Horror The Scream Franchise Thread

I'm disappointed they didn't just simply title it Scream again and leave it there. I mean if two films with the exact same title in the exact same continuity wasn't confusing enough, why not do it again? They could make Scream into the Weezer of horror films.
Or they could do it the Halloween style.

Scream
Scream Kills
Scream Ends

On average, the fans are the last people I want to see taking the reins of a movie franchise. :funny: Or next to last, anyways.

We've gotten to the point where we're now seeing professionally made fan films. The only difference between those people who made those embarrassing Star Wars films film in their back yard woods and these movies is they just have more money. At the end of the day, it seems to be about their fandoms than anything original to say.

Maybe I’m giving them too much credit, but I thought that was the very thing they were commenting on. The killer’s motives were superficial, and they didn’t understand what they were emulating. That was kind of the point, I thought.

I don't think it was the point, but even if it was, excluding the killer's motivation, with the past movies, the meta commentary on current pop culture and horror movies isn't what you base your story around. That is just a hat you hang on a classical structure. If you take out all of the meta commentary to the original movie, it would still play perfectly as a regular whodunit. You can't do that with this movie. It's a movie doing a bad imitation of a Scream movie.

I just think it comes down to these writers and filmmakers don't understand how to write a mystery. They think Scream is just a meta movie thing in a vacuum without deconstructing it. They haven't done their homework. Instead they love Scream, whatever that means, and they seem to be just reading Twitter. It's not very inspired.

Personally I agree, that's how I took it too. I realize that in some ways it made for a less satisfying experience because we were denied the satisfaction of a more classical whodunnit resolution, I think that was part of the swing the film made in commenting on this post-modern era we're currently trapped in. And I still think this can be recontexualized further depending on what they do with the upcoming sequels.

I'm not ready to make the sweeping generalization of "they don't understand the franchise" after only seeing one movie from this team, which still got an awful lot right about Scream IMO and was just a fun slasher movie with some great moments. Let's see what this new one has to offer.

Funny, knowing what happens to the real masks with aging. They just turn a funny shade of yellow... oh and the fabric stitches start unraveling.

My og mask from 1997 has barely changed due to being in decent storage areas with little to no light.

Wonder where my ghostface costume from the late 90's went. I went out as him at like 6 years old haha.

‘Scream 6’: Melissa Barrera Says Sequel Is “Going All Out” on Gore [Exclusive]

There was a saying on set because (directors) Matt [Bettinelli-Olpin] and Tyler [Gillett] were always asking for more blood and more sweat. They always just wanted more. "More blood spritz" was the saying because they would just always want more. With the last Scream, they were tip-toeing and trying to be very respectful of what the franchise had been, up until that point, and keeping their inner gory dreams at bay. But with this one, they were like, "We're going all out." It's potentially a hundred times gorier.”

...still mad we never got the bloody mask SCRE4M intro.

Same I thought her character was wayyyy better than her older sister.
agreed! I was so sympathetic towards her, and it was those moments when I was most pulled in. Like the hospital scene for example.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they re-edit or re-shoot to give her more screen time now that Wednesday has cemented her status

In any case, she must have more to do in this one, without being in a hospital for the entire runtime.

I liked both Sam and Tara and thought they had an interesting dynamic that was unique to the franchise. Interested to see how they follow up on that in this one.

Pumped for the teaser, although I feel like it’s time for a more substantial trailer.
