The Road

The score was pretty forgettable, imo. It wasn't intrusive or anything, but there weren't any memorable cues.

Point out the memorable musical cues in the scores to Slumdog Millionaire, Atonement, Babel, Brokeback Mountain, or Finding Neverland. IMO the last Oscar winning score that deserved to win was Return of the King. Howard Shore was brilliant.

To put it in perspective, the Indiana Jones score was nominated 3 times and never won. Pirates of the Caribbean was not even nominated, despite the fact that it is extremely memorable with a number of cues that are instantly recognizable.

I hope this nails the point home.

I agree.
The only part I really liked was a portion of when the cannibals came home and the Man and the Son had to hide in the bathroom.

Worth seeing definitely. A strong contender for Oscar nominations no doubt.

Hell yes, I'll be suprised if this doesn't get nominated for best cinematography. Each shot that was from the point of view of the Man looking through the binoculars had my jaw to the floor.

I have a sickening feeling this will be get snubbed for all of the major awards...

Well, to be honest, I don't care much for the Oscars now. Though, it can entertaining and can give a lot of unpopular films -- like The Road -- attention from the GA.

Moon is literally a must see.

Science fiction is one of my favorite -- if not my favorie -- genres in any art medium and I like Sam Rockwell. I'm literally broke right now, but I'll definitely rent it when I can gather a few bucks.

Not coming until January I think?

But Dark, The Hurt Locker is definitely a must see. I'm pretty damn confident it's a Best Picture nom lock.

Not out on DVD to my knowledge. :(

I missed Moon when it was in theaters. Really want to see it.

Between that and District 9, it's good to see a year of quality sci-fi films.

Yeah, Sarge and Episode29 liked the Hurt Locker a lot, too. I was on an island throughout the film's release so I did't get a chance to see it.

With The Lovely Bones getting mixed reviews, I think it's probably a longshot for a Best Picture nomination. That's one less movie for The Road to have to compete with for a Best Picture nomination. The Hurt Locker is definitely a lock for a nomination. The Road is not going to win Best Picture, but the nomnination would be well deserved I think.

In all seriousness, I think The Road should get nominated in 4 categories for sure: Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography.

Other potential categories: Best Supporting Actor (it's a weak year for this category, so McPhee could get in), Best Original Score, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

McPhee did a fantastic job, especially for his age.
The scene in which he broke down after nearly being kidnapped wasn nearly heartbreaking.

Yeah, that was a great scene.
