The Rush Limbaugh Thread

I don't follow the NBA so who owns what in that league is unimportant to me.

While I do follow the NFL, Limbaugh being minority owner of the Rams wouldn't have made a difference to me. He does have the right to be part of a group intending to buy a team, those in the league have the right to say that they wouldn't vote in favor of it, and the group has the right to drop him.

I'm just pointing out that there is a BIT of a double standard (though again, there was no uproar from anyone I know of about Nelly and Jay-Z being minority owners).

What everyone did was fully within their rights and it's totally understandable that African American players, coaches, and fans would be up in arms about him being an owner. Rush being a conservative has very little to do with it as I'm sure other NFL team owners are conservative and if there was audio of them making racist comments there'd be a fuss over that too.

There's some dispute about whether he actually said 1 and 2... the rest though from what I've read are fairly well documented.

/facepalm

The first quote, there is no proof he said KMOX has said this and so has he. He has no memory of saying it and i kinda believe the guy. I mean is an ass but he knows what to and what not to say.

Congratulations to you both for your stance of trust but verify on the list.

Heaps of derision on those of you who accepted it as gospel on face value, or commented on it without acknowledgement of the questionable veracity of some of its claims.

Personally, I see absolutely no legal reason the man couldn't be part owner of the team. On the other hand, the NFL is a special case monopoly with their own rules about who can and can't buy a team and if I were an owner and I thought it would negatively impact the perception of the league and possibly cost me money if he were part of the ownership I'd not vote approval. And I'm cool with that if that's how it plays out. That's business.

Professionally, I have no sympathy for the players. The man who runs my company is a blowhard whom I believe to be a liar, in no way trustworthy and a rather morally repugnant human being from my limited interaction with him. My choice is to walkif it gripes my constitution to that degree, as is the players option. That's business and that's just the way it is.

That said, if I were leading the management group, I'd dump him in a heart beat if it looked like he was going to cost me the chance at buying a cash machine that is an NFL franchise. That's business and I see nothing wrong with it.

All in all, I don't care. NCAA is where it's at if you ask me so until he tries to by a university in the SEC it's very, very, very meh to me.:cwink:

Anyone who's surprised, needs to get into sports.

None of these sports like the drama. They prefer to stay silent and let the fans still come and give in they're money.

Do not rock the mother****ing boat, is something I would imagine is a way of life for sports leagues constantly seeing the billions roll in every season.

Owning part of a major sports franchise isn't a right, so Limbaugh had no rights here. It's a privilege, and just like how Larry Flint made his fortune is a tasteless and sleazy (but legal) way, so did Limbaugh. The NFL has no interest in alienating potential fans, and to have a figure like Limbaugh amongst their owners would just be a bad business move. He's made a fortune off of hate, but money alone didn't get him everything he wanted, and most importantly to me, it won't keep him out of hell when he dies. And that thought gives me great satisfaction and comfort.

Yeah, the word "right" doesn't seem to fit into the major sports. At all.

It's why someone can get suspended for just critcizing an official, and nothing can be done.

The Checketts group can still proceed with their bid for the St. Louis Rams; they don't need Limbaugh.

ESPN says he's been replaced in the ownership group by Marshall Faulk.

Maybe you should read why he said those comments:

He could have worded it a lot better, but his comments were about the stupid ******* actions that other players within the NFL do. Don't get me wrong it was a poor choice of wording by using the Bloods and Crips and focusing on players who happen to be black like T.O.

But he does have a point there with players like Terrell Owens and Michael Vick sullying the sport with how they act.

Rush is a racist *******, but I don't see him being intentionally racist with that one comment in particular unlike the other 9 quotes posted which were most definitely were and are deserving of a major ass beating.

I don't know I thought after the first one (which apparnetly is under dispute), the MLK one and the bone-in-nose (which did happen), it was the worst.

In context it seems he is defending the incredibly conceited antics of the Patriots and the team's coach from several years ago, because they are "classy" and the other team is not. His argument is "Well, they started it," and thus excuses the worse action of the Patriots.

And then somehow this trails off into comparing it to black gangs? The insinuation is still there.

Nobody said anything about feeling any degree of sympathy for the players and what has been said by players is that they wont play for a team that Limbaugh owns.

ESPN says he's been replaced in the ownership group by Marshall Faulk.

Marshall Faulk?!

Awesome. He's a 100x better than Limbaugh.

And actually played for the Rams, during they're "Greatest Show on Turf" days.

I was just stating my opinion. I wasn't referencing anyone else. The way I see it is if they don't want to play then then they can walk and take a chance on not getting paid. Same as me if I've got a huge objection to my boss.

At least Rush made an attempted bid for the one sports team in St. Louis that nobody cares about.

I heard he is calling the NFL a "Racist Organization" now.

Like I said, this whole thing was just an excuse to get cheap publicity.

Before the league integrated, one would be correct in calling the NFL racist. But the NFL isn't racist just because the group wanting to buy the Rams dropped Limbaugh.

And the rules on Fatties. Oh, let's drop the drug tests too, maybe Dallas can win another Superbowl again.

Rush Limbaugh said:
2. You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed.

Aside from extreme Colbert-esque satire (which Rush isn't particularly renowned for) I just cannot think of a context that makes this okay.
