The Scarab Movie

Hey! I know that there are quite a few big budget movies coming out. I am working with Brett Kelly (My Dead Girlfriend,The Bonesetter, Attack of the Giant Leeches remake etc.). We are doing a small budget movie based on the 1940's superhero The Scarab. We have started a production blog and would like some feedback. Good and Bad as it only helps us out.

Some more news. We will be holding auditions this weekend. Shooting should start as soon as January.

The auditions went very well. We ended up seeing about 40 people all together. As far as casting goes though, we probably won't be making a decision untill at least a few more weeks. I thought I would keep updating this forum site as things happen as people seem to be checking it out. Thanks for the interest and we'll keep you all posted.

We have actually cast a few key roles and are doing one last round of auditions Nov. 30th. The costumes should be arriving within a few weeks so we are very excited for that. Dynamite Comics have started releasing their own take on the Nedor public domain comic line. Black Terror#1 just came out and I recomend having a look. Thanks for reading. I'm very interested in seeing this come to fruitation. Any ideas on the release date yet? What's the main plot gonna be about?

We plan to start shooting at the end of January. More than likely we should at least have the principle photography done by the end of March. What we would idealy like to do is film key scenes and put together a trailer to try to generate funds. Either way the project will finish though. Fingers crossed, but if we were watching the final film a year from now, all would have gone off in a timely fashion. As far as the plot goes. It is our own take on the origin of the Scarab as he is trying to prevent the masked villain, known as the Shinx, from taking over the world. We are going to be using a few characters from the Nedor public domain catalogue as well. Alex Ross just released a comic called the Black Terror using the same source material. So if one is interested, have a look to familiarize or reintroduce yourself to the characters as you will definetely see familiar faces in our film. Our second round of auditions are this Sunday and we should have a full cast by this time next week. Thanks for the interest. I will keep updating this as things happen.

We have cast the male lead. Mark Courneyea will be playing the Peter Ward/Scarb role. We are very excited and feel that he's perfect. So congrats to him. You can see other things he has done on IMDB.com. More news coming in quickly and I will keep posting.

This sounds very interesting! So the Black Terror will appear in the movie!!?? Will there be other heroes in it as well? Hope to hear more soon as I love these public domain characters and am a huge fan of Project Superpowers.

Yup. We will have the Black Terror in our film. We've been reading the Project Superpowers comics as well.(Which are great!) That way we don't step on anyones toes and keep it in the public domain. We are big fans of the Nedor Comic line and we feel that our modern take on them will do them justice. Feel free to check out our blog as well. what kind of release is this flick going to get? is it independent or feature?

It will definetly be feature as far as the length will go. About an hour and a half. Most likely it will have a DVD release though. I will update the board regularly and will make sure that when it is released, you will know where to find it. Thanks for the interest.

Hey! To all of those checking in! The costumes have started to arrive and they look great! I think we will be giving the characters thier due. Pre-production will be starting up again in the New Year. Hopefully I will be able to start posting some pictures of characters as well as other tidbits shortly.

Any closer to nailing down a production start on this film? Can't wait to see the costumes. I must admit to being as interested in the Black Terror's look as the Scarab's.

Things are moving along very quickly! Mark Redfield, star of such films as, Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde, and the upcoming western Come Hell or High Water, will be playing the role of General Bruce Carter. Those fans of the public domain won't take long to find out who we are hinting at either. It looks like we are still on track for an early February start to the shoot itself. We are waiting for the final details on the Scarab costume to finish. The shooting schedule will take place throughout the next few months, hopefully finishing close to the end of spring. As soon as we start filming, I will let you know and post as much as humanly possible. Thanks again for the comments. We shall see you on the forums
