The Rush Limbaugh Thread

I read in newsweek he has about 13.5 million listeners.

If his sponsors are willing to pay his radio station then I don't care what he says.

In fact I like when he makes an ass out of himself. He makes the republicans look worse and often helps democrats win by default. His shameful mockery of Micheal J Fox probably helped Democrats win the senate in Missouri.

Keep talking Rush. You're going to push more swing voters to the left with your pig-headed rhetoric.

What Imus said wasn’t near as offensive as the bull **** that Rush is saying.

They just want conservative voices silenced. Just like on these boards.... :yay:

Celldog, shut the hell up. You’re asinine attempts to put yourself in the spot light so you can preach is rubbish is pathetic.

Well, lets see what's more offensive? Calling Sen. Joe Lieberman "a Magical Jew" on conservative radio or calling an Israeli soccer team "hooked nosed rats" on MSNBC?

I've heard rush say worse and dumber statements then that.

If Imus deserved to get fired, then I guess by that rational Rosie O'Donnell should have been fired a while back when she made fun of chinese people by saying "ching chong ching chong ching chong" along with all the other idiotic things she's said... and not fired just recently.

Who called the Israeli soccer team that?

Imus actually had a dog-bite claus in his contract, meaning that he gets a "Get Out Of Jail Free" pass before he can be fired.

He never got that pass, and has over $40 million left on his contract.

Either he's getting a job back or he's getting a ****load of money.

If Chinese-Americans were offended they should've organized boycotts of The View's sponsors until O'Donnel was fired. But they didn't, the sponsors weren't forced to take action, and the producers had no related incentive to fire Rosie.

That's the reason Bill Maher was booted from his old show on NBC and ended up on HBO. He made the "mistake" of calling the military cowards for using bomb strikes versus the 9-11 hijackers method of sucide bombing. So much for a double standard against conservatives.

nappy headed hoes (blacks) = hooked nosed rats (jews)

These racial slurs are both damn good reason to boycott sponsors to force out a radio/television personality off of a news channel.

Exactly -yes, its stupid and unfunny hurts his cause - but it shouldn't take him off the air waves.

I mean there are a lot of racist jokes, rants, etc about whites too - but I don't want to see those shows, comedians, people fired for it.

What Rush are we talking about here? YYZ Rush? If so, they better keep those ****ers on the radio. :o

Talk radio is a great medium - it is a rare venue that allows the public to converse with not only news figures of various importance, but experts and true news makers.

No, that is C-Span. Talk radio is a distraction at best and propaganda at its worst. I have never heard an expert deserving of the name on talk radio. Pundits of all bandwidths and frequencies? Yes. Intelligent discussion of pertinent issues with anything resembling reputable data pertaining to said civilized argument? Never.

C-Span is dull with no personality.

Any sort of commentary can be seen as propaganda. Left wing magazine, right wing magazine, left wing tv channel, right wing tv channel, etc.

There are "experts" that have their own talk radio shows, however what I was referring to mostly was expert guests - which happen quite frequently on major talk radio shows.

You are grossly overgeneralizing talk radio. There are plenty of venues that offer true dialog.

The majority of Talk Radio is at once banal and sensational. Rarely conducive to an educated assessment of the subject at heart, it is an insult to anyone with a modicum of intelligence and dignity.

Certainly, but a commentary that accurately cites its sources and doesn't twist context while at the same time uses logic, data, and a rational approach rather than appealing to emotional responses is in less of a position to be accused of propaganda.

There are "experts" that have their own talk radio shows, however what I was referring to mostly was expert guests - which happen quite frequently on major talk radio shows.

I find the term "expert" to be incredibly misleading. Often on such shows (O'Rielly, Hannity, Fraken, and Limbaugh are ones that I've noticed this trend with) these so called experts are little more than the mouth pieces for an obscure think tank, who, rather than cite data that can be rationally assessed, spout vague positions based on ephemeral claims. Since none of this can actually be assessed in any manner conducive to an intelligent debate, the secret motivations of a position become the ammunition for ad hominen attacks and the actual issue is ignored.

You are grossly overgeneralizing talk radio. There are plenty of venues that offer true dialog.

Outside of NPR, I haven't found any. Well, sometimes I like to listen to Car Talk, but you repeat that to anybody at risk to your own well being.:oldrazz:

See the difference between Rush and people like Imus and JV & Elvis (JV & Elvis were recently suspended for a crank call to a Chinese Restaurant :whatever) is that the latter are more comedic shows. And the people who don't get "it" or don't find it funny are usually the ones looking for a soapbox or an opportunity or something to further their agenda.

:down

The difference is, this is funny and not really meant to hurt.
