The Road

I haven't read the book, but I have been very interested in this movie since the moment I heard about it. However, after waiting so long for a trailer, I was a tad disappointed at the trailer we got.

I was hoping for a bleak, slow-burn story kind of like No Country for Old Men but the trailer really makes it seem like it's some kind of action movie or "Day After Tomorrow" movie.

I hope it's just the trailer. I want this to be really awesome.

i gotta disagree on that part. i think that was kind of one of the themes of the book, the fact that these two, father and son, despite having been put through hell and having been desensitized to the world around them still very much care for and love each other and always put each other's well-being before themselves.

In the book, the man never smiled and the son did only once near the beginning. Yes, they cared and loved each other, but they never acted the way Viggo and Kodie are playing the characters.

^hey man as much as i'm for a full adaptation certain things do have to be changed in order to work on screen

i mean i don't want them to be all bubbly and everything but theres gotta be something goin on.

Some day Viggo will win, i just know it.

wait, how are Viggo and Kodie playing the characters?

The movie characters are (of course) going to be a little more "obvious" in their love for each other since we can't read their minds like in the book.

But to those who are having an issue with that, bear in mind; in the book there are countless times where the father spends the night holding his son, among other things that outwardly tell of their love for each other, and attempts to be happy in the world they're living in . It IS about the love of a father and son. If you missed that in the book, i really don't know what to say...

^the recent clips and these posters are exponentially better than that crapfest of a trailer

More reviews from Venice. Not all of them are exactly gushing, but none really have anything particually bad to say about the film. and none out right rip on it like the varity review. It just seems like its a very hard film to get into, but if you do you really like, similar to the novel. seems like it works well as an adaption, and if it suits your tastes as a good film in its own right. I can not wait to see this movie. Also i'm happy that theres actually news about it for once.

Gotta admit, this looks like my kind of movie. I haven't read the book, but I plan on doing so when I find a copy of it. I think my mother may have a copy. Anyways, I really want to see this when it comes out.

Judging from the five clips, Viggo added too much emotion to the character. I know it sounds stupid, but that's my opinion so far. Maybe it will grow on me, I don't know...

^ i don't know man the scenes shown to us are from either very tense or very emotional scenes, even for the most jaded and drained of people, making the decision to shoot your young son in the head would warrent some exhibition of emotion.
finding a giant stockpile of food in a starved world is also quite response evoking.

Even then he seems sufficiently drained to me, and even if he is a bit more emotional than in the book, i'd prefer it to, say, a Ben Stein drone.

^Whatever, dude. To each his own. Also, according to Emmanuel Levy's review, there were some arguments between the director and Harvey Weinstein in the editing room. If the outcome is the deletion of a good amount of scenes, hopefully we'll get a director's cut one day. By the way, he gave it a "B+" rating.

The guy from /film said this:

"The Road was beautifully bleak, incredible performances, challenging to watch, nothing like the trailer, liked it quite a bit."

Good news.

^Good to hear.

edit: Could you post a link? I couldn't find the review on the website.

The posters all look great, especially the second one. Judging from those clips the man with his legs already missing appears to be gone from the basement scene, however these clips are probably heavily edited, like most film clips released online before the movie is out.

It's cool to see Guy Pearce getting some roles again.

Hmm, maybe I'll pick this book up if I ever have an english paper to do in school.

Yeah, he's always been a personal favorite of mine. Apparently, he's near unrecongnizable in the film.
I'm kinda confused about who he's playing...

The guy in the ski jacket at the end, right?
