM at the moment. The stories just don't interest me. Maybe I was a bigger fan of MJ than I once thought. Having MJ with some other guy just seems so weird to me. Then again, the entire BND saga has seemed like an alternate reality as far as I'm concerned.

And much like you farmer, I'm tired of all the writers going on and on about "Everything still happened" with Peter/MJ. Yea....they just don't remember any of it.....Riiiighttt...:whatever:

He says in the interview that they still happened and people DO still remember them, just while they were in a long term relationship. What I'll then find interesting is howthey explain why they didn't get married. (Unless it's already been covered and I missed something) I hope Slott addresses this one day soon. Maybe... Venom attacked at the wedding? That would have been cool. I have the wedding issue and zzzz.... is it boring! lol.

The marriage didn't happen though. Well, wait..it did happen they just don't remember it or something to that extent. I really hope there's some reasoning behind MJ being in this "relationship" with this other guy. Marvel has dropped the ball on so much, don't mess up with that too. Try to add a bit of logic to it....Please....

Like Pete being bitter with Mj at the end/intro of OMD/BND.
It does not make sense how "something happened at the wedding" and the two wouldn't wed....yet they would live together for so long.

I thought Joe Q was the only one saying everything still happened, although it is only natural that they go along with what he says (no matter how stupid it sounds).

Anyway, I think Slott is a good guy, but overall, I have not cared for this new direction in ASM. I'm not even sure if I really care for the reason why Peter and MJ never got married. Joe Q took a monster dump and now its up to his staff to clean up his mess. Not cool or fair to them IMO.

MJ showing up was no surprise to me. Heck, I think we all saw it coming. As for why she's with a jerk like Carr, I don't think I even care. But calling Carr "tiger" IMO is a serious no, no.

Roger Stern is writing a one shot, or an ASM Annual that will depict what happened on that faithful wedding day... so explanations are coming.

:yay:

Of course it's been "altered"... they never married.

Why is it so difficult to understand that what they went through as an unmarried couple is beyond me, but some people just have a hard time with change... I understand how much OMD sucked donkey balls, but the end result is some fantastic Spider-Man fun (the best I've read in years), and I hope that some explanations will come, such as the ressurection of Harry Osborn.

The history that Peter and MJ shared is still somewhat intact... albeit tweaked, but a minor tweak doesn't take away the "rich history"...

I don't know... maybe I'm just getting senile in my old age...

He and Marv Wolfman have been one of the strongest advocates against the Spider-Marriage... so I'm sure he's taking great delight in writing this story.

That's not just a minor tweak....:csad:
People don't interact the same with a girlfriend as they would with a wife...

That's an ignorant comment.

I know a couple that have been together since 1972... never married, and more in love than most married people I know.

Peter and Mary Jane had some good romantic history before the wedding... there's no reason why they wouldn't see each other with such love in their eyes... marriage or no marriage.

And that, my good friend Styleshift, is merely MY two cents.

:yay:

Marvels real problem with Mj is that she essentially became another Venom.

1. Overexposure
2. Quick Character development
3. Bad Writing.

That's what killed there marriage. Every time this guys get a story in the news they try to milk the crap out of it. These are about money hungry people here.

They seem to think that having a depressed peter parker all the time like the movies is what people secretly need in the spider-man franchise...

The strongest scene I've seen using a supporting character was in the identity crisis storyline. Peter saved the everyone from being crushed by the daily bugle building i believe. but everyone hated him at the time. He walks past Mj and she can't comfort him like she wants but at least he knew he'd always have her support....
now we have a spiderman that just about everyone hates.

No,
Thinking that two people who chose not to wed because "something happened on there special day" yet having them live together for years is ignorance pal.

A wedding means alot to a female.
Not only that but while marvel is already asking an audience to suspend there belief because we're reading about a boy who was bit by the science bug and got amazing powers. there asking us to suspend all logic. which is pretty insulting. Years of Milking Spidey's characters from Villian to Mj.

and now it's Spidey's turn.
We'll see things return soon. maybe years from now. but the Spidey the depressed loser will get old soon enough...

Well, seeing as we don't know what happened on their special day, assuming that you still can't love one another that much is an assumption, and making assumptions reeks of ignorance.

Look, I don't want to get into a pissing match with you, but marriage is not the end all/be all of love. I'm a happilly maaried man and I love my wife like no one else can, but I also know people who love their mates as much and have been doing it longuer and are not married. So I guess that weddings don't mean as much to some females (I'll let this yet another assumption on your part slip by :oldrazz: ).

And if you ask many of the current readers of ASM, many of them will tell you that their characters (Spidey & his great supporting staff) have all been rejuvinated by the current direction.

Spidey was a pretty big loser for 26 years, and was still going strong before the "forced" marriage... so I'm thinking that the "Spidey the depressed loser will get old soon enough" statement will yet again become just another assumption on your part...

... unless you have a crystal ball or something... :wow:

Cheers...

Mike

Your right we shouldn't be arguing over one difference.
Just depends on how many times you want Peter to be depressed because Spider-man is getting in the way of his relationship. that tends to get a bit old....I just can't imagine why he'd try to continue to date if thats the cause of his relationships always failing

and well we all know that if they run into another long term issue like new powers or crappy villians....magic will solve it and than maybe he'll regress enough to where he acts like he's 16 this time. :)

lol....as long as they keep dishing out good stories that aren't repetitive and or forced. and they have better integrity about things and don't make crappy easy fixes. make marvel mine.
later ater. ;)

This discussion between you guys brings a question to mind that I haven't seen anyone else ask...

If Pete and MJ lived together for years and have this rich history... than how can MJ not know Peteer is Spider-Man?

Didn't the very first intro in BND explain specifically that NO ONE knows Spider-Man's identity? NO ONE...

There is no explanation alive that can explain how MJ would share her un-married life with Peter Parker without knowing he was Spider-Man...

And if you guys argue that she DID know, but now she (along with everyone else) simply forgot... than her entire memories of her life with Peter would be completely altered!!! So did Mephisto give her NEW memories of her years with Peter? Or are there gaps there now? UGH, either way, it's all just so stupid!

Only my opinion... but I think I've made a pretty reasonable case here. :o

So the original marriage issue won't mean anything anymore cause it never happened?

heh wow....

Come on USMC....

It's magic....It doesn't have to make sense.:oldrazz:

Which is why I said changing the marriage is not just a minor tweak.:csad:
when you read the back issues...you'll see they really messed it up big time. and our hoping we ignore all this and just keep buying.

The one thing thats still baffling me is that Slott STILL insists that the Avengers:Initiative #7 story still happened and is still very important to Spidey's current status quo. But if Mephisto made everybody forget his identity then what role does A:I #7 have to do with anything????
