Has anyone read this? I got it as a christmas present and was blown away by it. Its by the same writer that wrote "No Country for Old Men", and its apparently being made into a film by the same production crew that filmed the latter.

Its starring Viggo Mortenson as the Father, Robert Duval as the Old Man, and Charlie Theron (sp?) as the Wife.

I'm really looking forward to this.

It's a great book. I recently brought The Border Trilogy because i was so impressed by Cormac McCarthy's writing.

It's on my list to read. The movie is complete, it's been moved back to be released in March.

good book. very bleak, but enjoyable. kind of wish they would have gone into more detail about the events leading up to it, but very well written and touching.

I got this for christmas and forever reason i have yet to pick it up. I dont know why?

You should go ahead and read it. Very well written.

I picked up his other book, No Country For Old Men (have yet to see the flick) and enjoyed that alot - although the end had me alittle confused.

The ending of the movie for NCFOM had a lot of people confused, too.

The Road is next on my list. I'm a little concerned that the lack of punctuation will spoil it for me as it did with NCFOM. Does it bother anyone else?

Yeah, the lack of qoutations and the endless run-on sentences irked me some, but in the case of The Road, there is little diaolugue, and the story is intriguing enough that his particular style fits it very well.

There aren't enough characters too really confuse dialogue in this one.

I'm reading it. My fears about punctuation have gone.

Seriously, this is a really quick, smooth, and gripping read. I picked it up around lunchtime today and am 2/3s of the way through at present. I'll have it read by the end of the day

thats how NCFOM was for me. I read it in about 6 hours.

I'm going to give that another go after this. I think I can now appreciate his style now that I've gotten used to it with a book that seems to fit my likes more.

I've been looking around for this one. I might have to try amazon or something.

Do you actually do any work at this job of yours Eggy?

Only if I've got nothing to read ;)

I read this for the first time a couple of days ago - did it in two sittings... couldn't put it down. I was kind of blown away, to be honest. I wanted to read it once more before commenting on it.

Just finished reading it for the second time and I can't get over how quick a read this book is; I flew through it both times. What an amazing book, so understated, so sparse. Truly gripping, giving me the shivers when I finished both times.

Cormac McCarthy is carrying the fire.

Reading it right now. About 100 pages in. Surreal and heartbreaking.

I picked it up from the library yesterday, haven't started it yet. I'm going on a road trip to Atlanta this weekend I figured I'd start it then. I had a chat with the libarian and he said he couldn't get into NCFOM due to the writing style and totaly didn't dig the movie. Yes, I'm a dork, I chat with librarians.

I think this thread might get more popular once the movie comes out next month.

My best friend gave it to me to read. She said, "this is the most depressing book I've read in a while, and it I'm depressed you're gonna be depressed too!" She knew I liked 'No Country For Old Men.' I was concerned about the lack of punctuation as at first, but having read 'No Country' I knew what to expect. I finished it in a couple of days (no, I'm not a slow reader, I just have *no time* :oldrazz:) It lingers, I'll tell you that. I thought about that book on and off for several weeks after reading it. Of course I then had to give it to my mom to read. Cause if I was gonna be depressed, so was someone else! :hehe:

So, I bought a new can opener with a white handle, if I drop that sum ***** on the road I can locate it. Now I need to stock up on fuel for my stove. :(
