Kristen Stewart is set to portray Joan Jett in "The Runaways," the rock 'n' roll biopic of the 1970s all-girl band.

Video director Floria Sigismondi wrote the screenplay and is directing, while John and Art Linson and River Road Entertainment's Bill Pohlad are producing. Jett will act as an executive producer.

To give you guys a better idea of how Jett was back in the day (and still is) here's a few clips (thanks to aint it cool news). She had spunk, she was hot, and was damn sassy.

Personally I think Lizzy Caplan would have a been a better choice, espcally with her sexy Cloverfield look.

If you guys are not interested, I'm sorry. I just dig rocking brunettes with bangs.

I wonder who's playing Lita Ford?

Seems to work.

yes, my thread is a minor success so far!

Hard to top a "Hunter starts a new movie thread" lol

i hope it looks good and not like some bright colored mtv music bio pic
i do admit i love my gritty arty bio pics

Oh, f**k no. Horrible casting. Get someone who fits the part for Christ's sake.

This girl has no emotions.......

This girl has no emotions.......
Got that so right, I remember her from that ass movie Catch that Kid and she didn't emote then, then I saw that ass movie Twilight and she just looked confused as to what acting really entails.

If anyone should play Joan Jett, it should be Joan Jett. She still looks great and would probably end up being a better actress that Kristen Stewart.

i'm not very familiar with Joan Jett, but PURELY from a visual perspective i think Elisha Cuthbert resembles young Joan...

Cherie looks pretty hot in that group pic (with the button-down shirt). I wonder who will play her.

That's why I picked that picture of The Runaways.

I like that 70s look on girls. The hair mostly, for some odd reason. I think it's because it's natural beauty and not all made up. I can't speak for them (esp for Lita Ford) when they were in the 80s, however.

Stewart was cute and good in Into the Wild.

Stewarts pretty good. Shes up and coming and has a lot of potential that shes hasnt yet met. This could be good for her.

I love Kristen. She's really got some great untapped potential. I've got faith in her abilities for this.

Do we really need a joan jett film?
Some ask the same question about the Biggie movie. BTW, in case no one knew, this is what Cherie and Joan look like now...

Not the best pic of Cherie, but Joan still looks good.

I would still do terrible, terrible things to Joan Jett.

And it's not a "Joan Jett" movie, it's a movie about the Runaways, which Joan Jett and Lita Ford first came from. And yes, I would see a Joan Jett movie, as she's one of the most influential women in rock and roll history. Hell, she's the first woman to ever start a record lable for gods sake.

By the way, I still don't understand why they are making that Notorious BIG movie. Here's his entire life "I'm a terrible rapper who's friends with another terrible rapper. OH NO I'M DEAD!" The end.

In her defense, she was alright in "Zathura". But that's the only movie I've seen her in.
Her face has emits no emotions what so ever...even in Zathura. It is like every role she plays is a teenager that doesn't care about anything.

Dakota Fanning fronts 'Runaways'
Kristen Stewart set to play Joan Jett in film

Dakota Fanning is negotiating to play lead singer Cheri Currie in "The Runaways," the biopic of the '70s all-girl band that already has "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart playing Joan Jett.

Scripted and directed by Floria Sigismondi, the film begins production in late spring.

At 15, Fanning is the same age Currie was when she made her debut with the Runaways as the lead singer who belted out hard-edged tunes like "Cherry Bomb." Currie became caught up in drugs and a hard-partying lifestyle.

John and Art Linson are producing with River Road Entertainment's Bill Pohlad, with Jett serving as exec producer.

Fanning, who most recently starred in "The Secret Life of Bees" and "Push," and voiced "Coraline," is also booked to play a vampire in the "Twilight" sequel "New Moon."
