The Road

Locked away in a vault deep within the heart of Weinstein Studios.

Last rumor I read was that they were saving it for fall, so it will be released closer to Oscar time. I can't wait to see it either, the book was incredible.

Here in Czech it was moved from this May to December so I think taht it'll be similar in US.

Make sense to move it towards oscar season. Me and my brother were talking about this the other week saying how it's going to tough to promote being that it's probabley the most depressing and uplifting story ever written.

16th of October is the new release date for Finland, too. Used to be in August, I think.

a trailer now would be nice

hhm the road and where the wild things are released on the same day... well thats 20 bucks i can consider spent

I get angry when to thread shows up again and again without a frakkin trailer!:bh:

The Weinsteins usually release a trailer and market a movie as late as possible. At the earliest, we'll probably get a trailer at the end of summer.

good artical, sucks that weinstein can't see why giving an explaination for the world is not needed and unwanted. at least it won't be in the film.

It's about damn time.

Unless this movie turns out to be a dud (which would shock me at this point), I'd say an Oscar nomination for Mortensen is in the bag.

It sounded as if Weinstein didn't even care about the movie in some parts and in others like it meant a lot to him. Weird guy...I don't want an explaination for what happened either. I want to start in the post-apocalyptic world and not revisit why on a large scale like it sounds they are doing.

I will quote a comment from slashfilm :
boo. bad trailer. where's the heart, the soul, the fear, the sadness? why did they sell this as a thriller and not as a big important oscar worthy movie? bad call dimension.
.. because that's exactly how i feel. the trailer should've been like the "assassination of jesse james" one : calm, sad, beautiful.
this trailer sells the movie like it was "I am Legend 2"

Wow. Nice visuals.

Look slike an action movie though... That's not the buzz I was getting.

And sadly, there seems to be no, or very little original score in this trailer.

Exacty the vibe I got from the trailer. JoBlo actually summed it up for me.

In an article the other day in Esquire, their writer called THE ROAD the "most important" movie of 2009. Of course he also went on to caution that The Weinstein Co. was threatening to **** it all up with their marketing campaign. They warned that the trailer would try to explain what happened that led to post-apocalyptic future in the movie, something that was never explained in the book or by its author Cormac McCarthy. Sure enough at the beginning of this trailer, we have stock footage of lighting, fires and tidal waves with a newscast voiceover. The movie looks awesome but this trailer isn't really helping the cause.

I was definitely expecting something slower, and meditative. Even if it was closer to No Country For Old Men's trailer, rather than TAoJJ. This, including the Terminator Salvation static noise (actually exactly the same) is poor marketing.

this is really poor marketing because the tone of the book is like No Country For Old Men but set in a post apoc world.

I guess they decided I am Legend made how much and the Assassination of Jesse made how much?

I really hope they're not planning to explain what caused the end of the world in the movie. Not knowing what caused it was one of the more stirring things about the book.
