Many fans speculated that if Mr. Burton had stayed on to do Batman III, Riddler would've been one of the villains or prospective villains. A fansite dedicated to Burton's Batman III speculated that Edward Nygma would have been a psychologist Bruce started seeing following the events of Batman Returns. Eventually, Nygma would've discovered Bruce was Batman.

Now, in what ways could such an incarnation of The Riddler use this knowledge to play mind games with Batman?

Sounds like Burton would've changed Riddler into Hugo Strange...

agreed. the character described is Hugo, not Riddler. Strange would have fit in perfectly in Burtons worlds.

Donald Pleasance would have been a great Hugo Strange.

If Burton even used the Riddler at all. What are some of the ways Hugo Strange played "mindgames" with Batman, then? Whether or not the change is intentional I do not know. I do know that I read a quote from Burton in a sig here on the Hype Forums where he claimed to have never read a comic book. That could be attributed to the speculated change in character.

to me, the riddler doesnt seem very much like a burton character. scarecrow does, not riddler. i woner if riddler would be more of a nolan character, because of the use of story and thinking that nolan ussually is good at.

Yeah, both Burton and Singer are the first to admit that the comic book isnt something they partiucarly grew up with a great fondness for. So deviating from what The Riddler is usually presented as, isnt really surprising to be perfectly honest. Especially with how The Penguin himself was given a unique change (and some would say an improvement) in Batman Returns. I have to agree that The Scarecrow is indeed, much more of a Burton-esque kind of character than The Riddler would seem to be.

He would have had to. From the start, WB wanted to use all 4 of the popular villains from the 60's campy show. So Riddler was always going to be the main baddie in Batman 3. Burton would have given him a unique change though, just like he did with Penguin.

what makes you say that? poison ivy wasnt on the 60's show i dont think, or bane.

im just glad burton got the best 3, the classic bat villians, joker, penguin and catwoman.

it has never been officialy stated that they were going to use Riddler if Burton did a third movie. This was all started on the internet.

Well, by the time they were making Batman & Robin, all the popular 60's show villains had been done (Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler).

So they had to use the lesser-known ones from the comics (Freeze, Ivy, Bane).

However, by the time they were doing B&R, Batman:TAS was already on the air for afew years and pretty much all the villains were known. Mr.Freeze also had been in the 60's show and was played by 3 different actors and had also been in the Filmation cartoons.

Freeze obviously would have been the logical choice for one of the next villains following Batman Forever, since the intention from day 1 was to make the next film more kid friendly, and "toyetic". Bringing in a character like The Scarecrow would suggest a darker film, which was from what I hear, the intention for the proposed Batman film following Batman & Robin.

EGGHEAD!!LMAO!! vincent price was hilarious as that guy.

I would have loved to of seen Burton's version of Mr. Freeze.

Riddler in a burton batman would have been great i would still have used Jim Carey but would ask him to tone done the character a bit to make him more like the unbeleivable performance Gorshin did with the character.

hugo strange? is that the same guy as the clock king?
